Chapter One: My way Home

*Juni POV*

I dreamily look out of the window while my friend Franny goes on about how excited she is to finally be moving back onto pack lands. We just graduated from UW yesterday and today, with the help of my mother, we packed up the car and began the drive back to the mountains. My name is Juniper Stone and I am the 20-year-old daughter of the beta at the Celestial Blood Moon Pack located in Washington State. We are one of the largest packs in the country and the top 3 wealthiest. Our Alpha, Xavier Kade, has done incredibly well with business in the human world and has been very wise with pack investments. Although we gain our wolves at the age of 18, in our pack you don't find your mate until you're at least 21. 

“Juni! HELLO!! Franny said while waving her hand in front of my face. 

I gently slap it away. 

“What! What! I'm here! What were you saying?” I look at her with a confused face.

She groaned, “Ugh I said are you excited about tonight? The Bonfire? Your mom said basically everybody is back already! We're the last ones to make it home.” 

“Oh, yeah! I can’t wait to see everybody. I can’t believe it’s been two years already.” I say as my mind drifts off...

*Flashback*

“You better call us all the time dude! I mean it!” Kaz shouted as I threw my stuff in the trunk. As my best friend, you’d think that was a no-brainer.

“Duh! Who else am I going to tell about all the hot guys I get to f**k!” I say with a wink. He crinkles his nose and throws his hands up in disgust. 

“Ugh!! Keep that s**t to yourself! But if you find yourself f*****g a girl, don't forget to facetime me.” he says with a chuckle and raised eyebrows. I walk over and slap him on the back of the head. 

“Keep dreaming Kaz,” I say as he pulls me into a hug. “Besides, we both know I'm going to get my MBA. I doubt I’ll have much time for any risky behavior.” 

He chuckles and pulls me in tight. 

“I'm gonna miss you Beaut. It’s too bad we’re not going to the same school.” he said, almost sounding sad. I roll my eyes.

“I hate it when you call me that! And relax, we’ll only be a state away and we can always meet up at games!” I say with a smirk. “Just be sure to bring any cute guys you happen to meet.” 

“Jeez, can’t keep it in your pants for five seconds I see!” he jokes as I walk back to the car. “Oh wait! Germ, Taylor, and Eli told me to tell you they were sorry they couldn’t make it to see you off, but they promise to be here when you get back.” He shouts after me. 

“Yeah, yeah! Tell them a phone call would have been nice at the very least.” I shout back. 

I silently roll my eyes as I get in the car. I was a little hurt that my friends didn’t show up to see me off but I knew they were busy with their own school stuff. At least Kaz was there for me. He always was. I was really going to miss him. 

*Flashback over*

“Juni? Juni!! OH MY GOD JUNIPER!”

“Huh? What?” I come out of my daydream to a very annoyed-looking Franny rolling her eyes. 

“You never listen. I asked you when was the last time you spoke to Kaz?” she said very matter of factly. 

“Oh, my bad. It’s been a while. He stopped calling me after his birthday last year.” When his birthday passed and then so did a few more weeks with no mate or mate pull in sight, he took it really hard. I tried to tell him to just be patient but he wasn’t having it. He stopped calling me and then eventually stopped responding to me altogether. I was so hurt. 

“Well, who knows, maybe he finally found his mate! I just really hope you guys can be friends again. What even happened?” Franny asked with a puzzled look on her face. 

“We were both just really busy and didn’t have time to see or talk to each other. We basically just fell off.” I lie as my mother and I lock eyes in the rearview mirror. She knew how badly it hurt when Kaz ghosted me. I called her and cried for days. I told Franny that I had the stomach flu and she stayed with her boyfriend for a week. We’re good friends and roommates but I don’t like anyone seeing me that vulnerable. Even my wolf Kaia blocked herself off from me and hasn’t made a reappearance since. It’s not like he was our mate; Kaz and I are just friends but I love him just the same. We’ve been best friends for as long as I can remember and the last year has been the longest we’ve ever gone without speaking. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t almost break my heart. I wanted to be mad, but all I could feel was nervous excitement and the hope that he missed me as much as I missed him.

I looked over and Franny was typing away on her phone. Her latest boy toy was probably upset about her moving away so soon after graduation. Even though we grew up together in the same pack, we didn’t really get to know each other until we became roommates in college. She was beautiful with red curly hair, deep green eyes, and small pouty lips. She had olive skin and was a few inches shorter than me with a plump round ass and ample c cups. I, on the other hand, had tight chocolate curls and deep tan skin. My eyes are hazel green and change depending on how the sun hits them. My lips were plump and my mouth was a little bit bigger than Franny’s. I was of average height, but a little taller than her too. My breasts were almost as big as hers but my ass was big and round and I had the thighs to match. 

“We’re here!” I hear my mom sing out. “You’re staying at the packhouse with us tonight aren’t you Francessca?” She asked as we all stepped out of the car. 

