Get In or Out

1028 Words
Sebastian's POV Sage ran off from the kitchen to get some clothes I could borrow. I finally took back control from Damien. "What the f**k are you doing?" I said to my naive wolf, "there aren't any road closures. We need to get home asap." I want to stay. Something is off and wrong. We need to figure out what is going on with her and her family. Did you notice the stones around the house? I did notice them. The small gray and white stones that sat in small decorative dishes around the house. A vase with lavender or snapdragons was usually close by. They were also in the photo of her parents in their room. What do they mean? Why did the rogue have the same stone? Is she tied to the rogues? She is not a rogue or tied to them. There has to be another excuse or explanation. She can't be. As he trails off with his words, a sense of sadness and pain hit me like a truck. Something was wrong. I ran to her parents room and only the light in the closet was on. I went into the closet and found Sage on the ground clutching her father's pajama pants to her chest as she sobbed into them. I froze and didn't know what to do. Damien kept yelling at me to either comfort her or he would. No matter how much I wanted to, I couldn't move. I didn't know how to comfort her. I didn't know how to make her feel better. I didn't know what to do. Damien finally got tired of my bullshit and took control. He quickly pushed his way into the closet and wrapped his arms around her. He focused on absorbing her sadness and taking part of it on so she would hurt as bad. She cried into our chest and I felt her sadness slowly dissipate. Once I figured out what I needed to do, I took back over control from Damien. He was starting to take on too much of her sadness and hurt. He wasn't used to it. So I made him step back so I could help her. After a while, she lifted her head and met my gaze. "I'm sorry about this. I didn't think it would hit me this hard. I never realized how much their smell would still be around and how much I would miss it," she said as she started to pull away from me. Don't let go of her, Damien growled. I pushed him further back. I want to comfort her, not scare her. I helped her stand up. "I'm sorry about the pants," she said as she realized they were soaked with her tears, "I can grab you a different pair." She turned and grabbed another pair of pants. "These should work. Now, I would like to leave this room," she said and started to head out of the room. As I started to walk out of the closet, I noticed one of the gray, white stones tucked on a shelf. As I grabbed it, I noticed a symbol had been painted into the stone. It looked like three moons together. I slipped the stone into my pocket and walked out of the room carrying the pajamas. Sage pointed and told me that there was a bathroom connected to the guest room that I could change in. She had already changed into a pair of thin shorts and a tank top. Damien almost jumped her when he first saw her. I have never struggled to hold him back like I have tonight. As I got into the bathroom, I took the stone out of my pocket and took a photo of it with my phone. In a group chat with James, my dad, and my brother, I sent the photo. I followed with a text that said "Remember the girl I was telling you about. Well, Damien has her stuck at her house for the night, and I found this. Her dad was clearly a werewolf, but her mom isn't. Her mom's scent is strange and there's nothing I've ever smelled before. James did you find any information on the stone." I set my phone down and put the stone in the sink. I changed into the dry clothes she gave me and carried my wet ones downstairs. When I went into the kitchen, a sweet and pleasant smell hit my nose. Sage turned to me and gave me a soft smile. "I'm glad they fit! Give me those. I'll put them in the wash and have them read for you tomorrow," she spoke as she grabbed the clothes, "While I put them in the washer, you can have some tea. I noticed the scratches on your face. Whenever my dad got hurt, my mom made this tea. They always healed faster with the tea." I noticed small tears start to develop in the corner of her eyes, but she pushed a smile through and left the kitchen. I picked up the tea and took a sip. It tasted sweet and earthy. It had yellowish, orange flowers in it. As I drank it, I felt a warmth rush through my body. It felt nice. After about five minutes, Sage came back into the kitchen. "How is the tea?" she asked as she picked up a cup of tea for herself. "It's delicious. I've never had any like it before. What kind is it?" I asked while never letting my eyes leave her. "Oh, I use calendula flowers that I grow as the base and add some lavender and honey to make it taste better," she said with a soft giggle, "my mother used to make it with only calendula flowers. My dad always hated drinking it. He said it tastes the same as eating them in the yard." She let out a giggle and the biggest smile. I felt happiness and a small sting of sadness radiate off of her. She loved and missed them so much. I wonder what happened to them, but I don't think I can ask her now.
