Chapter 1: Amoura’s POV

1103 Words
5 years later ************* “Be a good boy at daycare today okay? No lifting things you’re not supposed to.” I said to Kyle as I kissed his hair before dropping him off. He wasn’t your regular 4 year old. He was much stronger for his age and even his teachers had started to notice it. I hurried through the city to make it to the office where I worked as a secretary. A big meeting was scheduled to hold. Rumor was that a hotshot business mogul was going to be buying our firm. Just thinking about it made me sick. It brought back old memories from 5 years ago that I’d struggled to bury. I just hoped he decided to keep all the old staff. I had a 4 year old boy, about to turn 5, to worry about. I got to my workplace and ran to make it to the elevator before it closed. Finally at my desk I scrambled to put my things in order before the manager, Olivia, came in. She always had something condescending to say to me for some reason. Well, speak of the devil. “What on earth inspired you to wear that hideous outfit today Amoura?” Olivia asked walking into the office with the new intern, Chelsea, trailing behind her holding her bag and coffee and a billion other things that was too much for her hands. “Just cause you’re a single mom doesn’t mean you should dress all drab and shabby. You need to be more appealing if you’re ever going to give that poor little kid of yours a dad.” And with that she walked off towards her office Chelsea offered me an emphatic look following her. I was used to her insult laced advice so I wasn’t going to let that bother me. I got to work and soon I forgot about that whole encounter. Olivia paged me on the intercom asking me to hurry and go get coffee for the meeting as the potential buyers were close by, so I rushed out the office to the Cafe down the street. I got back to Olivia waiting impatiently at my desk.“Where have you been? Our clients have been waiting. Get your ass in there now!” I hurried into the conference room mumbling apologies as I scrambled to get everyone their coffee and then I got to the head of the table and finally lifted my head to look at the man who sat there. The first thing I noticed were his eyes. They looked so similar to Kyle’s and had that unnatural glow behind it. Then his face, My god, this man was gorgeous. I dropped my eyes and set his coffee down causing our skins to touch. It was brief but it felt like I’d been zapped by an electric current. “Amoura you’re wasting our time. Hurry up and get sitted so you can start taking notes.” Olivia sneered. She just couldn’t help embarrassing me. “Uhm…Yes. Sorry.” I said before heading to my sit. As the meeting went on, I could feel the mans gaze on me. Something didn’t feel right, there was something familiar about him. Like I had met him somewhere before but I just couldn’t place it. Eventually the meeting ended and I ran out of the room as fast as I could to my desk where Chelsea was waiting. I knew she was looking for gossip. “Oh my god! you missed seeing Olivia acting a fool over that hot CEO guy. She was practically fawning over him.” She said adjusting her glasses on the bridge of her nose, “I mean I don’t blame her. Did you see him? Finally I can put a face to the infamous Noah Calder.” I froze. “Noah? Noah Calder? As in the most successful businessman in the city who has never granted anyone an interview or let anyone see his face?” I spat out in shock. I’d heard so many stories about him. He was some sort of god in the corporate world but no one knew what he looked like. The doors of the conference room swung open making Chelsea run back to her station. Noah Calder walked out with his bodyguards trailing behind him and Olivia following behind looking slightly irritated. He passed by my desk giving me a brief glance as our eyes met again. The electric current i felt when our skins touched ran through me again and I was convinced I’d met him somewhere before. He left the office with his entourage and Olivia requested all the staff to come to the conference room for a meeting. “This is to inform you that as of today, This firm has been sold to Noah Calder. He has agreed to keep all old staff and will officially assume his CEO position next week. So In the meantime we will have to put things in place to make his stay seamless.” Olivia stated, pacing the room. “Amoura.” Olivia called, startling me. “Mr Calder has requested that you assume a new position starting from next week. He wants you to be his Personal Assistant.” My mouth dropped in shock and Chelsea squealed excitedly before Olivia glared at her. “I don’t know why he picked you, there are far more qualified people to fill that role. I even offered myself but for some reason he wanted you so you better not f**k things up.” She was now standing in front of me. “I…I promise to do my best. I won’t mess things up.” I responded, my voice breaking as all eyes were on me. I could feel the tears threatening to spill. I didn’t understand why she constantly felt the need to put me down in public. The meeting ended and I went back to my desk. Chelsea came over later squealing like a child. “Oh my god, you’re gonna be alone with him all the time. I’m so jealous.” I rolled my eyes, “It’s just work.” But I was also wondering why he picked me to be his PA. Chelsea suggested that we checked out his online profile and I agreed. Net worth of $4.7B, Never offered an interview. There was no picture of him online but the blogs all seemed to be praising him and his strong business acumen. No mention of where he was from either. Who was this man? And why did my son have his eyes?