“Yes ma’am!” Squealed Franny, excited to finally be home. She grabbed her bags and ran behind me into the large packhouse and up to the third floor which was reserved for the beta and his family. The First floor of the packhouse held conference rooms, a gym, the kitchen and cafeteria, and other miscellaneous rooms. The second floor housed the Gamma and his family on one side and several guest bedrooms on the other. The fourth floor held all the offices for ranked members as well as a private gym and sauna. The fifth floor was the largest and was reserved for the Alpha and his family. Every room in the packhouse was soundproofed for one reason or another. Werewolves could really get rowdy. 

We reached my large bedroom, dropped our bags, and ran to the massive California king bed sitting in the middle of my room. We giggled as we started jumping up and down. I missed my bed so much. It was good to be home. Since we were the last to come home, everybody else was already in their rooms getting ready for tonight. 

The Alpha decided to throw a welcome back bonfire for all of the Wolves coming home from college. Some of us, like myself, had been gone for a few years so it would be nice to get everybody back together again. 

“What are you wearing tonight Juni? I think I'm going to go with my high-waisted jean shorts and a white lace crop top.” She stated while pulling item after item from her suitcases. 

“Umm, I'm not sure. Probably just some Shorts with a cami and flannel. I’ll probably bring my UW hoodie along just in case.” Werewolves don't really get cold but It was more of a security blanket than anything. I was still unsure of how Kaz would react to seeing me again. I bit my lip while deep in thought. 

“Earth to Juni! You keep spacing out like that and I might have to do something drastic!” Franny says with a mischievous look. 

I squint my eyes at her with a sly smile. 

“Oh yeah? Like what?”

“Do you need some reminding? She asks while slowly walking up to me. Although I mainly date men, I am just as attracted to women and Franny knows this all too well. We’ve had our moments but Franny doesn’t date women. She just likes to experiment and has really only done so with me and a few others. 

“Do we have time? Aren’t we already late?” I look down at my phone to see the time and a new message. I see we have half an hour before we have to be downstairs and leave the message for later. My eyes go dark and I smile.

I push her up against the wall and my lips find hers. One hand goes to cup her breast while my fingers squeeze her n*****s making her moan in delight. I grab my clothes and my phone and head to the shower in my bathroom so I can clean up and get changed for the bonfire. I feel my phone buzz as I look into the mirror and smile. Tonight is going to be fun I think to myself. I look down and open my messages and my heart stops. 

KAZ

Hey, I heard you were back home. Will you be at the bonfire tonight?

KAZ

Can we talk? I miss you… 

I almost can’t believe my eyes. I send back a quick text 

Hey umm, yeah. I just got back. Me and Franny are upstairs getting ready. 

I'll be down in 15. Meet in the main conference room?

I hop in the shower and by the time I get out, there's a message on my phone. 

KAZ

Ok, see you in 15

I finish drying off and put my clothes on. I look in the mirror satisfied. The jean shorts I have on hug all my curves in the right places and the black and yellow flannel I have on makes my skin pop. I fluff my curls out and add some hoop earrings and complete the look with some mascara and pink sheer gloss. I give myself a wink and head into my bedroom where Franny has cleaned herself up as well and gotten ready. We look at each other and both of our eyes flash black. We burst out laughing because we know that means both of us look good enough to eat. When the laughter subsides, I get serious for a moment. 

“Okay okay, we need to talk for a sec.” I say as seriously as possible while trying not to laugh. 

“Okay, shoot,” Franny giggles. “What’s up?” 

“So, Kaz texted me.” I said biting my lip

“OMG!! WHAT?? When?!” She asked 

“Literally right before we did what we did. I saw I had a message but never went to check who it was from until I went to take a shower.” I said 

“What did he say?” 

I pulled out my phone and showed her the texts. 

“Awwww!! He misses you! See! I told you everything was going to be okay!” She said with a big smile.

“I guess,” I say hesitantly. “I don't know. But either way, I'm about to find out. I have five minutes to get my ass down to the conference room. Can you meet me outside? I’ll mindlink you when I’m done.” I say with a sigh. 

“Yeah, of course, hun! Take all the time you need!” She smiled and gave me a hug before heading downstairs herself. 

I took a deep breath, grabbed my hoodie, my phone, and my lip gloss and made my way down the stairs and into the main conference room. When I opened the door and walked in, I couldn't breathe. 

*KAZ POV*

I moved back home a month earlier than planned. I couldn’t stand to be there anymore. I had damn near slept with every girl on campus and I was sick of the place and myself. I didn't care to walk the stage and asked for my degree to be mailed out.  I couldn’t believe I let myself go so crazy last year. My wolf Orion was furious with me and had long ago blocked himself off from me. At the very least I still graduated with honors but I still had no mate and had even driven away my best friend. Juni…Now all I did was train and work with my dad on pack matters and try to put what I just learned at school to good use. Because of that, this last month flew by. 

“Yoohoo!! Aye man! Where’s your head at?” Asked my friend Germ. After Juniper, he was the closest thing I had to a best friend and he decided to skip graduation and come home early with me too.

