24. Find Hades

ESNIE’S POV We returned to the pack house. Ross drove while I stayed in the backseat with Jace. He was in so much pain it broke my heart to watch him. All I could do was try to soothe his pain, not that it did much good—kissing his forehead and stroking his hair. My hatred and disgust for Alpha Kaiah had grown to its extreme; first, he blackmailed Medina into helping him switch bodies with Jace, and then he killed her to stop her from reversing the spell. -- I did not go through everything I went through, just to watch Jace die a second time. I fought against Selene, even lost my powers to her—just so that Jace would return to me alive... Alpha Kaiah knew all this, yet, he doesn’t care. I was foolish to think he would help me without collecting something in return, I was a fool for putting even an ounce of trust in him. He was like the devil, you could never trust him to not be up to no good. When we arrived, Ross carried Jace to the clinic—of course, in everyone’s eyes, it was Alpha Kaiah he was carrying, but we didn’t bother to explain. Dr Jerry put him on a hospital bed and attached an EKG machine to him, as well as other devices. Alpha Kaiah arrived soon after, and with my permission, Ross and the doctor left the room, leaving us to talk among ourselves. I was still trying to wrap my head around the whole situation about these two exchanging bodies, but it made total sense. Alpha Kaiah stood in front of us, a smug look on his face. Even though he was in Jace’s body, his demeanor remained the same. Jace’s finger brushed against mine as he lay beside me. He was in so much pain, I could see it. He barely kept his eyes open as the agony consumed him. But more than anything, I could sense the hunger coming from both men. Each of their wolves groaned, yearning for me. I felt like a piece of meat in between two hungry wolves. I swallowed the knot in my throat. “W-Why don't you just tell me what's going on?” Kaiah replied. “As I said before... I have no intention of returning to my old body, I don’t know what else you want to know.” I took a deep breath to calm my emotions. “Is there no other way?” He seemed to think about my question for a moment. “There is one other way, and it involves...you.” “Me? What is it?” “Your connection to Selene.” He walked up and down the room. “Seers were known to have a close relationship with Selene. If you can convince her to heal my body, then, I will agree to return to it.” “You know Selene stole my powers. We are not on the best of terms.” “Call her and she will answer. Even if you’re both not on good terms, I’ll bet you’re still one of her favorites, unlike the rest of us.” I was hesitant; Selene didn’t seem very nice the last time, I would not want to put myself at her mercy. He came to stand in front of me... “Might I add that in a few hours, he will start coughing blood.” I looked at my Jace who was looking frail and pale. If the body dies, his spirit will have no vessel to inhabit and he will either be stuck here on earth in spirit form, or he will have to be sent to the underworld. I took in a deep breath and exhaled slowly... “Very well then, I will go in search of Selene even if we hate each other’s guts.” *** The half-moon was up in the center of the sky as I went into the woods around midnight. I arrived at the moon lake and was welcomed by its glistening surface. The air around the lake was warm and relaxing. I stood facing the still waters, appreciating its beauty. If what Jace said is true, then it is here that Selene will hear me. “Selene!” I called out loud, my voice echoing across. “Selene! Can you hear me!” “Selene!!!” I fell to my knees. “Jace is dying! And I know you don’t approve of my love for him, but remember, you gave me to him as his fated mate. You have to help us!!!” Just then, shadows arose in the sky, and began to spread across the moon like a cloud of black smoke. I watched as it covered the entire moon. A few seconds later, the moon disappeared completely from the sky. This caused total darkness everywhere around me; even the lake stopped glistening. I sighed, feeling the weight of her rejection... “If this is your answer, then so be it.” Someone turned on a flashlight behind me, startling me: “Doesn’t seem like she wanted to talk to you. Quite a cold shoulder she gave you there if you ask me.” “Shut up Kaiah!” I turned around and started heading back to the house. My hatred for Selene just grew by a thousand folds. Talk about a b***h with a little bit of power. I marched to the pack house and made my way to Jace, not caring if Kaiah was right behind me. I returned to Jace in his hospital room. The nurses scowled when they saw me. They must be thinking that I am now with Alpha Kaiah. If only they knew. The last time I spoke to Rowena, she told me about the gossip flying around: gossip that I was now in a relationship with Kaiah. Some even went as far as saying I was polyamorous. I pushed all that aside and focused on my mate lying helplessly on the bed. Dr. Jerry had confirmed earlier that medically, there was nothing he could do but ‘ease his passing.’ My vision became blurred with tears, there had to be something else I could do to save him from this fate. I can’t just watch him die in another man’s body, I can’t. An idea popped up in my mind, could be good or bad, I was desperate. I got up and kissed his forehead. “I’ll be back, baby.” I walked out of the room. *** I knocked on the door three times. And not more than a second later, Kaiah opened the door shirtless. “You wanna try Selene one more time?” He mocked. “No,” I answered. “But I want to have a good time.” He raised an eyebrow. “You’re serious?” “Yes, I am.” I sauntered in while he watched me with lust in his eyes. I took off my jacket and threw it on the chair. He walked over to his desk. “What would you like to have, whiskey? wine?” “You,” I stated without breaking eye contact. He beamed. “Okay.” “Take off your pants,” I ordered. He seems taken aback, “You’re messing with me—” “I said take off your pants.” “Okay, okay.” he obliged. On my word, he sat in the chair and I took slow strides over to him. I brought out a rope from my pocket. “What’s that for?” He asked confused. “I like it this way” He laughed as I tied him up. “You act all innocent, but I never knew you were this naughty.” I took out a small bottle from my back pocket and opened it. In one swift move, I poured its content on his neck. He screamed. “Shut your mouth!” I barked. “Now, return Jace’s body to him.” He laughed like a madman. “You’re so naive, Es. I can’t do that even if I wanted to. Medina is dead.” “I will find another witch.” He shook his head. “Only the witch who placed a spell can uplift the spell. Your Jace is stuck in my body whether you like it or not!” I punched his face and he glared at me. “Wait till this wolf’s bane wears off, your stupid b***h! I’ll tear you to shred.” I placed the bottle on the table. “Selene was of no help, what next?” “What do you mean ‘what next?’” “What other way can we uplift the spell?” He cried as his wolf whimpered inside him. The wolf’s bane was taking its full effect on him. “Fine!! Fine!!... There is one other way.” He said through gritted teeth. “I’m listening...” He looked at me through hooded eyes. “Hades.” “What?” “Find Hades!”
