Once I arrive through the portal, the swirling light fades and disappears and I’m greeted with the eyes of everyone. Anya gives me a knowing look, like she knows about the messenger of doom.
“Welcome to the Northern Mountains Pack, may name is Jonah and I’m your escort to your accommodation. The Alpha and Beta have been notified of your arrival and have requested that once you’re all settled in that the witch, the prince and the leader of the humans meet with them to discuss how the treaty signing with proceed tomorrow.” Jonah said with a slight bow as he addressed us. He and the four other men with him motioned for us to follow them.
The pack hadn’t changed much, the outer ring of the pack territory was still farm land, small houses few and far apart for the humans that tended to the land. As we walked closer to where we would be staying, the housing became closer together. The housing closer into the main pack area were wooden weather board houses painted all different colours with an array of colourful flowers in window pots. The grass was lush and green. There were stores and restaurants scattered up the main street leading to the pack house. I remembered coming here with Gareth and Leo to a small candy store that was owned by a lovely old couple that had been running it for years. I didn’t realise just how much I would miss being here.
We kept walking and after a long silent walk we reach the pack house, its large five story structure stood high above everything else. Jonah opened the door to the main entry and we all file in. He leads us to a large set of doors that open automatically. An elevator compartment is on the other side of the doors.
“we will have to make two trips. We wont all fit.” Jonah says to us.
Before I can say that my team and I will wait Nicolas says to Jonah, “my guards are more than capable to take the stairs up to their rooms.” With that Jonah nods and tells the other guards to escort the vampires up to their rooms. Anya, Nicolas and Hunter enter the elevator first standing against the back wall. Alice, Max and I walk in next and I stand in front of Nicolas. Jonah and Riley are the last to get in and the biggest of us all, I have to take a step back for them to be able to fit in and allow the doors to shut. My back presses to Nicolas’ front and I can feel every muscle in his torso flex against me. The doors shut and the elevator starts moving us but I don’t really notice because all I can think about is how close I am to Nicolas. In no time the doors to the elevator ding and open. The other warriors and the guards were standing at the elevator doors waiting for us.
Riley and Jonah step out and the rest of us follow. We walked down a long hallway, Alice was walking next to me. She nudged my arm and nodded her head in the direction of Jonah, and wiggled her brows with a smirk. I just shook my head at her.
Yes Jonah was a good looking man but he wasn’t my type. His muscles were too big and his long light brown hair was pulled up in a man bun. He had that pretty boy vibe that screamed I’m hot and I know it.
We eventually reached a door and Jonah opened it, “ this room is for two humans, we had to split you up to be able to accommodate all of you.” I gesture for Riley and Max to take the room.
“Max, Riley get settled. We will meet you for dinner.” I tell them and they enter the room. Jonah closes the door and starts walking down the hall again. After a short walk to the next door, he does the same thing and opens the door. “ this room is for the two female humans.” I go to walk in with Alice but my arm is grabbed and I’m pulled back into a hard chest.
“The captain will be staying with me.” Nicolas says with a stern voice. Alice is looking between Anya, Nicolas and I like we have all grown an extra head.
“I’m sorry your highness but the Alpha was very specific about who was to have what room.” Jonah replies looking at Nicolas with an annoyed glare.
“Well then, I guess I will have to speak with him about the sleeping arrangements.” Is all he says. This is so awkward. I grew up around Jonah and he was always an aggressive and arrogant boy, he would make fun of the fact I wasn’t a wolf and couldn’t run through the forest with them in their wolf forms. I’m glad that he hasn’t realised who I am just yet. Alice enters the room and as I go to enter I’m pulled in the opposite direction. Nicolas has his hand on the small of my back leading me along with everyone. We stop at a few more room and eventually there is just Anya, Hunter, Nicolas and I following Jonah to the next room. He opens it and tells us that it is for Anya, she nods and winks at him with a mischievous grin on her face as she walks past him. I see the slight tint of a blush on his cheeks before he puts his stoic mask back on and leads Hunter, Nicolas and I to the last door. He opens the door and gestures for us to enter. Hunter enters first and Nicolas motions for me to follow but Jonah puts his hand out to block me from entering. Nicolas and Hunter growl at him in warning but he just smirks at them.
