Secrets

Chapter two

I stare back at him, then remember the hand; I start to shake it when this image pops up behind my eyes. People dying and Tamani, drinking their blood; once he is done with them, he sets them on fire. I gasp as realisation dawns on me, he sent those letters; he sent me here to this mysterious place. He is the secret that I needed to find out, all I need to do is find out what his secret is.

"you're the one who sent me here, you know who and what I am; you were watching me, why"?

My curiosity gets the better of me, I just had to ask. He doesn't answer straight away, he just smiles his half smile and then says.

"because I heard about your parents burning in their house, but nobody could find out what had caused it. But I knew straight away that your parents had started it, but what I didn't get was why they were practising magic in the house, when most people would do it in the backyard under a glamour spell. So, I started to wonder if it really was an accident, but on purpose. I started to watch the twins, at first, I thought I had gotten the wrong address, but then I saw rose bring Tiana back to life; I knew I had the right kids".

Shock waves buzz the whole way down my spine, I brought Tiana back to life. She hasn't even died and anyway nobody has that kind of power. When would I have done that anyway? I don't remember, my train of thought stops because I do remember. The night that she fell down the stairs... Tamani knew straight away that I had caught on.

"but what I don't understand is, how. How did I bring her back to life, I haven't specialised yet and there is no power in the world that can do that"?

He smiles, a gorgeous full smile.

"you don't know, hmmm interesting. Well, I can say that you have specialised in something, well I wouldn't just say something; it's more like everything. Earth, fire, water, air and one that was once quite common amongst our people; it is called spirit."

My mind is spinning, I don't know whether to believe a man that I have just met.

"spirit can bring people and animals back to life, but it can also make you extremely dangerous. You see when you bring someone back from the brink of death, you are bound to them forever".

What in the world is this guy on about? If I didn't already half believe him, I'd have thought he was delusional, but for some reason everything makes sense. I did bring Tiana back from the brink of death and she and I are bound together.

"But there is an even bigger danger, spirit can make you aggressive and each time you use it. You become more and more fragile".

Tiana looks like she's seen a ghost and I feel like I am going to puke. I still don't understand why I can hear voices in my head, could that be a part of spirit?

"But what does this have to do with me hearing other people's thoughts all day, I thought only mythical creatures like vampires could read minds"?

The only mythical creatures I know of are in the novels I read. Tamani smiles and has a chuckle, I don't this funny at all and his laughter is not something I'm not very fond of at this point in time.

"Mythical vampires huh, then what am I; just a figment of your imagination and what are you, if not half vampire and half human. Vampire hybrid"?

Once again shock and confusion fill my brain, vampires aren't mythical? Well, what isn't mythical really, look at me and Dimitri and Tiana, we are witches and protectors. I guess I shouldn't really be all that shocked with this revelation.

"so, you're a vampire, I'm a hybrid. Does that mean werewolves exist and that venom can kill vampires"?

I read that bit in the stories I read, although I'm not too sure if it's real or not and if it affects hybrids. Guess I'm part human and vampire, that's not creepy at all. What don't I still understand though is why he sent me all those creepy notes and the necklace?

"Hey Tamani"?

My wavers as I try to say his name, but it's still got a little bit of unsureness in it.

"why exactly did you send me all those creepy notes"?

Both heads swivel towards me, oh right I forgot to fill Tiana on in that little detail. He stares at me in confusion.

"What letters, I never sent any"?

It's my turn to stare at him and then I pull out the notes. He starts reading them and mutters something under his breath that I couldn't quite catch.

Once he is done, he looks up and rubs his chin and tells us that he didn't write them.

"Then who did, I don't know you, you've been watching me and if I ran, you would most likely catch me"?

His eyes go from normal, to a deep dark scary looking red.

"you don't know me"?

That is a stupid question, of course I don't know him; I only just met him. I look at Tiana to see if she knows him, she shakes her head.

"of course, you don't, you were only little when we met, and I was an actual kid, who could visit dreams and who didn't have to use a fake identity every time he came back here. That kid was fun, maybe cool even".

A memory rushes back and nearly slams me to the ground. Wait! Now I remember, I was playing in the garden one day when the new kid moved next door. He came over and told me his name while his parents started unpacking their car, he would come over every day. We grew to be great friends, I told him that Dimitri and I had powers; that we are witches and he told me that he could go into people's dreams and his name was...

"Tamani"

His name comes out as a whisper. His head jerks up in surprise and I say in a louder voice,

"Tamani, oh how could I have ever forgotten you; you were my absolute best friend. I remember when you would always visit my dreams, even after our fights. Oh, it's so good to see you again, when you left without a goodbye and no more dream visiting, I thought that I would never see you again".
