We didn’t waste any time getting ready, Silas had faith in me, but I was still unsure of my abilities. I had been training every day for the last year with him and I could sense that Norma Jean was in danger but part of me was unsure if I could actually help anyone. I knew I was Norma Jeans only hope at surviving this, so I had to focus and trust in everything I had learned so far.
“By your lead John,” Silas said fiercely as he unsheathed his sword and Imbued his Armor from his robes.
I took my sword in both hands and gripped tightly; my only thought was getting Norma Jean back from the Levirnius.
“Odo!” I shouted raising my sword skyward and bringing it down in front of me on the ground.
As I did a c***k like a whip sounded and a Gate appeared before us. Silas laughed triumphantly, slapping me on the back as he smiled. As we started walking towards the gate the blue light it gave off reflected on my red armor. Before we walked through, I turned towards Silas and shook his hand silently.
When we got to the other side of the Gate, we walked into what looked like a throne room in an old castle. There were torn white banners along the walls with a skull emblem in their centers. The room was light by large chandeliers that only had candles in them. Lining the walls, we’re all sorts of troops from the Demonic Legions, I could see the large Empyreal Class Demons, the severely disfigured Soldier Demons, I looked ahead at the throne and seen Levirnius sitting relaxed. Next to the throne stood a Demon Noble with his arms behind his back.
“Welcome, took you longer to get here than I expected but here you are,” He said gleefully clapping his hands together repeatedly.
As he stood up his sword clanked off the armor covering his leg. Walking down the steps towards us he had a sort of sinister stride to him.
“Where is Norma!” I demanded stepping forward.
“Oh, your muse,” he mocked, “I’m afraid she is safely being tortured by Asmodeus in the dungeon.”
Silas moved forward within earshot of me, “I will save Norma, but you must be the one to fight Levirnius.”
“Ok,” I replied not taking my eyes off Levirnius.
“Oh, Silas you are free to roam as you see fit, the Legion and Noble here, are merely present to bear witness to the destruction of the Nephilim,” Levirnius said as he dismissed Silas waving him off, “however it should be noted they are also free to do as they see fit.”
Silas backed away slowly and started walking away leaving me and Levirnius alone surrounded by the demons.
“Have fun Silas,” Levirnius sang before returning his attention to me.
We stood for a moment in complete silence, not even the Legion said a word.
“Well John, it seems no witty banter will fall between us,” Levirnius said as he started walking.
“I’m in no mood for small talk, I only came here to see you destroyed for everything you’ve done,” I replied walking opposite of him creating a circle between us.
“Why not,” he asked shrugging his arms, “all great battles begin with a dialogue between enemies, and seeing as how you are my enemy, I was merely allowing you a moment for final words.”
“Fine, here are some final words. I won’t let you get away from all those people you killed. You will die here and now,” I said fiercely.
Levirnius chuckled, “and a half breed such as yourself will be the one does so I imagine you’ll say. The owner of your contract will gain plenty of enjoyment when I tell him how you groveled for life before I pierced my sword into your chest.”
“Yeah? And who would that be I wonder,” I said sarcastically.
“Lucifer of course,” he said wryly, “you see when he had been contacted by the other Arch Angels about you, he was also intrigued about your parentage. He said there was no way he had any other children than that of his daughter.”
He stopped walking for a second and turned to face me resting his arm on the pommel of his sword.
“But then wouldn’t you know it, when you Scryed the world and he felt you he knew there was no doubt that you were his son,” Levirnius stated.
He started waving his arms as he talked, “so naturally he became quite intrigued by this and went to the only one who could create such a creature as yourself using Demonic and Angelic traits to be made with a human.”
He smiled showing his teeth, “Lilith.”
“You see, in our lovely little slice of chaos Lilith is our mother,” He said, “so if anyone figured out how to infuse Angelic and Demonic energies it was her. But I’m sad to say that before she could reveal anything to Lucifer, he might have lost his temper and destroyed her.”
