PROLOGUE Amoura’s POV I come from a very religious and pristine family. Both my parents were pastors in church and so I was brought up to be the picture perfect child. You know, finish high-school as a valedictorian, go to college, meet a good Christian boy and start a family with hopefully more kids than my parents had which was just me. I was an only child. Everything seemed to be going as planned. I graduated college with honors, I had a good job in real estate, courtesy of my well-connected father, and last but not least I was engaged to be married to the love of my life. Or at least that’s who I thought he was. Just two days to our wedding, I walked in on my fiancé thrusting his d**k ferociously into my best friend in his office. Yep! The girl who was supposed to be my maid of honor was f*****g the man I was supposed to get married to. That was the first time I ever experienced what heartbreak felt like but the universe really had it out for me cause that was the beginning of the tragic things that started happening to me. I let my parents know that I called off the wedding and they tried to get me to change my mind even though they knew my reason. They had no empathy to offer me, their only child, they were just purely concerned with saving face and maintaining their reputation, and that pretty much sums up the kind of people my parents are. A week after my discovery, I found myself at a nightclub for the first time in my life. I ordered alcohol, which was another first for me, and just let the loud music take me. Soon I was dancing with a stranger, his hands glided slowly till it reached my ass and he grabbed it. I know it was probably the alcohol but it felt right, for the first time in a long time I was genuinely happy and I didn’t want that to end so I leaned in for a kiss and he wasted no time in claiming my lips. Everything seems like a blur now but I remember whispering in his ear “I want you to f**k me. Hard” and seeing his eyes glow unnaturally as he grabbed my hand and pulled me towards a room at the back of the club where he f****d me like he hated me. That was a night of firsts for me cause I also lost my virginity that night. I didn’t regret it, infact I was happy I lost it to that stranger and not Carl, my stupid, cheating ex who I was keeping myself for. I woke up before he did and I struggled to silently find my clothes as it was still a little dark but eventually I did and I tiptoed out of that room. The old me would have been running to the church’s confessional to confess my sins but not that day. That day I felt like I had been reborn but that feeling would not last long. Two months after my one night stand with a stranger, I was at a house showing with clients when I started to feel queasy. I cut the meeting short and was contemplating going to see a doctor cause I didn’t feel right and I rarely fell ill, when all of a sudden I remembered that I hadn’t had to get tampons for a while. I’m not one of those people who log all their periods and whatnot, I was a virgin so I didn’t see the need to and my parents didn’t put me on birth control because it wasn’t “Biblical” in their words. But then it dawned on me, I was a virgin until two months ago. I rushed to the nearest drugstore, bought close to 50 pregnancy test kits and sped home. All the while I was driving I kept praying that my suspicions wouldn’t be true. But like I said, the universe had it out for me so of course all the pregnancy tests I took came out glaringly positive. I dropped to my bathroom floor and cried till I fell asleep. The next day I tried jogging my memory to remember anything from that night. A name, an address, Anything, but I just couldn’t. I went to see a doctor and she confirmed that I was exactly 2 months pregnant. I drove to my parents house to break the news to them and I don’t know what I was expecting but it certainly wasn’t what I got from them. They accused me of being the one who cheated on Carl and used my pregnancy as an excuse to call of the wedding. I left my parents house speechless and in tears after they both told me that they wanted nothing to do with me or my baby and they disowned me. A week after, the firm that I worked for announced that they’d be merging with a bigger company and they had to let some people go. Unfortunately, I was one of those people. In just a short period of time I lost my man, my parents and my job and to make matters worse, I was pregnant with a strangers child. I needed a clean start so I made the decision to start afresh. I was going to move to a new city, get a new job and prepare to bring my baby into the world. Things didn’t look like they’d get better but I was determined to make something good come out of the mess that had become my life. My move to a new city wasn’t easy, the first couple of weeks I felt homesick and that combined with pregnancy was the worst combination of all. I had a good amount of money saved so I just prioritized taking care of myself and my baby who was growing very rapidly inside me. On the 7th month of my pregnancy, I went into labor. After 14 hours of pushing and sweating I gave birth to a fat, healthy baby boy and as I held him in my arms looking down at his chubby face I couldn’t help but notice that his eyes were glowing faintly, it seemed unnatural. A nurse asked if anything was wrong and I nodded no, then she asked what I was going to name him. I looked down at my baby suckling gently on my n*****s and said “Hi baby, I’m gonna call you Kyle. Kyle Collins. And I will love you till the end of my days”