“Your scent is familiar, even with the stink of vampire all over you, have we met?” He asks with a smirk that makes him look like a sleaze.
“Excuse me?” I ask as I try to move past his hand but he grabs a hold of my hand and tries to pull me in closer to him.
“Well, I wouldn’t mind getting familiar with you, on a more intimate level. I’m sure I would be more fun then the vampire.” He says in a husky voice that probably would have had any other woman weak at the knees but it just made a wave of repulsion and disgust flow through my body. I pull my hand away and take a step back. As much as I would love to put this disgusting excuse of a man on his backside, it wouldn’t go over well to start this meeting off by getting in a fight with one of the warriors. So instead I stand tall and say, “ I’m not interested in any form of getting familiar with you, I’m also not interested in being another notch in your belt. I don’t know what sexually transmitted diseases you could be carrying and I don’t want to find out. So, if you don’t move out of my way I will have to make you.”
It’s enough to make Hunter snicker and Nicolas to have a proud smirk on his face as he places his hand on my back and steps forward towards Jonah with the threat of death in his eyes.
“You heard the lady, keep your dirty hands off what isn’t yours.” With that Nicolas and I enter the room and watch as a pissed off Jonah storms off. The door gets shut and Hunter starts laughing even harder.
“Wow, you’re going to make a great queen one day.” He says as he smiles widely at me. Hunter seems to have relaxed around me more over the past few days. He has been a really good person to talk to about what I should expect when we get back to the clan and it’s announced that I’m Nicolas’ mate.
“Yes, that she will.” Nicolas says as he pulls me into a hug and sticks his nose in my neck to take a deep breath of my scent. I knew that he was probably very angry with Jonah and fighting the urge to go and rip his heart out and feed it to him for touching me but I could handle a sleaze like Jonah.
I looking around the room as Hunter goes to get his things settled in the room that was designated for him across the large. I take in the large living area, a L-shaped lounge Is positioned in front of a large stone fireplace with fur rugs laying on the floor. A large floor to ceiling window across the living area gave the more gorgeous view of the pack lands.
I move to the two doors, one on either side of the fireplace. The one closest to the bedroom door contained and empty wardrobe. The other on the far side of the fireplace held a spacious bathroom, a large cobblestone shower with a frosted glass shower screen was positioned on the right of the door with a large dumper shower head hanging from the ceiling. A large timber vanity was situated on the left wall with a large mirror the basins were large carved out stones that matched the large carved stone bathtub at the end of the room. It was large enough to fit at least four people. The bathroom had a relaxing feel to it that made me just want to soak in the bathtub for days. I leave the bathroom and walk across to the room that Nicolas would be sleeping in and open the door.
More fur rugs line the floor just like in the living area. A large king sized bed sits to the left of the door facing a large floor to ceiling window. Two forest green chairs sit in from of the window so that one could just sit and watch the world go by in peace. I turn back to the bed, it was made of rustic timber that looked like it had been freshly cut from a tree. The linens matched the two sitting chairs by the window, a large fur blanket was thrown over the end of the bed.
I leave the bedroom and see Nicolas standing looking out the window in the living area. I walk over to him and stand next to him in silence. The view and the quiet was soothing, I felt like I could just stand here in silence for ever. After some time, Nicolas speaks.
“Do you miss it?” He asks.
“Sometimes I miss it here but I wouldn’t change things. I may not have met you if things had been different.” I reply looking up at him with a smile. He smiles back at me and places his arm around my shoulders and places a kiss on my forehead. I’m not sure how long we stand there in each others embrace until a knock at the door gets our attention.
Nicolas turns and gives Hunter a nod to open the door. We step away from each other, instantly the cold settles in from the absence of his touch. I take a breath before i turn my attention to the now open door.
“The Alpha is ready to speak with you.” Jonah says in a gruff voice, he must be upset that I turned him down. But if he actually knew who I was he would have never hit on me, he would have made me feel insignificant and weak.