There was a collective laugh from the demons surrounding us. I let him talk so I could figure out my exact plan as Silas had trained me. The Demon Noble made a coughing sound pretty much signaling Levirnius that this dialogue had come to an end.
“Well John it would seem that your time is up,” Levirnius said as he drew his sword in his right hand and Sycle into his left.
“Well see about that,” I replied raising my sword and pointing the tip towards him.
Levirnius smiled and ran towards me in flash bring his sword across his body in an upward stroke. I blocked with my blade and pushed him backwards creating some space between us. He smiled at me as he threw the Sycle towards me. As soon I dodged it with my shoulder he pulled on the chain and it caught my shoulder. He yanked me towards him thrusting his sword towards me. Thinking quickly, I Trans mutated the gauntlet on my left arm into a small shield and blocked his strike.
I shoved my shield upwards creating a space to drive the tip of my blade into. As I did Levirnius side stepped causing me to miss completely. As we spun around, he dropped his cycle to his side, and I returned my shield into the gauntlet. We both swung our swords at each causing the blades to skip off another, there We stood in place for a moment, just striking each other’s blades as hard as we could. Every time we did sparks would fly off where they met.
Levirnius raised his sword in the air with one hand and I went to do an upward strike with one hand. As we swung, I caught his sword with my free hand, and he caught mine in his. We stood there locked, not breaking each other’s gaze and we, both gritted our teeth as we both tried to gain some kind of ground.
“It would seem Silas has taught you quite well and we almost appear to be evenly matched,” he said through his clenched teeth.
I couldn’t say anything I was more focused on how to escape this situation.
“However this is where you will see how outclassed you are,” Levirnius said as a devilish smile broke across his face.
I started to feel my knees bend as Levirnius pushed against me. I pushed back hard but slowly I could feel myself being pushed back. No matter what I did I couldn’t stop him from pushing me to my knee. I wanted to try and regain my footing but it felt like if I moved I would surely slip and then I would be done.
I could hear Levirnius start to laugh as he pushed me towards the ground. He began to wish my hand hold my sword causing it to fall onto the ground. As It did I thrust out my hand, “Barius,” I said. Allowing a column of lightning to rush forward from my fingertips pushing Levirnius backwards and creating some space between us. I picked up my sword and readied myself for his next attack not taking my eyes off him.
“Still having to speak your Will,” he said manically, “That is why you will die here and now.”
He snapped his fingers and a ring of fire surrounded us. He then twirled his sword and raised his sword above his head with the tip of the blade pointing at me.
I stood there for a moment pondering my next move. I then remembered Silas’ lesson about changing a landscape to your advantage. He told me to fight on what made feel comfortable.
Levirnius lept towards me to strike but in my mind all I was trying to do was figure out was how to slow him down, and without thinking I plunged my blade into the ground causing a sheet of ice to explode from my sword covering the ground.
As Levirnius’ foot hit the ground he slipped causing him to fall face first onto the ice. At that moment there was a quick chuckle from the demons surrounding our ring.
Levirnius stood up struggling to maintain his footing, “I suppose you think that was pretty cute don’t you.”
“b***h, I’m adorable,” I replied barely able to contain my laughter.
Seeing my expression enraged him and he sheathed his sword and slapped his hands on the ground speaking a flurry of Deemonia. As he did I felt the ground shake beneath me, the ground between us started to swirl and fire and lava began to form.
A large hand started to rise from the pit, followed by a head. Levirnius began laughing hysterically, “You see, two can play at this game, let’s see how you fair against a Golem.”
I took a step back trying to quickly
Come up with a plan as the Golem rose from the pit, he was made up of magma and rock and was easily twice my height. His eyes were nothing but red sockets and his teeth although stone looked very sharp.
As the Golem rose from his knee, stood upright , and turned his head towards Levirnius, who issued his order with a twisted smile on his face, “kill him.”
The Golem looked back at me, and raised both of his hands and began to run towards me. I took my sword in both of my hands and dropped it low and waited.
When the Golem got close I imbued my my sword with some metal from my gauntlets and swung it towards the golems neck, severing it’s head from its body. As it’s head hit the ground I drove the tip of my sword through it.
