Chapter 11

We arrived into a large room that was reminiscent of a museum hall. There were painting covering the dark red walls, it was darker than I would have expected for a place that housed the most powerful and illustrious of Angels.            We were greeted by an angel of large stature. He easily stood close to seven foot tall, and was far more intimidating than any other angel I had met. He spoke almost in a gruff monotone that was somewhat hard to understand.   “Welcome home Silas,” he said as a small smile broke across his face. It was almost creepy and unnatural for such a pleasant greeting to come from such an imposing individual.   “It’s good to be home Camael,”  Silas said back as he grasped forearms with the angel.   Camael turned his attention to me having to look down as his gaze met mine. His sheer size alone was intimidating, but the manner in which he stared at me made me want to quiver. I held my ground though, I kept my back straight and managed to fumble out , “Hello.”   “Captain Miller,” he grunted as he turned and started walking down hall behind him.            He didn’t say another word as he led us down the corridor into what looked like a waiting area. Our swords clanking of our armor as we walked. In each of the corners of the room there were mirrors and the large oak looking double doors were being guarded by two angels that looked similar to Camael.   “Raviel will be with you soon,” Camael said as he turned around and walked back down the corridor.   Silas and I were the only ones waiting, I saw this as an opportunity to ask Silas about Camael.   I began to open my mouth but I was cut off by Silas, “This is not the time,” he said as he sat stood in front of the giant doors and closed his eyes.   I took my place next to Silas in front of the doors waiting to go inside. The guards in front of us did not move or make any sound whatsoever. We stood in silence for what felt like days, I took this time to calm myself and focus my thoughts so I could be as clear headed as possible. I wondered what kind of angel we would be meeting, seeing as how I was always taught that even meeting an Arch-Angel was almost impossible.   The silence was broken by the guards who spoke in unison.   “Raviel will be with you shortly, take some time to prepare your ward.” They said turning their heads towards Silas, who bowed and started to back away from the door, grabbing the back of my armor.   He turned me to face him directly but was close enough that his voice was barely a whisper.   “John, I do not need to remind you of the gravity of being in the presence of their Lordship,” he started saying, “do not gaze upon Raviel, when we enter your eyes are at the ground, just follow my lead.”   I began to ask a question but Silas silenced me.   “Give him the proper respect as you would a king,” Silas continued, “Raviel is the equivalent to a king, the Dominations oversee all angels in the  Second and Third Spheres, all in order to carry out the will of God, if you offend them you offend Him.”   I nodded my head in agreement and we turned back to face the doors.   Once we were in place the guards turned and opened the large oak doors and ushered us inside. The room was dark but even though I was staring at the floor I could still feel the warmth of Raviel’s light as it washed over me. Silas led me forward for quite a ways and we stopped somewhere near the other side of the room. I saw Silas kneel and so I followed and dropped to one knee.   “Silas, Son of Cassiel, House of the Morning Star, The Slayer of Nobles, welcome home to the kingdom of heaven.” A soft spoken voice echoed as it reverberated off the walls and inside my chest.   “My Lord Raviel,” Silas said with his head still held down, “it is good to be home, and even more an honor to be in your presence.”            I couldn’t believe my ears, Raviel said that Silas was from the House of the Morningstar. Does that mean that Silas and I are related, is that why Silas pushed to be my mentor? These were things I could ponder later, I had been brought out of my thoughts when Raviel spoke again. “John, Son of Lucifer, House of the Morning Star, welcome to the kingdom of heaven,” the voice echoed again.   Silas nudged me ever so slightly, so I thought of what to say.   “Lord Raviel, I am truly honored to be in your presence as well as in the Kingdom of Heaven.” I said confidently not taking my eyes of the floor.   “It would seem that we are in quite the conundrum on your continued existence,” the voice said softly.   A chill ran down my spine, I had no idea how to take that statement. However I did as I had been told by Silas and said nothing.   “Rise and meet my gaze,” the voice commanded slowly.   “My Lord Raviel,” Silas gasped immediately, “is that wise considering his human construct.   “He will meet my gaze or burn trying,” Raviel said forcefully.   Silas and I both rose to our feet and raised our heads to face Raviel.   As I laid my eyes on Raviel I felt a searing pain in my body and I collapsed to the ground. Silas remained where he stood, unable to do anything. The pain was almost unbearable, every inch of my body screaming to escape. My eyes locked on the door and I started to move towards it but as soon as I blinked there was a foot in front of my face.   Raviel kicked me onto my back, the warmth of the light emanating from him caused the pain to be excruciating. I tried to escape it but I had nowhere to go. Inside my mind I could hear Norma Jean crying out to me, which only made the pain worse. I could not open my eyes but I knew it was him.   “The feeble state of the human body,” Raviel said as he chuckled to himself, kneeling down so he could whisper into my ear, “fight it john, tell yourself you are an angel, feel the protection your will and soul give you and you will be free of such pain.”   