Prologue
Time ran in slow motion as I squeezed my way through the masses, unable to comprehend what it was that I was viewing.
What is he doing on national television? Elijah thought towards me from his location.
“It can’t be anything good.” I murmured, unable to take my eyes off his face. My heart ached painfully as I studied his features on the high-definition monitor that decorated the gigantic building. Those ocean blue eyes that I longed for. His face was just a mask of humanity, and yet I couldn’t comprehend his intention.
People were murmuring amongst themselves, scoffing, laughing amongst themselves.
His expression twisted, and it was then that I knew what he was going to do.
“NO!” I screeched, eyes turning around towards me as I tried to force myself closer to the building.
Chaos.
No way in hell. Elijah was horror stricken, a loss for words. He wouldn’t…
“It’s too late.” I said, terror in my voice as I watched him snatch up the person interviewing him. His eyes turned pitch black as he drained the human of his blood. He dropped him to the ground, a cruel smile twisting his once sweet features. I dropped to my knees.
All of this. We went through all of this… For what?
Is this really to be my fate once again?
The silence around me was stifling as the humans looked on, not sure what they were seeing. Until the screams began. Not just on the television where an entire news crew was slaughtered live, but around me as the sun went down.
They were making their move, tearing through the masses, filling the city streets with blood. I had to fight the red haze that threatened to take me, an echo of a long ago fight. I wrapped my arms around my head and screamed, unheard in the c*****e surrounding.
