THE FIFTRENT

Chapter 3

The fox chambers were painted turquoise , fountains made from sapphire in every corner .

An elegant lady , the fox high consort sat in a bright blue gown , maids sorrounded her combing the hair on her extra ordinary long tail that she liked to show off even when she was in human form .

“Who is the next ruler of this kingdom .” She called out .

“I am .” Anan the fox prince answered as he swayed his way to his mother .

She stood up and held the shoulders of her son , she looked at him carefully, an elegant young man standing in-front of her , his long pure black hair and his golden eyes brought out his beauty , his blue robe filled with sapphire stones , fitted perfectly , he squinted his eyes and smirked , his mother knew he was ready to become the next fiftrent.

“All foxes , dragons , phoenixes , demons and even humans will inevitably bow down to you soon .” She said .

Anan smiled and nodded .

“So tell me , have you started to develop the characteristics of all the other clans ?”

“Nope just the fox fur and tail .” Anan replied.

“Then how are you going to become the next fiftrent ?

“If you are to become a phoenix you should always move besides Awary .”

“You should watch how Ima makes his fire breath and molts his skin .” She added .

“Then sneak up on Donga and see how he vanishes into the forests .”

She leaned towards him and in a whisper she said “ You also have to sneak into the human kingdom and watch Edward throw those arrows .”

“With the fox excellency , malevolence of a dragon , malice of a demon , magnificence of a phoenix and craftsmanship of a human , you will be an unstoppable phoenix .” She cried out .

She burst out in laughter followed by every one else around .

“The foxes have it , the foxes have it .” They chanted .

The fox consort hugged her cub , she had beared all the rumors and mockery from everyone around saying that her son can never make it but she was patient , she knew soon all the enemies will be silenced .

She smirked and wagged her tail .

The fiftrent was the name given to the king of the kingdom for he bore all the characteristics of all the clans .

He was to be born as a prince by the reigning king and one of the consorts from the five clans .

The clan that had the fiftrent held much pride during his reign .

The current fiftrent was from the dragon clan but the fox clan had so much hope in their Prince Anan .

The competition this time was just between them and the dragon clan whose prince was still only an infant , the other two clans didnt have a prince to represent them .

“That is some serious level of delusional i must appreciate.” Said the dragon clan head Ima who was eavesdropping the conversation alongside Umbra the fox clan head .

“ You think you can get it twice in a row ?” Umbra asked .

“Nothing is impossible, I will train that boy the moment he takes his first step .”

“It is not trained it comes naturally.” Umbra said .

“And your boy is a teenager already but no other characteristic in sight .”

“Just give it time .”

“oh there is Ene .” Umbra said .

“ I have a training with her , I will take my leave .” Umbra said as he started moving towards Ene.

“A fox will never be king , don’t forget .” Ima yelled .

Ene was the fox princess , she was the youngest princess, her and umbra were very close since she was a baby .

She ran towards him and almost tripped over her robe , Umbra caught her on time .

“You look so happy today , what have you been to ?” Umbra asked .

She sniffed him .

“Oh you were with him , today , what was he doing ?” She asked .

“Just playing our game as the clan heads usually do!”

“Did you tell him that i love him .”

“No he is way older than you , also he should be the one approaching you , have some fox worth .”

“Okay .”

“Now tell me did you give Princess Toga my message .” Umbra asked .

“Yeah she said she will will get back to you .” Ene stammered .

“Tell me the truth .”

“She said she doesn’t want to hear from you ever again .” Ene said .

“Am sorry clan head Umbra , but you and I are in the same boat we both love someone we can never be with .” Ene added .

She moved closer to him , and caressed his fingers .

“Maybe we should create a group for the unloved foxes , gather every night and cry our eyes out to the moon .”

“Don’t ever call yourself unloved again , okay ?”

“But ..clan head Umbra dont yoy see it ?”

“Promise me that you will ever call yourself unloved again .”

“I promise to you clan head Umbra , the beautiful ,young , talented fox princess Ene will never call herself an unloved fox again .” She raised up her right hand and put her left on her chest .

“Perfect , now go tell Princess Toga that this benevolent fox will not stop until he steals her beautiful black heart .”

Ene ran off to tell Toga the demon princess.

Umbra had tried for years to court her but she seemed not to be interested.

“And if she won’t do it the easy way , I might opt for the hard way .” Umbra whispered.
