A Close Call
When Kat awakened the next morning, she decided to act as if nothing had happened and not to bring up the subject again. That did not mean, however, that she was giving up. Instead of a frontal assault, she needed a flanking maneuver. She would get all of her logistics set up before embarking on this campaign. That meant talking to all those involved—Courtney, Meg, Ondine, Claire, and Tom—and enlisting their support. Was Rebecca an involved party? Should she talk to her, too? What other slaves did Paul have out there in other cities?
Kat decided that if she just got the support of the current “core,” those whom she knew, it would reassure Paul that she did not want to upset his s****l applecart. If he still didn’t want to marry her, then she’d withdraw the gift
