ANNA’S POV: WHY DID HE KISS ME THAT WAY
Eva walked briskly into my room carrying a box of silver accessories.
“The Alpha sent me,” she said softly. “He wants me to help you dress for the pack party tonight.”
I blinked at her in confusion. “Party? I didn’t even know there was one.”
Eva smiled, a little nervously. “It’s the Blue Moon celebration, Luna. Every ranked wolf attends.”
That word, Luna, made my stomach twist. I wasn’t his Luna. Not really. Just a debt payment wrapped in a wedding dress.
Still, I didn’t argue. Disobeying Alpha Dominic wasn’t exactly an option.
When Eva was done, I could hardly recognize myself. My hair fell in soft curls, and the silver gown shimmered every time I moved. For the first time, I actually looked... beautiful.
When I stepped into the ballroom, all eyes turned toward me. Music, laughter, and chatter filled the air, but I could feel their stares, some admiring, some jealous, others curious about the “Alpha’s new wife.”
A tall man with gray eyes approached me, smiling warmly. “You must be new here,” he said. “I’ve never seen anyone as stunning as you.”
I smiled awkwardly, unsure how to respond. “Thank you, I…”
“Stay. Away. From. My. Wife.”
Dominic’s voice thundered through the hall. Everything went silent. The man froze instantly, raising both hands.
“I didn’t know, Alpha Dominic. Forgive me,” he said quickly and backed away.
Before I could say anything, Dominic shrugged off his jacket and placed it over my shoulders. His scent, woods, smoke, and something darker, wrapped around me.
“I’m not cold,” I said, trying to hand it back.
His jaw tightened. “Seems you liked that man’s attention a little too much.”
“That’s not fair…”
I didn’t get to finish. He scooped me into his arms as if I weighed nothing and stormed out of the hall. Gasps followed us, but he didn’t care.
“Put me down, Dominic!” I hissed, pounding lightly on his chest, but his muscles only tensed under my touch.
Moments later, we were in his room. He kicked the door shut behind us and dropped me on his bed.
“Are you out of your mind?” I snapped, sitting up.
His breathing was harsh, eyes glowing faintly gold. The full moon spilled silver light through the window, bathing him in its glow.
He leaned down, his hand brushing my cheek. “You drive me insane, Anna,” he whispered, his voice low and rough. “You really do.”
My heart pounded wildly. “You can’t just…”
But before I could move, his lips crashed into mine. It wasn’t gentle, it was hungry, desperate, full of something I couldn’t name. My body trembled as his warmth pressed against me, his wolf brushing against my soul.
And then, something flashed.
A golden shimmer surrounded us for a split second, glowing between our bodies. I gasped, pulling back slightly. Dominic froze too, his eyes widening.
“What was that?” he asked, his voice barely a whisper.
I blinked, confused. “What was what?”
He searched my face, almost as if trying to read my soul. The glow vanished, leaving the room dim again.
His expression changed, confusion. Before either of us could speak, a knock rattled the door.
“Alpha!” his Beta Harry, called. “The Elders are waiting for you downstairs, it’s urgent.”
Dominic stood up, his breathing still uneven. “Stay here,” he ordered.
He turned and walked out, the door slamming shut behind him.
I sat there, trembling, touching my lips where his kiss still burned. My wolf stirred restlessly inside me, trying to calm my racing heart…Thud.
I froze.
The sound came again, soft but distinct. It wasn’t from outside. It came from somewhere down the hallway.
Curiosity tugged at me. Dominic had told me to stay put, but something about that sound made my wolf restless. Slowly, I opened the door and peeked out. The hallway was dim, shadows stretching along the walls.
Then I heard it again, a low groan, almost like someone in pain.
It came from the room just a few steps away. The one next to Dominic’s.
I walked closer, my bare feet barely making a sound. My hand hovered over the doorknob when a deep voice thundered behind me.
“Don’t ever open that door.”
I gasped and spun around. Dominic was standing there, his expression dark and unreadable, eyes glowing faintly gold.
His voice was low but sharp. “Don’t ever go inside that room, Anna. Do you understand?”
I swallowed hard. “W–what’s in there?”
“Something that doesn’t concern you.”
He grabbed my wrist, pulling me back toward his room. “You better stay out of trouble. Stop wandering around.”
I yanked my hand free. “You can’t keep me locked up like a prisoner. Are you really going to keep me here forever?”
He looked at me for a long moment, and then he turned and stormed off without a word.
I sank onto the bed, feeling a mix of anger and fear twist inside me. What was in that room that made him so furious?
A knock broke my thoughts. Eva stepped inside, bowing slightly. “Luna, Alpha Dominic asked me to bring you to the garden. He said you could use some fresh air.”
I frowned. “The garden?”
“Yes, Luna.”
That didn’t make sense. He’d just told me not to leave the room. Why would he suddenly send for me now?
I followed.
When I stepped into the garden, everything was strangely quiet. The moonlight dripped over the stone path, and the soft rustle of leaves was the only sound.
“Dominic?” I called softly. No answer.
Something felt wrong. The air was thick, heavy. My wolf stirred uneasily.
Then, movement. Four shadows emerged from the trees.
Before I could even react, one of them lunged at me. I screamed as claws slashed across my arm. Pain burned through my skin.
“Stay still, thief,” one of the rogues hissed. “You took what doesn’t belong to you.”
“I don’t even know who you are!” I shouted, struggling as another pinned me down.
I thought it was over, until a roar ripped through the night.
Dominic.
He came out of nowhere, his eyes glowing like molten gold. The rogues froze instantly, dropping to their knees before him.
“Alpha,” one of them whimpered. “We didn’t know…”
“Shut up!” Dominic’s voice shook the air. He shifted halfway, claws extending, and struck the nearest rogue so hard he flew into a tree.
“Touch her again,” Dominic growled, “and I’ll rip you apart.”
The rogues scrambled away, disappearing into the forest.
Dominic turned toward me, breathing heavily. His gaze softened for a second before anger replaced it.
“I told you not to come out,” he said harshly, kneeling beside me. “You just can’t listen, can you? Look what you’ve done to yourself, stubborn she-wolf.”
I winced, clutching my bleeding arm. “You’re blaming me for this? You’re the one who sent Eva to call me out here!”
His brow furrowed. “What are you talking about?”
“Don’t pretend you don’t know!” I snapped. “She said you sent for me!”
He looked genuinely confused. “I didn’t send anyone.”
I froze. Then who did?
Before I could think, my knees gave out. Dominic caught me just in time, lifting me into his arms.
“Put me down,” I muttered weakly. “I can walk.”
“Stop being stubborn,” he growled, carrying me back to the mansion.
He laid me on the couch in his room, fetched a first-aid kit, and began cleaning the wound. His touch was surprisingly gentle, his brows furrowed in concern.
“Don’t worry about it,” I said, trying to pull away. “I’ll handle it myself.”
He caught my wrist, his grip firm. “Let me help you, Anna. Please.”
I stared at him, surprised by the softness in his tone. But before I could say anything, something made me freeze.
The door creaked.
I looked up sharply. Someone had been standing there, watching.
By the time I turned fully, they were gone.
A folded piece of paper lay on the floor near the doorway.
I bent to pick it up, but Dominic reached it first. His eyes darkened as he opened it. Whatever was written inside made his jaw tighten.
His gaze snapped to me, cold and unreadable.
“Who gave you this?” he asked, voice low and dangerous.
I stared at him, confused and trembling. My heart was pounding. “I don’t know. What does it say?”
