Esnie's POV
I stood at Life's door;
But she sent me away.
Death wanted me more;
But I said, 'not today'.
Alpha Kaiah told me that Selene had deceived me into handing her my powers, only for her to trap me in the moon lake. He promised to get me out, and yes, I believed him. I had no other choice.
I don't remember anything else that happened after that—up until I woke up in the pack clinic. A few minutes after I opened my eyes, Jerry, the pack doctor, walked in and examined me. He looked perplexed, to say the least. He asked me how I was feeling, and I replied: "Alive". He laughed and excused himself to make a call.
I was trying to sleep when Fiona walked in with Gerald behind her. They had concerned looks on their faces as they watched me.
Fiona caressed my forehead. "Honey, how are you feeling?"
"Fine". I said hoarsely.
"You need water, dear?" She poured some water into a cup on the small table near the bed, and offered me some. I raised my head and sipped from the straw in the cup. When I was contented, I signaled to her, and she placed the cup back on the table.
She then helped me sit up and rest my back against the pillows. "We were so worried about you, honey. I know it's my fault that you ran off to the lake. I'm sorry for all I said.”
"It's not your fault, Fiona. You said what you believed. No one should be stoned for that. I overreacted". I said all this just to maintain peace.
"How are you doing, Kiddo?" Asked Gerald, who patted my head. In my opinion, his demeanor seemed like the most genuine of the two of them.
"I'm good, Sir.” I forced out a smile.
"I'll be getting back to some matters. We'll talk later". He walked out, leaving Fiona and me.
She grinned, which made me uncomfortable. There was suddenly something about her that didn't seem right. I don't know if I had never noticed it before, or if it was only recently.
She said in a mocking tone. "This isn't the first time you have risen from the dead, Esnie, you must be immortal". She chuckled at the end of her sentence. I didn't share her humor, so I kept a straight face. She noticed this and stopped laughing. "Uhm, I thought to make a joke of the situation". She cleared her throat awkwardly. "Uhm, so tell me, what happened in the woods".
"My memory is foggy, I'm sorry, Fiona". I held my forehead to make it more believable.
I did not want to tell her that Jace had died or that he had been brought back to life. Or about the bizarre thing my body did right before I got revenge against the werewolf that killed him. I just didn't trust her enough to share that information.
"Oh, I'm sorry, darling. Try and rest". She said, seemingly disappointed.
"Thank you". I lay down but kept my eyes open.
She eyed me before asking. "So, I know your memory is foggy, but do you remember how he died?"
I creased my forehead. "How who died?".
"The werewolf that attacked you and Jace?". She elucidated her question. I assumed that Jace had told them what happened.
My mouth opened and closed like a fish. "I don't know".
A small frown appeared across her face, but just immediately, a smile took over. "Okay, darling". She kissed my forehead and left.
She stopped at the door and looked back at me, when she caught me staring at her, she smiled and walked out.
What's with this woman?

"Heyyo!" Came a cheerful voice from the door.
I opened my eyes. "Rowena!".
She came in with six other omegas. In their hands were get-well-soon cards and flowers. "We heard you're awake and thought to come and see you". They said in unison.
"Aww, thanks guys". I sat up and collected the numerous cards and flowers.
Just then, Teri, another omega rushed in. "Guys! The Alpha is back!" My heart leaped for joy. Rowena and the other omegas teased me and I began to blush. But Teri didn't stop there. "Listen, guys, he's not alone."
"Who's with him?". I asked, hoping it was not another woman, and by another woman, I mean Reina.
"He's with Alpha Kaiah!". She said with pure terror in her eyes.
I got down from bed with Rowena's help. They helped me pull out the IV and other stuff attached to my body, including the wire from the EKG. And with their support, I walked out of the clinic to the outside where I sighted Jace's car. I was excited to see him, but why is Alpha Kaiah with him?
They both stepped out of the car. Their eyes connected with mine immediately. Alpha Kaiah seemed more excited to see me, he walked up to me with a huge smile on his face. But before he could get to me, Jace blocked his way. "She's my mate, remember?" He said sternly to Alpha Kaiah. They spent a few seconds glaring daggers at each other before Jace turned to me and hugged me. For some reason, I felt repelled by his touch. I couldn't explain it but just his skin touching me sickened me. I pulled away from his embrace.
Something isn't right.
"Are you okay, baby?" He asked with a look of concern on his face.
I faked a smile. "Hmm, yes. Why is he here?" I asked, pointing at Alpha Kaiah.
Jace snaked his arm around my waist and smirked at Alpha Kaiah. “He's only here for a short time, don't let him bother you. Let's go in, baby". He pulled me with him towards the pack mansion. As we walked in, I looked back at Alpha Kaiah, there was a look of sadness in his eyes and he watched me leave with Jace.

I was surprised that Jace didn't stop once to address the pack members who were waiting for him patiently. He took me to our bedroom. Once we were in, he locked the door while I went to sit on the bed.
“Jace" I called.
"Yeah?" He answered as he pulled off his shirt, revealing his biceps.
"Why did you bring Alpha Kaiah?"
His eyes flickered to purple for a quick second. "He's just here for an important business. Don't you worry, I'll kill him before you know it". He stood close to me... "You know what, baby? Let's forget about everything else". He cupped my face in his palms. "I missed you". He kissed my lips.
There was something off about him, he was never this pushy, and he usually took his time. "Jace, I'm really tired". I tried pushing him away gently.
He didn't budge. "I promised you I'd mark you when I get back, do you remember?"
"Yes, but-."
"But nothing, baby". He kissed my neck, gently, and his lips went lower.
I felt nothing when he touched me, absolutely nothing. "Jace, please stop it. I have something really important to tell you. I don't have my powers anymore"
He looked up at me. "Is that so? We'll get it back, don't you worry. Anything else, baby?"
"Uhm, I'm just really tired -"
He rolled his eyes. "It's not fair what you're doing to me, Esnie! I have been longing for you, and now that you're here, I just can't keep my hands off you. Please, baby". He kissed my lips.
I had to give in. I kissed him back even though I didn't feel a single spark. Why?
Just as he was about to undress me, I realized I couldn't pretend. "Jace, please I can't do this, Jace! Please get off!!" I resisted, but he continued to force kisses against my will. I felt pinned down, trapped, like with Mr Meyers...
Suddenly, the door was busted open and Alpha Kaiah rushed in. "You piece of s**t! She said to get off!!" He dragged Jace off of me, threw him on the floor, and landed a punch on his face. "Keep your filthy hands off my mate, you bastard!"
What did he just call me?
