Chapter V - Breaking the news

“What took you so long?” She pouted. We spent the next forty minutes lost in each other and when we were done, we had a shower and went downstairs to meet Kerbe and Larna for the training. Surprisingly, we were the first ones and we had to wait for them for a good couple of minutes before we decided to make our way over to the training grounds. “Ah, good for you to join us!” I smirked at them. We had only just arrived at the training grounds when they showed up. “We’re on time, aren’t we?” Larna answered me, her voice dripping in sarcasm. “Ah, Larna, you are in such a good mood. Your boy toy no longer satisfies you?” Kimmy said, grabbing my arm and laughing at her sister. “Why don’t you mind your own s****l activities? You’ve been having plenty of that lately as it is.” Larna smirked over to me. “Okaaaay, let’s start training. Since you two have got so much to tell each other, pair up. Kerbe, you’re with me. We’re going to do half an hour of cardio warm-up and then an hour and a half of human form training followed by one hour in wolf form. No power training today. No more ripping of fangs and claws. My mom, your parents and uncle Theo already hate me as it is because of it, and I don’t want to lose my life before I get to claim the title. Am I clear?” I eyed the triplets carefully, and they all nodded, getting into position. We spent the next three hours training and as we were getting ready to wrap it up they all came over to me, with worried expressions on their faces. “Who died?” I asked, trying to break the tension I could see in their eyes. “Killian, we have been wondering about the ascension. How much longer do you think we can stay here? We kind of need to head over to the headquarters and put everything in order. You know what the plan is after we ascend. Why are we delaying this?” Kerbe voiced out for the three of them. “Ki, it's getting harder for them to accept what we are becoming, they are scared of us. They are scared they will lose the little control they have over us and we’ll be the end of them. I love my mom but I think we should do what we said we were going to do. If they want to help, they are welcome to do so, but it’s getting harder and harder to split between two places and they really need us back. People are starting to doubt our intentions. Your intentions.” Larna continued her brother’s point. “I guess I was so caught up in everything happening lately that I didn’t realise they would need us so soon… I was kind of hoping we’d get until the ascension to start everything. But you are right, we can’t delay this anymore. How much longer can Ben keep it all under control?” I turned to look at Kerbe. “Maybe a week at most, but he needs to speak to you directly. Also, there are about 25 more people that arrived yesterday and they will also need a joining and binding ceremony.” Kerbe’s manner had changed from my best friend to my Beta in a matter of seconds. “Okay, cool. Call Ben, let him know we’re coming back tomorrow night. That gives us almost a day to sort our s**t out and drop the bomb. There’s a meeting with the Peace-keepers on Tuesday. Shall we make it official then?” “I think we should stir some s**t. I am bored.” Kimmy jumped on my back excited and I chuckled. We were all bored. “I think you all should be in the meeting. If all the Royals are there, something tells me we should all expect some serious power tripping. You will love this shit.” I laughed playfully, imagining the chaos that would ensue after the announcement. The anticipation was making my gums tingle. Kimmy jumped off my back and looked at me with a frown. “You are enjoying this a bit too much, Killian. I can feel your excitement and it’s making me hungry!” she glared at me. “Wanna go for a hunt? It’s almost midnight, so it’s a great time to hunt. Plus, we haven’t had a group hunt in a while.” Kerbe’s proposal took Kimmy by surprise and she started nodding her head frantically. Larna was also excited about hunting. Kerbe was right, we haven’t done this since we returned to the Council House two weeks ago. “Okay. Lead the party, little beast.” As soon as the words came out of my mouth she shifted into her massive black wolf and soon two more identical black wolves appeared on each side of her. They were waiting for me to shift so they could take off running. I obliged and shifted into my big white wolf, Jax. He stood taller than the three black wolves, his black eyes enough to make any beast cower in fear. His all-white fur was only tainted by one red tear-shaped spot in the middle of his chest. Jax let out a howl and went dashing through the woods, with the triplets following close behind. The next morning, a meeting was called and everyone was waiting for me and the triplets in the conference room. “Good morning everyone.” I said, pulling a chair out from the table. I continued before I sat down, “I know you may all be wondering why I have called you to yet another meeting. Before I start, I would like to demand complete silence until we finish announcing what we need to announce. Also, please know that this is not something up for debate. This HAS already happened. Now, Larna, you may start.” As I finished, I sat down on my chair and gave the triplets the “honour” of breaking the news. I just sat back and observed everyone’s reactions. “Right, thank you Alpha. If you can all remember, in the last meeting we had, Kimmy was saying she'd found a place in between the territories to set base for our new kingdom.” Everyone nodded. “What she failed to say was that the future Kingdom is already