One hundred yards or so beyond The Central Market a gazebo cantilevered over the marsh. The wetlands enveloped much of the western side of Rockhead Island, and from the structure, a serpentine boardwalk slithered another hundred feet or so into the bog. Inside the gazebo there were benches and signage describing various wildlife that might be observed from the spot. A separate sign warned about alligators, and instructed island folk to keep their dogs on a leash. One hundred yards or so Larry Smith was sharing the structure with Roy McIntosh from Ann Arbor, Michigan. Larry knew this because Roy had made the introduction just moments after Larry had walked in.
