Saved?

New school

My alarm rings and I groan. Then I hear Sofia slowly shifting in bed next to me ‘is it already time for up up?’ She asks me. I nod my head and say ‘Good morning Sofia. Today you start at your new kindergarten are you ready for that?’ Sofia shakes her head and says ‘I dont want to start new again. Do I have to go?’ I look at her and give her a tight hug before saying ‘I know you hate starting new places but I am sure you are going to meet and make lots of new friends! How about I take you to the diner where I work after kindergarten and we have a milkshake?’ Sofia nods her little head and gets out of bed before running to the bathroom for her morning shower. I get her ready and give her some breakfast before we head out. The kindergarten is fairly close only a 5 minute walk luckily. I drop Sofia of but not before she makes my pinky promise that we go for that milkshake after, which I then do. I know have about 30 minutes to my classes start, which is plenty time considering the bus ride only takes about 10 minutes. I was lucky to find a high school fairly close to her kindergarten, which meant I didn’t have to take a detour.

As I get out of the bus in front of yet another new school I take a deep breath. All I want to do is lay low for the time being. It is my last year of high school and I just want it over and down with quickly. After I am done here Sofia and I could move far far far away from our dad, well unless Sofia really likes her kindergarten, then I won’t force her to change. I walk through the front doors and head towards the office to collect a map and my timetable. While i am in the office I hear to boys fighting right outside, but no one seems to be doing anything about it. I walk out there to stop them. If the teachers aren’t going to do anything then I will. I hate fighting! As I get out there I see one of the guys being Drake from work. Fuck.. he goes to school here? I tell them to stop, but they do not listen to me, so I yell ‘Drake stop it please’. He quickly turns towards me and lowers his hand, which was about to hit the other guy. Drake looks me dead in the eyes and then leaves without a single word. The other guy then turns to me and says ‘who are you?’ I then answer ‘I am Ella, but that’s not important. Why were you fighting with Drake?’ The guy looks me up and down before smirking ‘Well I am Josh, the football captain nice to meet you sweet Ella. Thanks for saving me from Drake who thinks I slept with his little sister and then didn’t call her back!’ I look at him and then say ‘Well did you?’ Josh’s looks at me with a questionable look so I go to say ‘Sleep with her without calling her back?’ Josh smirks and says ‘Well Ella that’s kinda how I do things, and she knew’. I shake my head while letting out a small laugh. He is such a play boy! Josh looks at me and says ‘Well Ella i am guessing you are new here, as I haven’t seen you before and I am sure I would have noticed you! So can I walk you to your first class?’ I blush a little with his comment then nod my head. He may be a playboy but I could use a hand finding my first class.

Josh looks at my schedule then says ‘looks like we will be seeing a lot of each other. We have most of the same classes. Come with me!’ I just nod then follow him. The entire walk to class we make small talk, but nothing to serious. As we get to class however I spot Drake sitting in there. Fuck.. I hoped I wouldn’t have any classes with him. After all I did kinda lie about my name for work. Arg why would the universe do such thing? The teacher walks in right behind us and looks at me ‘you must be Ella the new girl right?’ I nod but quickly say ‘Call me Em though!’ Both the teacher and Josh look at me weird and I say ‘That’s what everyone calls me!’ I have to make that stick to everyone now. I don’t want Drake finding out after all. Josh grabs my hand and leads me to a desk, before sitting down right next to it. He then signals to his friends introducing us. All the girls look at me like I should die. Well guess being friends with Josh is not the best option. The class continues and goes by real sticky quick. As I start to pack up my things Josh says ‘Well me and the guys have practice now, but Ella Ehm I mean Em please have lunch with us?’ I nod my head and before I could say anything they walk away. Guess they had to hurry. I finish backing up my stuff but before I can exit the classroom Drake appears in front of me. ‘I would stay away from him if I were you!’ I look at him and say ‘why?’ Drake just looks into my eyes then adds ‘I just would. See you at work tonight Em or is it Ella?’ f**k he knows.. Drake leaves before I can give an explanation or we’ll get to lie about my name. Well I guess tonight is going to be interesting.

The next class flies by too, but this time I make friends with Josh twin sister Lia. She is really sweet and we get along great. ‘Oh so you are the Ella I heard Josh and the others talk about. You made quite the impression on my brother!’ I look at her and say ‘why?’ She grins and says ‘nobody and I mean nobody have ever been able to stop Drake from hitting someone, not even the teachers or his little sister. You must be special to him and that makes you special to my brother!’ I once again look at her and ask ‘why though! I barely know Drake. Like I work with him that’s all!’ Lia looks at me with wide eyes ‘you work with Drake, girl you are so lucky! He is like every girls dream. The typical bad boy, I know my brother is up there too. That’s why they fight a lot. They both want to dominate. The where once friends though don’t know what really happened there. But yeah if Drake is interested in you so is my brother!’. I look at her and shake my head and whisper ‘So much for wanting to lay low ha?’ Lia let’s out a laugh then links her arm in mine and guides me to lunch. That means I will end up sitting with Josh and the crew as Lia is in that group. I don’t really mind though. Drake may have warned me? But I know Josh is a player and I know how to keep my distance to them. I fact I am not looking for love or a relationship of any kind. I don’t have the time!

School finishes and I had a relatively good day. I just can’t wait to see how Sofia has been getting in at kindergarten. Luckily I have the early shift at work, which means she can stay there while I work. She already told me this morning that she wanted to come with me. She that milkshake might turn into even more milkshakes but she deserves it no matter how her day has been. As I enter the kindergarten Sofia comes running up to me ‘Ella I made so many friends! Is it already time to go?’ I nod my head and help her get her jacket on. All the way to the diner Sofia keeps telling me about her day. I am so happy she finally has a place here she fits in. She made tons of friends, played so much and didn’t feel sad even once. I am so proud of her. We step into the diner and Drake is already there. Thought he only had to work tonight? Well this is going to be interesting. I walk Sofia to a booth and grab her a milkshake and something to colour on before heading out back to change. As I am changing into my work clothe I here Drake say ‘I wouldn’t pick you as a mother, but maybe you are a w***e? That’s why you didn’t mind Josh speaking to you?’ I roll my eyes at Drake and say ‘That out there is my little sister if you must know and can you turn I am trying to change here !’ I am after all only standing in my bra and pants. Drake moves closer to me. Almost to close to comfort. He scans my bare skin on my stomach, and I look down to see what he is looking at. f**k the bruise from last week isn’t completely healed..
