Cash jolted awake, sweating. He had been dreaming about the bashing outside his house the night before. Would Eyden’s friend come back for a second go? Cash doubted it. He had run off at the first sign of trouble when the car had shone headlights on them. He took off his clothes, grabbed a towel that was hanging off the open door of his built-in wardrobe. It was still slightly damp, but he hadn’t done any washing. He hung it on a rail in the bathroom. Turned the hot water on, waited, got underneath, adjusted with the cold till it was perfect, turned the hot up some more. Stood underneath the hard flow of water, sighed, started smiling.
