Hassan knocked on the front door of Abbott’s huge Paddington terrace. Waited. The door slowly opened wide. Abbott stood there, dressed in a black suit, white shirt, red tie tight against his Adam’s apple. Small grey beard trimmed to perfection. His biceps pressing against the fabric of the suit. A small man who stood taut and erect like he was a bigger man.
Hassan said, ‘Mr Abbott.’
‘Billy, come in.’ Abbot stood aside.
‘Follow me,’ he said once the door was closed and lead Hassan to the library.
Abbott was the head of New Light Church, one of the biggest political donors to the Conservative Government. Racked by scandals a couple of years ago—caused by Carter Thompson when he was a cop with the Prosecutors office—it had recovered quicky and easily and grew in number by the day.
