### Chapter 9: The Turning Point The sun hung low in the sky, casting a golden hue over the small town of Maplewood. Emma leaned back against the worn-out sofa in her living room, her fingers gently tracing the outline of her growing belly. The past months had been a whirlwind of emotions, and now, as she entered the third trimester, the reality of impending motherhood began to sink in. It had been a week since her last visit to the doctor, and she couldn’t shake off the anxious feeling gnawing at her. She had always dreamed of being a mother, but now that it was finally happening, self-doubt crept in. Was she ready for this? Could she be the mother her child deserved? Her phone buzzed on the coffee table, interrupting her thoughts. It was a message from Lily, her best friend since childhood. *"Hey, just checking in! How are you feeling? Want to chat?"* Emma smiled at the screen, grateful for Lily’s unwavering support. She quickly typed a response, “I’m okay, just a bit overwhelmed. Can we talk?” Minutes later, the familiar sound of the doorbell echoed through the house. Emma rose slowly, her body feeling heavier with each movement.
