Chapter 5 Crawling Through Blood

822 Words
She slapped Jessica hard across the face. "Back then, it was your mother who switched me out at the hospital and dumped me in an orphanage. All these years, Mom and Dad treated you like their precious little princess. Even after they found out you weren't theirs by blood, they still kept you. Tell me, how exactly did our family ever wrong you?" Jessica completely lost it. She lunged at Adeline like a madwoman. Adeline was already more than seven months pregnant, and her feet were still cut up from the glass. She lost her balance and got slammed straight to the floor. Jessica's sharp high heels came down again and again, viciously kicking her right in the stomach. Looking down at her with pure contempt, Jessica spat, "Treated me well? If they were so good to me, why did they leave me scraps of shares and give everything else to you? They deserved to die." The pain in her belly was so sharp it made Adeline arch her back. She curled up, trying desperately to protect her baby. "Casper... where are you?" Had he really become so heartless that he didn't even want his own child anymore? Jessica laughed louder. "Oh my dear sister, did you actually think Casper loved you? All those nights after you got pregnant, he was in my bed. You have no idea how crazy he gets when we're both drenched in sweat." So Casper had been sleeping with Jessica long before this? How pathetic. She had been living in her own little fairy tale, completely clueless. A wave of despair and rage as she had never felt before gave Adeline a sudden burst of terrifying strength. She flipped over and pinned Jessica beneath her, slapping her face over and over. Her eyes bloodshot, she roared, "You filthy b***h! You're just as cheap and dirty as your mother. Both of you should've been rotting in hell a long time ago!" Footsteps sounded outside the door. Jessica, who had been fighting back, suddenly clawed at the wound on her own neck and tore it open. Fresh blood poured out. The second Adeline froze in shock, the needle slammed hard into her waist. "Adeline, it's all my fault. I shouldn't have fallen for Casper. I made you angry. Even if you beat me to death, I still have to get you treated. How else could I face Mom and Dad? They treated me like their own daughter." Casper burst through the door and took in the whole scene. He grabbed Adeline with force and yanked her off Jessica. "Adeline, you've gone too far! How could you treat Jessica like this? She only brought you here for your own good!" Thrown off balance by the rough shove, Adeline crashed to the floor again. She lifted her head and said slowly, each word cutting like a knife, "Casper, you are despicable. Are you really that terrified of people finding out what a disgusting pair you are? You think locking me up means I won't divorce you? Keep dreaming." Seeing the absolute determination in Adeline's eyes, Casper felt a strange pang in his chest and reached out to help her up. "Adeline, I never wanted to divorce you." But Jessica threw herself into his arms first. Both sides of her face were badly swollen, and blood was still gushing from the wound on her neck. "Casper, it hurts so much. Adeline accidentally hit my wound just now." The tenderness on Casper's face vanished instantly. He looked at Adeline with eyes as cold as ice, then scooped Jessica up. "Get her the best doctors. She can only come home once she's fully recovered." Adeline lay sprawled on the floor, cold sweat pouring down her forehead. Then she felt a sudden rush of warmth between her legs. She looked down. Her thighs were already soaked in bright red blood. Panic hit her hard. Her voice trembled as she cried out, "Casper... save our baby..." But Casper only had eyes for Jessica's injuries. He didn't hear a single word of her plea. The pain in her abdomen felt like her insides were being torn apart. Thanks to the strong labor-inducing shot, Adeline didn't have an ounce of strength left to even stand. She could only watch helplessly as Casper carried Jessica away without looking back even once. The door slammed shut with a heavy bang once again. The room fell deathly silent—so quiet that Adeline could only hear her own heartbeat getting faster and faster. Using every last bit of strength she had, she began crawling slowly toward the door. Those few short yards felt like they took half an hour. Behind her, she left a long, horrifying trail of blood. With her weakening hand, she kept slapping the iron door, her fingernails cracking and breaking. "Somebody help! Please... save my baby..." Not long after, the pain became too much. She passed out.