As I returned my sword to its normal size Levirnius was no longer smiling. He had a maniacal look in his eye as he drew his sword and scycle once again walking briskly towards me. I readied myself for his attack as he started running spinning his scycle beside him by the chain. He then jumped into the air spreading his black feathered wings and threw his scycle at me, hooking my by the shoulder and dragging me into air. The pain was intense, the scycle felt like it was white hot and anything I did made the pain more intense.
He then flew up towards the ceiling with me in tow and we crashed through the glass skylight into the night sky. I was trying to think of how I was going to get free but the second cle was deep in my shoulder and I was bleeding quite a bit from it constantly moving.
“What’s the matter John,” he mocked, “something got you hooked?”
We climbed higher into the sky, he then pulled me up to face him, he removed the scycle from my shoulder and held me with both hands by my collar. Levirnius glared at me as our faces were only a few inches apart.
“I’m going to make sure this hurts,” he said coldly as he flashed a toothy grin.
Levirnius dropped me and I began plummeting to the ground unable to tell which way was up or down. I spread out my legs and arms to try and stabilize myself as fell all my years as a pilot were paying off as my free fall training kicked in. Once my spinning stopped I was able to regain focus on my surroundings, I was falling to the ground but the front of my body was facing the sky. Realizing this I tucked my arms in causing me to rotate so I was then facing the ground.
“If only my wings hadn’t been cut off,” I muttered to myself cursing Kanan and the Holy 56th for a minute.
The air that was rushing past my ears was deafening and I was running out of altitude to come up with a plan.
Then an idea hit me, blue light shimmered on my armor as I imbued my gauntlets, shoulder pads and chest plates, transmuting them into metal feathers that spanned my arms. Flaring our my arms I felt the massive rush as the black and red metal feathers caught the wind, slowing me down allowing me to glide. I may not have actual wings anymore but there was nothing stopping me from creating some.
For a quick idea they worked wonderfully, I didn’t have the ability to climb with them but I was able to slow my decent. As I neared the ground I flared out my wings allowing me gently land in a clearing below. As I looked up I could see Levirnius’ outline high in the sky being illuminated by the moon. After a brief moment I could hear him yell at the top of his lungs as he furled his wings and started diving straight towards me.
Not sure of what to do I let my instincts take over, I closed my eyes and kneeled on the ground resting my hands on the wet grass beneath me. I took a breath and calmed my mind, allowing myself to feel the earth under me.
I opened my eyes and looked up, seeing Levirnius rocketing towards me with his sword pointed outwards towards me with A look of pure uncontrolled rage on his face. But even still it was quiet, I was calm and in a state of pure relaxation.
At the last moment before Levirnius plunged his sword into me I whipped up my hands as blue sparks crackled around them. Bring with them the dirt and rock from below. Levirnius went straight into my trap his sword stopping mere inches from my face and his arm caught in the mound of earth.
“What is this?” He said panicking.
“From earth you are made and to earth you shall return.” I said boldly as I increased the alchemic blue light around my hands and shouting at the top of my lungs.
The rock and dirt swarmed Levirnius wrapping him in a cocoon and trapping him as he screamed. I then used my will to pull molten rock from deep beneath the surface, covering the rock and dirt creating a sort of magma shell. I held it in place with my right hand not releasing my grip as I pulled my sword out of its sheath and drive the tip into the hot liquid rock causing ice crystals to shoot out across the surface. As it hardened I released my grip on it stepping back leaving my sword imbedded in it.
Chapter
As I stepped back I fell to my knees as my red and black metal feathers which had been surrounding my arms, fell to the ground beside me making a dull thud on the ground and clanking when some hit their counterparts. I was Unable to keep them attached to me due to how exhausted I was from using every amount of will power and energy I had to trap Levirnius. Breathing heavily I rolled to the ground laying on my back staring at the night sky.
As I laid there I could hear someone walk through the tree line clapping. I managed to look up unable to stand from how exhausted I was. It was the Demon Noble from earlier. His face bore no expression as he walked towards me. This was it I thought he was going to finish me off.