I did as Raviel said and fought back against the pain, I began to draw upon my Will in order to protect myself telling myself. The pain didn’t subside but I was able to somewhat protect myself from Raviel’s light. I told myself that it was nothing because I was an angel.   “Ah, see there we go, now get up,” Raviel said as he began walking towards Silas.   I managed to pull myself to my feet and regain my composure a little. The pain from the light was little more than nauseating at this point.   “It’s a curious thing when a Nephilim comes before me, it’s almost as if you are reborn in a sense, some have appeared in this chamber and are instantly destroyed because they are not enough angel and too much human,” Raviel said making a little gesture as he walked past Silas.   “You however, seeing as how you are the son of the Morning Star, are capable of withstanding the pain.” He said turning back towards me and Silas, he paused for a moment just staring at the floor and stroking the end of his short beard and then looked back at us, “Oh right, my light,”   Raviel waved his hand and the light that was emanating from him went away, all the pain I was feeling instantly vanished and I felt fine again.   “Apologies Nephilim, however I had to know if you could even be close to handling the light of the Seraphim, however it would appear not,” He said very bluntly, “so that means this matter falls to me.”   Raviel walked back towards me and stood only a few feet away with his hands behind his back, standing directly in my eyesight allowing me to get a good look at him.   He was rather tall and skinny, but had certain authority in his presence, his pale skin and blonde hair were backgrounds to cold piercing blue eyes.   “So what do we do with you,” He asked crossing his arms and shrugging his shoulders.   He then walked over to Silas and got only a few inches from his face, “You, Dominion, I have indulged this childish fantasy for long enough, trying to raise half breeds to fight alongside us.”   “My Lord Raviel, if I have done something to anger you, please allow me to be punished, do not incur your wrath on the Nephilim,” Silas said as he kneeled back to the ground.   “You will be quiet,” Raviel hissed as he bent over Silas, “Never before, in all of Creation, has any Third Sphere Angel had a Commandment ability that would destroy us all, and on top of that he is a Destruction angel as well.”   “My Lordship?” Silas asked raising his head to meet Raviel’s gaze. There was a pause as Raviel stared at Silas and clicked his tongue.   “Dominion,” Raviel sighed, “you must understand the potential ramifications of allowing such a creature to continue existing?”   “I do your Lordship, but what do the Thrones have to say on this matter.” Silas said calmly as he continued to stare at the floor.   Raviel tensed up a bit as Silas mentioned the Thrones and then turned his eyes to me.   “Tell me Half-breed,” He said moving to stand in front of me, “do you understand why this is an issue that you are both a destruction angel as well as bearing the commandment ability that you do?” “I imagine, your Lordship,” I started to say, but I stopped and met Silas’ eyes who nodded, “I imagine, that being a half breed who can control others and destroy at will would cause several problems for the rest of Creation.” Raviel nodded, “so you understand the potential issues should you decide to, oh I don’t know, become a renegade.” There was a sinister look on Raviel’s face as he said the words. All I could do was nod in agreement. Raviel, pulled his hands behind his back and turned, walking towards an elevated platform.   “There is a question circling the First Sphere on your ability to control yourself,” Raviel said loudly as he turned back to face us.   “Your abilities as a Destruction Angel, as well as your commandment are not the only factors at play here,” he said as his face bore a grim look, “The fact that you are a half breed draws the question of you controlling your human emotions.”   He paused for a second as he turned his head and looked back over his shoulder.   “Nephilim,” he said turning his head to the front, “I wonder how well you could control yourself should you, be in trouble.”   He motioned the two guards on the wall and they appeared behind me.   “You will undergo Trial,” Raviel stated.   “My Lordship,” Silas said rising to his feet and stepping forward, “The Nephilim lacks the knowledge for Trial, as his Representative I will object to Trial.”   Raviel turned quickly and stared Silas in the eyes only mere inches from his face, “You will retract this objection Dominion, should you interfere with this Trial I will obliterate the Nephilim on the spot.”   Silas stood like a statue for a moment but took a breath and nodded.   “Good,” Raviel said as he turned back to face me, “Now Nephilim, the guards will escort you to the hall where you will face Trial, should you fail the First Sphere has granted me authority to destroy you, should you pass, I have been given instructed to let you go free.”   “My Lord Raviel,” Silas said, “I request that I escort the Nephilim to the hall.” Raviel thought for a moment and then nodded waving off of the guards who returned to their spots on the walls.   “I will grant you this request Dominion,” Raviel said as he adjusted the sleeves on his suit, “However if you are trying to allow the Nephilim to escape my wrath will not be contained by your destruction alone.”   Silas nodded as he bowed to Raviel, he motioned for me to follow as we backed ourselves towards the door. After leaving Raviel’s hall I finally was able to ask Silas what was going on.   Silas didn’t say anything nor would he respond to my questions as we made our wat to the hall for my Trial.
