Chapter 33 Grier watched as Nick lined up with twenty-nine other contestants. The first round was to cut through a small log using a handsaw. The first fifteen contestants to finish would move to the next round. Then the fifteen would use their axe to chop through a bigger chunk of wood. The top five would move to the final round. The final round was chopping down a Christmas tree. The first one to put the tree down was the champion. The prize was five hundred dollars in gift certificates from local businesses and a name on a trophy which was held in the town offices. She blew him a kiss and he pretended to catch it and hold it against his heart which earned giggles from the women and girls near her. “Did you see Kash’s face?” Candy giggled. “Why does his misery give me such pleasure?”