I ended up rolling onto all fours but I struggled to get to my feet. As I did the Demon Noble rushed to me resting his cold hand on my shoulder.
“Be still Captain, I am here to help, I am not your enemy,” He said calmly Ushering me to sit.
I didn’t have the strength to fight him off so I did as he asked and sat down extending my legs in front of me. He smiled as he placed his hand on my chest.
“This will hurt for only a moment,” the Demon said.
“What?” I replied, then his hand sparked blue and I felt an intense pain shoot through my body but was instantly replaced with the feeling of strength. As the blue light dissipated I no longer felt tired or fatigued. I felt just as refreshed as if I would have slept for the next couple days. In amazement I stood up and faced the Demon Noble.
“Who are you?” I demanded placing my hand on the handle of my sword, “And how did you do that?”
He chuckled a little bit resting his arms behind his back, “You are still in no condition to challenge me Captain Miller your body still needs time to heal.”
I stood for a moment and wondered who he was and why a demon would help me. Obviously noticing my bewildered look the Demon Noble gestured towards the ground.
“If it makes you feel better might I suggest picking up your ‘feathers’ and resubstantiate your armor,” he said bluntly.
I looked around my feet and held out my hands as blue sparks danced around my fingers, bringing the metal feathers back towards me, turning blue as they surrounded my body returning my normal Black and red armor. As the last feather began to reform I left it as it was and fused it with my chest plate.
“That’s better,” the Demon said cheerfully with a toothy grin, “My name is Malphus, I am a prince of hell, first son of Lilith and Leader of the 1st Demonic Legion.”
“Who?” I asked, as I relaxed a bit not sure if this demon was telling the truth.
Malphus rolled his eyes as he sighed, “thought not.”
Before he speak another word a voice rang out through the clearing.
“MALPHUS!” Silas said as he and Norma Jean walked through the tree line, their swords drawn. They both were covered in blood and dirt no doubt from their own battles along the way.
“Silas,” Malphus replied as he lowered his head and half bowed, “it is good to see you my old friend.”
“Old friend?” I asked looking at both of them more confused than ever, “You two know each other?”
“I wish I could say the same,” Silas stated coldly as he and Norma Jean position themselves on either side of me. “Tell me what do you intend to do?”
Malphus stared at Silas for a moment without saying a word, “it is my duty to help the Mix breed, I swore an oath to my mother that when they arise I would be there to guide them.”
“Them?” Silas asked as he lowered his sword.
“Yes, them,” malphus said as he sighed, “Captain Miller there is not the only one of his kind.”
“Well yeah I know I’m not the only Nephilim,” I said bluntly.
Malphus chuckled a little as an evil smile broke across his face, “oh, I see the angels only told you a half truth.”
“What do you mean Malphus, Spit it out,” Silas said forcefully his voice echoing off the trees.
“It would seem Kanan thought best to keep you in the dark as well too Silas,” he said almost taken aback.
“Captain Miller you are one of four children born to the same Mother and Father at the same time, which you know you’re father is Lucifer Morningstar,” malphus said but he paused for a moment to allow the revelation pf my having three siblings sink in, “What you don’t know is that you are also the son of Lilith.”
I felt a cold chill go down my spine and it felt like I couldn’t breathe, he had no reason to lie even though he was a demon.
“You are a hybrid combining Angelic and Demonic Powers within a human Vessel, and one of the other four is contained within that rock,” malphus said as he pointed at Levirnius’ tomb.
“Well he’s dead now,” I said confidently.
“Well no, he’s not,” malphus replied, “as a precaution to your obvious shortcomings of being part human, Lilith worked in to her spells so that you four could not kill each other.”
“So what is our purpose then,” I asked malphus stepping forward.
It was then that we heard a roar echo through the night that reverberated through the air.
“For now we must leave, Captain if you be so kind as to release your brother we can all escape from this place.” Malphus said as he pointed towards Levirnius’ rock