“My bad man, I was just deep in thought.” We headed to an early morning training session. Once we got there, we said hey to Trainer Lewis and began our 20 mile warm up. Once we’ve completed our combat training, we head back to the packhouse to shower and go help my dad with anything he needs. Although I have my wolf, in our pack the next alpha can’t take over until he’s at least 25 or mated. And I am currently 21 and unmated. When we get to my dad’s office on the fourth floor, he is finalizing the arrangements for tonight's bonfire with his Beta, Samuel Stone. When he sees me enter, both my dad and Beta Stone grow silent. Beta Stone clears his throat and excuses himself to leave making sure that everything will be in order for tonight, but not before shooting me a cold glare. Can’t say I blame him. My mom heard from Juni’s Mom how upset she was with me. I just hope she can forgive me. I can’t lose her AND be mateless. I would truly be miserable. My dad nods for me to come forward and addresses both me and Germiny. 

“You boys have been doing an excellent job helping me keep things in order around here since you’ve been back. When the time comes, you will make an excellent Alpha and Beta but I look forward to continuing working with you until then.” He says with a sincere smile. 

“Thank you Alpha.” We say in unison.

My dad Chuckles.

“No need for the titles, son. Why don’t you both take the day off? Find your friends and relax until the party tonight.”

Germ and I look at each other. 

“Really Sir? Germ asks.

“Absolutely! Besides, it’ll give Kaz a chance to figure out what he’s going to say to Juni when he sees her. She’s on her way home right now.” He says with a sly grin. I just stand there wide eyed. 

“She’s… on her way… here?” I ask hesitantly. He nods his head and holds back laughter.

“Oh, shit.” I groan to myself. Only my dad would make this into a joke. He knows exactly how nervous I've been. Now the time is really here. I have to talk to her. We leave my dad’s office and head to my room. 

“I can’t believe you ghosted her man.” Germ sighs, “She’s gonna freak when she sees you.”

“Oh shut up. I’ll handle this” I say halfway, not believing myself. 

We hung out in my room for a while playing Call Of Duty before going downstairs for some lunch. On the way there, we ran into one of the pack sluts. She immediately started throwing herself my way. 

“Heyy Kazz” she said, putting emphasis on the last letter of each word. 

“Can I help you?” I ask, annoyed. 

“Maybe.. Or maybe I can help… you..” she said the last word while trailing her finger down my chest and I shivered in disgust. 

“I would ask you to make me a sandwich but let's face it, there’s no telling where those hands have been and I’d rather not catch any STD’s today. So no thanks.” She scoffed as I pushed past her. 

“Jeez man, harsh much?” Germ chuckled. 

“Nah man, I just really don't have time for bullshit anymore. I'm tired of the easy lay, I just want my mate or at least something close to it.” I say with a sincere shrug.

“Fair enough. Maybe you really have changed for the better. Although I’m definitely going to miss my wingman!” He says and we both laugh into the kitchen. We see an omega and flag her down for some sandwiches and chips. While we’re waiting, my future Gamma Taylor and his mate Kristina walk in and sit down. 

“Hey guys, what's up!” Taylor asks with a goofy smile. Ever since he met his mate, he’s been a mushy love-filled mess. He came to visit me at school for a game and my girlfriend at the time brought Kristina along as well. They were from the same pack. The moment Taylor and Kristina saw each other, they were each other’s own world. Kristina transferred schools to be closer to Taylor and moved in with him as soon as she graduated. She will be joining the pack this year too. 

“Nothing much, my dad gave us all the day off so we were playing some COD in my room. Want to join after lunch?” I asked with a shrug. 

He looks at Kristina and she laughs. “You go ahead, I have to go check on my mom anyways. She’s been feeling sick lately.” She gives him a quick kiss and heads out of the packhouse to her parent’s cottage. The omegas bring our plates filled with sandwiches and chips and we grab a few Gatorades from the fridge, then head back upstairs to my room. We eat and play video games for a few hours. The bonfire starts at 7 but my dad wants me downstairs at 6. I wonder if Juni is here yet... I look up and it’s 5 o’clock on the dot. 

“So I heard Juni came back today…” Taylor says. “Have you talked to her at all man?” 

“Of course he hasn’t!” Germ chimed in. 

“You both need to leave me alone. I will talk to her when she’s ready to hear me and there’s no telling when that’s going to be.” I say sadly. I throw my controller on my bed and walk to the window. 

“Just text her and ask to talk. Start small. She’s still your best friend dude. You’re the only one that switched up. Apologize.” Germ stated and Taylor nodded agreeing. 

“Fine.” I pulled out my phone, opened a new message, and started typing. 

ME

Hey, I heard you were back home. Will you be at the bonfire tonight?

I waited and for 10 minutes there was no response. I started to panic. I sent another, this one a bit more desperate. 

ME

Can we talk? I miss you…

Another 5 minutes and nothing. My heart almost couldn’t take another moment. Then my phone vibrated. 

JUNI

Hey umm, yeah. I just got back. Me and Franny are upstairs getting ready. 

I'll be down in 15. Meet in the main conference room?

I immediately text back 

ME

Ok. See you in 15.

I can’t believe it. I finally get to see my best friend again. I freshen up, put on a clean change of clothes, and head downstairs to the main conference room telling the guys I’ll meet up with them later. Ten minutes later I hear the door open and I see Juni.. finally. When she steps into the room my heart stops. Damn, she looks good.