“We should go, we don’t want to keep the Alpha waiting.” I nod to Nicolas and we exit the room following after Jonah. We briefly stop at Anya’s room and she joins us. We walk to the other end of the fifth floor to where the Alpha’s office was located. I had come up here a few times to find Leo and Gareth when we were younger. We would run through the halls laughing.
Upon arriving at the double doors to the Alpha office, Jonah knocks and waits for a reply. Once we get the standard enter response, he opens the door and walks in with all of us following.
“Alpha, the witches council representative, Anya the Light. Prince Nicolas of the Vampire Kingdom and the Captain of the human team.” Jonah says. I’m still standing slightly behind Anya and Nicolas so the Alpha and Beta haven’t seen me yet.
“Welcome to the Northern Mountains Pack. We are honoured to have you stay with us.” The Alpha says. The person that had just spoken didn’t sound like the Alpha I remember. This voice wasn’t as harsh. It was more friendly but still had that same strength behind it. “Please come take a seat.” He offered. Anya and Nicolas moved to take a seat on the lounges that were positioned on either side of the room between the door and the large timber desk that the Alpha was sitting at. I go to follow Nicolas when a deep almost Animalistic voice speaks “Mate”
Everything starts moving in slow motion as I watch as the Alpha moves from behind his desk to be standing right in front of me but before he can come much closer a talk toned body is standing between us.
“Move aside bloodsucker. I smell my mate.”
“That’s not possible, she is already someone’s mate.” Nicolas hisses back through his fangs. His nails have lengthened to claws. I quickly place my hand on his shoulder to calm him but that only made the Alpha growl in response.
“Nicolas, it’s ok. Once he sees who it is and can smell me properly he will know I’m not his mate.” I try to reassure him.
“I’m not leaving your side, if he does anything to you I will rip his heart out.” Nicolas replies but slowly moves to stand next to me. I’m finally able to get a look at the Alpha for the first time since we entered the room. Golden brown eyes stare at me. I take in the Alpha’s shoulder length brown hair and stubble covered face. I know this person, but he looks nothing like the boy I knew years ago. He is all muscle now, he is no longer the thin boy I grew up with. He takes a step closer to me, I feel Nicolas tense next to me. I give him a reassuring smile.
“Long time no see Oddie.” I say looking back at the Alpha. His glowing golden eyes tell me that I’m not talking to Gareth but to his wolf Odin.
“Pup is home?” He asks.
“Yep I’m back.” I smile. I’m quickly pulled into a tight hug. Odin always treated me like I was his pup even though I was only a could years younger then he was. I can feel him taking deep breaths of my scent only to pull away just as quickly as he had pulled me in for the hug.
“Pup isn’t Odin mate?” He says sounding a little disappointed. “Pup knows mate, pup is close to Odin mate.”
“I don’t know Odin, unless…” I trail off realising that I know who his mate is. If it isn’t me and it is not Anya then Gareth and Odin’s mate has to be Alice. “I think i know who your mate is Odin.”
“Pup help Odin meet mate?” He asks sounding hopeful.
“Yes Odin I will help you meet your make but there is something I need to explain to you and Gareth first. Can you please let Gareth back in control? I promise I will help you ok.” I say.
“Ok, pup must help Odin.” He replies before closing his eyes. When they open again they are back to Gareth’s darker golden brown eyes. He smiles at me looking embarrassed. I imagine he would be.
“Sorry Prince Nicolas, Odin isn’t a fan of vampires and that was made worse by him thinking Luna was his mate. He saw you as a threat.” Gareth says rubbing the back of his neck.
“As long as I don’t have to fight any more unmated male wolves for my mate there wont be any bloodshed.” Nicolas replies giving Jonah daggers with his eyes. I watch as the colour drains from Jonah’s face as the realisation hits of what he had done earlier.
“Oh F**k.” He breaths. He knew he was in deep s**t. It is one thing to hit on a female but it was another to hit on a female that had already found their mate.
“Bet you didn’t think you would ever hit on me hey Jonah.” I give him my best disgusted look.
“YOU DID WHAT?!” Gareth booms. Leo moved to stand in front of Jonah holding him against the wall by his collar. Leo’s claws had extended and his canines had grown longer as well.
