Sophia’s POV The silence in the room didn’t feel like peace. It felt like a storm that had decided to sit down and wait. I leaned back against the door after locking it, my hand still resting on the handle like I needed to make sure nothing else could follow me in. My chest was rising and falling too fast, my thoughts louder than everything else. Emily walked further into the room without saying a word. That alone felt… wrong. We never did silence. Not like this. Not the kind that cut. She dropped her shopping bags on the chair, one after the other, not gently, not carefully, just letting them fall like they didn’t matter anymore.
