Chapter 4

SELENA POV.

I was busy during the day but lonely at night.l could hardly sleep at night.Fear had taken over my night every now and then.

I just stood up, opened the window.There l could have a view at the sky.The moon was full and bright,the stars sparkled.

"So beautiful"l muttered.

In my father's Kingdom l didn't have this chance to admire the beauty of the sky.

I closed the windows and went back to lie down.i was so restless so l came out again,l noticed a door just by the corner of the stairs.

Curiosity struck me and l walked closer to have a good look it was not locked.The room was cold and neat.l switched on the light.

There was a painting on the wall,l walked closer to have a good look at it.it was the painting of a young and beautiful woman.

"Who is she?"

I knew immediately that Carmen won't like me in here.l walked away from there.on the center table was a book.l flipped the pages of the book and stepped in a particular page .The writings were strange.l could not read it.

But it looked familiar.l became curious again.

Carmen's mother was just a maid and she got pregnant for the king.was it that she she had some sort of connection yo the dragons lineage?But how?

l sighed.l did not see how that concerned me.l closed the book then l saw a shelf.

I woke up early the next morning feeling restless like l haven't slept at all.l took a stroll around the palace compound,walking towards the servants quarters to check if Winter was up yet.

As l moved closer,l heard the sounds of someone more like two people whispering. I walked quietly and listened attentively and l could hear them.

"I haven't heard or seen anything"

"If you hear or see anything remember to report to me immediately"

As l walked closer so l could have a clearer view ,l hit my foot against something and it made sound.

"Who is there?"The guard drew out his sword.

I was scared it was so eerie in this palace.

I remained quiet sobbing quietly.

His footsteps approached slowly" Who is there?"

My heart raced in fear and l closed my eyes.suddenly there was a gentle breeze and zoom l disappeared.

"Carmen" l almost screamed.He was back!.

Back in our bedroom, l looked away feeling shy and embarrassed.

"What were you doing there?" He asked.

"Nothing....l....

" You were what?"He roared.

His voice was like that of a lions roar.His eyes turned blue and fear gripped me.

"Leave me to die please"

"Die.....look...get some sleep".

" l don't want to sleep"

Her sweet fragrance attracted him.

"No....He closed his eyes trying to restrain himself" Selena.......

I sat there frightened. He stood up walking further. He pushed me roughly on the bed.

"Carmen....please...

He bit me so hard and l could feel him tearing my skin .l screamed loudly in pain.Tears rolled down my eyes and l passed out.

Carmen returned to his normal form he saw the red deep cut he had given me.

Meanwhile,Forsythe had gone to visit his mother,the queen.

"Long live her Majesty" he was on his knees.

"Stand up son" she smiled.

Forsythe smiled and stood up.He sat on the chair by his mother's side as a maid pour him tea.

"Mother,how are you?"

"I am Fine dear.What brings you here ?"

"Mother,Carmen has returned"

The mother gave the maids and guards a quick glanced and they scurried away quickly.

The queen sighed "So how are you fairing in court?"

"There's no problem. Carmen does not attend meetings and nobody ever recognise him as a prince but mother l am worried"

"Yes,if he wants to destroy this kingdom, its just a wave of his hand.His powers are giving me concerns and sleepless nights"

"He can even over throne the King,Carmen is a threat to this kingdom. A monster"

"We must find a way to eliminate him so there won't be any trouble in the future"

"Sure mother"

Winter was returning back to the east palace when she bumped into the prince,the third prince.

"Your Highness... I am sorry"

"Its fine" he smiled warmly.

Winter lowered her head.

"Why are you in a haste?"

"I heard something happened to my mistress so l wanted to go check on her"

"Don't worry,she would be fine.What's your name?" He asked.

"Winter, your Highness"

He noded and walked away.

Carmen left the room immediately Winter approached.

"My princess" Winter shouted.

"Winter''Selenas voice was pale.

Winter knelt beside the bed''My princess ,what happened?"

Selena shook her head"Nothing"

"You are lying" Winter saw the mark in Selena's neck"My princess....this...that monster gave it to you?"

Carmen was half human by day but monster by nightfall.

"Winter..... I am .......

Winter was furious" You need to stay away from that monster"

"Help me sit up" Selena spoke weakly.

Winter helped her to sit up.Tears rolled down her cheeks.l,

"Winter ,l am so pitiful, aren't l?"

She sighed deeply.

It was a windy night,the moon gave her brightness to the earth..

"Princess, it's ready. Let's go"

Selena nodded and got up ready to go. She reasoned that it was not necessary to inform Carmen of her departure.

Lynn servant, Elsa saw them leaving and reported to her mistress immediately.

"Follow them and find out where they are heading to" Lynn ordered.

Elsa transformed into an owl and flew away.

"We must hurry princess" Winter spoke as they approached the town market.

Everywhere was deserted.Selena adjusted her cloak and a cough escaped her cold and pale lips. She was feeling dizzy.

"Stop there" a male voice spoke.

Selena and winter stopped walking immediately. Selena turned to look at who spoke.There were three men.They looked like robbers.

"What do you want?" Winter spoke and stood in front of Selena.

"Run princess" She whispered.

"What about you?" Selena asked.

The leader of the gang grabbed Winter.