“You touched pup?” He growled out. I could tell by the way his voice sounded deeper and more deadly that is wasn’t Leo that was speaking but Samual his wolf.
“I.. I did’t… Kn…know” Jonah stammered out.
“Jonah, you could have caused a war by hitting on the mate of the prince. What were you thinking?!” Gareth yelled. The veins on his neck bulging form rage.
“She isn’t marked. I thought she was far game.” Jonah replied.
“Pup is not far game. Pup is not a wh**e” Samuel growled out.
“You seriously think that that’s an excuse? You could have started a war between us and the vampires! You are going to be punished for this Jonah and Luna is going to pick the punishment.” Gareth says looking at me. What? He wants me to be the one to pick the punishment?
“I’m not comfortable with that Gareth.” I reply
“Luna, your the one his wronged. It is only fitting that you’re the one that picks his punishment.”
“Ok, fine.” I think for a little while as to what punishment I am ok with dishing out. “Jonah, your punishment will be… guard duty on the border for the next two shifts along with twice the training.”
“Are you sure you don’t want to him to have a more severe?” Nicolas asks me. I know he would want blood to spill but I wasn’t going to have Jonah killed or beaten over this.
“And he will be forbidden to come near any of us for the duration of the time we are here.” I add. I didn’t want to risk that Jonah might try to hook up with Alice before i had a chance to introduce Gareth to her.
“Very well, Jonah you have your punishment. Now leave and if I catch you anywhere near our guests I will throw you in the dungeons.” Gareth warns. Leo releases Jonah and he stumbles to the door and leaves as quickly as he can.
“Now, about my mate.” Gareth says sounding excited but there is also a hit or worry in his voice.
“Gareth, your mate is a member of my team. She will be in the same position as I am with being Nicolas’ mate. I’m not convinced that our government will agree to letting her or I go. We will need to come up with a plan to ensure that our leaders don’t send teams after us to kill us.” I know that it is a serious possibility that there will be a hit out on Alice and I once our commanders know who our mates are.
“No one will harm Odin’s mate!” Odin had pushed his way to the front. He was growling and so was Leo at the thought of someone harming their future pack Luna.
“You know, you could always tell the human leaders that if they don’t respect the mate bond between humans and supernaturals that all of the supernatural kingdoms will rally to defeat them. I know that the witches council would be all for protecting the mate bond between all beings. It’s a gift given by the goddess, it is not something to be rejected or taken.” Anya said from her seat on the lounge. It would seem that she was the only one that was able to actually sit down before all the chaos started.
“We would wage war on anyone that tries to take our mates.” Gareth says while Leo nods.
“I will protect you with my life, my little warrior.” Nicolas says placing his hands on either side of my face.
“Let’s discuss these matters more before dinner is ready.” Gareth suggests and we all nod. We go over the risks and the possible outcomes. I already knew that the commanders wouldn’t be happy but they would need to agree with the terms of letting humans make the choice to be with their mates themselves instead of making it for us.
We talked for just a little over an hour about the mate situation and the treaty signing tomorrow. Anya had told Nicolas and Gareth that she would include in the treaty that if a werewolf and vampire were mates that both kingdoms would have to allow the union. I agreed for Nicolas making Anya, Leo and Gareth laugh at how eager I was. Nicolas gave me a proud smile and said that he was happy to agree to those terms. I told Gareth that after dinner he would need to request Alice and I to meet him in his Office along with Nicolas and Anya. That would wouldn’t be able to say anything to her during dinner because there were other things going on that could be a problem. He wasn’t happy about it but he understood.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
We had made our way down for dinner and had eaten in silence. Dinner went by fairly quickly and smoothly. Gareth would sneak glances at Alice when he thought no one was looking. Towards the end of the meal the pack members had started clearing their plates and leaving, Gareth had done what we discussed and requested Alice, Nicolas, Anya and I in his office. We had just entered his office and closed the door. Things were about to get intense. This could go one of two ways. Alice could be all for being the mate to an Alpha or… she would reject him without getting to know him but either way, something was about to go down. Please let everything go smoothly. Please let this not end in tragedy.