established. We have the land, we have the packhouse and we have our pack. “ she stepped back and allowed Kerbe to continue. “Our pack, as of this moment, stands at 1,273 members of all of the species. Some blessed, some ordinary. Men, women, children. Full-blooded beasts and half-bloods alike, we even have some human mates. The House will be attested on Sunday at midnight. We have an Elder in our pack that is ready to perform the ceremony, but we would like The Impartials to bless the pack into joining the other Houses. Considering it is our Alpha’s birthright to Rule over the Houses of Lamia and Lycaon, as well as the prophesied King of all 10 Official Houses, it is normal for our future King to want to establish a kingdom of his own, one that hasn’t been inherited, therefore we have already set our headquarters, as Larna has mentioned.” As soon as he was done and he stepped back, Kimmy stepped forward. “Due to the size of our growing pack, we cannot delay returning to the headquarters any longer. We will be going back tonight. If there are any questions I will be more than happy to address them.” She, too, has stepped into her role as a Hunter. They were my team, and as they stood there breaking the news to our family I couldn’t be prouder of them. “Before any questions are addressed, I would like to address some concerns you may all have. After I ascend, I will fully step into my role as the King of all Kingdoms. However, the ownership of the Midnight Blood Clan will remain in the capable hands of Queen Ana, my mother, while the ownership of my father’s pack will be mine. I do not consider Cromus capable of ruling a pack, let alone be King. At least not anymore, not after he lost his mate. I hope for a smooth transition. However, if that doesn’t happen and I have to challenge him for the title… we all know I will not spare him.” I gritted my teeth and remembered some of the comments that he made while he was visiting, towards my mother and her relationship with my dad. The asshole deserved to die and I’d gladly give Jax the honour. “Kim has a latent succubus side, while Larna is showing signs of a siren. Kerbe, we believe might be a dryad. If it happens that I am correct, we have the potential to convince the current kings and queens of all of the Houses to give over the power and bend the knee. I know they don’t tend to be violent, so we hope they will agree to a peaceful transition also.” “Wait, what? You are planning on taking over the Houses? Since when?” Des asked, confused. “I am not planning on taking anything more than what is rightfully ours. The only four kingdoms I haven’t got anything on are the Witches, the Giants, the Hunters and the Drakanae. But I believe our display of allies to be enough to convince them. The prophecy is not only about the Purge. I don’t want a Purge. I want what I was prophesied to have, to be. I am the one and only King and it is about time I stepped into those shoes.” "I know we always encouraged you to take what is yours, but this is a potential war, this is madness." my mom started shouting. I swear there is no pleasing this woman. "There is only going to be a war if they want one. If they know what's best for them, they will bend the knee to their one true King. As will everyone else. Just because I chose not to own them doesn't mean they aren't mine. Besides, I’m not trying to be the villain in this story, quite the opposite. My plan is to unify the Houses, upgrade the laws so that they serve to bring justice, and protect those who need protection. Over the nine years of building our own pack from f*****g scratch, we came across people who needed shelter. Pack members whose packs turned to dust in the blink of an eye, abused mates that escaped their assailant’s grasp. Children that were left for dead because they had mixed blood flowing through their veins." I couldn't help the low threatening growl that erupted from my throat. The very people that were supposed to stay by my side through it all were also the first ones to oppose it. "You seem to think this is up for debate. It's not. I plan to announce it on Tuesday at the regional meeting. I thought it would be right not to take you by surprise and maybe have the Impartials in my corner. Fear not, with or without you I will take what belongs to me. The triplets can answer whatever questions you have. I am going for a run, nobody is allowed to come looking for me." I walked outside in the back garden and shifted into Jax, giving him reign to do as he pleased. I could not be bothered to think about what the triplets were going through at that very moment. You've done well, kid. Don't worry about it. They will come through in the end. Jax broke through the silence in my head as he was approaching, yet again, the lake. I know they will, they have no other choice. The only way to ensure their survival is to be in my good books, otherwise they perish in the next Purge. I knew this wasn't the truth, at least not for all of them, but I couldn't help but feel that they were hiding something. Don't let your vigilance turn into paranoia, pup. Some of them are part of our pack. We take care of our pack. Jax had always been a territorial Alpha and with every level-up he was becoming more and more dominant, his aura demanding submission. That's why I got you, you old flea bag. Come on, let's go for a dip. I could feel Kerbe pushing through my mental block, which could only mean me and Jax got so caught up we spent more time than we were meant to. What's up, Kerbe? It's half seven. We leave in half an hour. Ok, I will be there in a few minutes.