"Princess run" Winter cried out.

"Princess,what is a princess doing outside the palace.interesting" The leader smirked.

"Leave her alone" Selena yelled, her voice was not audible.

"Leave them alone" a young man approached.

"Who is the visitor? Go back, You are welcomed" One of them spoke.

"Bullying women makes you a weak man" he walked closer to Selena.

"Are you okay?"

Selena opened her mouth but no sound came out.she looked at his face.He was good looking and charming.

He turned to the men"Leave her alone"

One of the men ran to attack him but the young man grabbed him by the neck and looked straight into his attacker's eyes.His eyes turned red and reflected in his opponent eyes.

He released the man and the man spoke "Command me master".

" Now drive those men away"

"Your wish is my command"

Winter ran to where Selena lay.

The stranger knelt beside Selena and touched her forehead"Her body is so cold.We need to keep her warm.Where is your house?".he asked Winter.

"Its still far from here.We can't go there on foot with her like this"

"I happen to live close by.Let's go to my house then"

He carried Selena in his arms with Winter walking behind him.

Carmen came out of his hiding place.He watched them leave.

"Why didn't you attack?" Dwagne asked.

"The guardian,he helped them" His plan was shattered.

He didn't expect him to show up and help Selena.

I returned to the palace with Winter very early the next morning.

Lynn saw us sneaking back into the palace.

I walked to the bedroom and met Carmen by the window, his back turned to me.

"Good morning Carmen" l greeted but got no reply.

It felt strange. I didn't know whether to stay or leave.

"I would take my leave Now"

"You cannot live here anymore" he replied.

"What do you mean?"

"You are restricted from coming here"

I fell on my knees"l was careless please forgive me "

"You left on your own. You didn't think it was important to inform me about it. I should not have granted your stupid wish"

My tears flowed on.

"Punish her,Give her a slow death" Dwagne insisted.

"Momoa" he called and a guard came in.

"Take her and lock her in the dungeon"

"Sure your highness"

Momoa grabbed me.

Winter came in that instant.

"Just in time wench" he took Winter himself and went to lock her up in one of the rooms in the house.

Momoa dragged me to the cold and damp Dungeon which was in the abandoned house at the back of the main residence.

My mouth was covered with a cloth and tied tightly behind my head which muffled my cry for help.

My hands were chained to the pole in my left and right hand side respectively.

Carmen walked in and nodded in satisfaction.

"You may leave"

Momoa nodded and left.

I raised up my head and fixed my weak gaze at him.What did he gain by doing this?

"I told you the moment you arrived here that l would torture you till l leave you in the welcoming hands of death"

He walked closer and used his long fingers to raise my jaw forcing me to look at him.

"You are useless to me except that l need your blood to survive"

My head dropped,l was too weak to respond in any way.

"She's weak. You can kill her now" Dwagne persuaded.

"Now tell me where the guardian is?"

I closed my eyes, l was unconscious. He walked away.

After placing a barrier at the bed entrance of the dungeon.

Lynn could not wait for Selena to leave the palace. She believed Carmen was hers and hers alone.

He related to her than anyone else in the palace and she was proud of this.

Carmen was rumored to be the Dragons last descendants bug nobody knew if if  was actually true.

Naturally, he was cursed and that turned him into a monster.

He had mysterious and frightening powers and that made him the most powerful man in the five kingdoms.

Other kingdoms were scared of Goblea because it housed a powerful monster. Carmen.

Nobody had seen his real face because the curse turned him into half human by day and full monster by nightfall

My whole body shook. I was cold,hungry and tired. Tears rolled down to my dried cheeks.

This was the second day and yet Carmen has refused to let me go.

I knew this was more than the offence he accused me of.

Back in my Fathers cruel palace, l was never thrown in a dungeon. My breathing was weak and it looked as if my end has come.

"Selena.... Selena...... A faint voice called.

I recognized the voice and opened my eyes.Mother.

She could see her mother's ghost walking towards me.

''My dear Selena" My mother touched my face"oh,l have missed you so much''

She planted a k*ss on my forehead.

More tears rolled down my eyes.l could not talk because my mouth was tied.

"Don't worry,you must survive this.you have alot of responsibilities and the lives of many people depends on your survival in the future and so you must stay alive.He may torture you but trust me, he won't kill you.you must find a way to break the curse or else............... Her mother stopped and gave Selena an expressionless face" its not a good thing"

She touched my face"l missed you so much baby.Don't worry, just know that in times of trouble l would protect you.Take care Selena"

I shook my head and watch her mother's ghost disappeared.

Carmen walked in that instant holding a bowl of water in his hands.

His eyes blazed with fury as he spoke "Ready to talk?"

He untied the cloth in my mouth and gave me little water to drink .The water he gave me was not really enough to quench my thirst.

"Now tell me,how did the guardian find you?"

I regained a little strength to answer him"Who's that?''

He walked around me"You know who l am talking about?His name is Purcell".

''I don't know him"

This reply really angered him and he threw the remaining water away.

''Nooooooooo................

He walked closer to her neck"It seems you are not healed now.How about l take another bite "

"Noo...........

My pleas fell in deaf ears as he rubbed my soft and fair skin.He placed his teeth and l screamed out loudly.

He removed his face and licked the blood in his lips.
