The door clicked shut.
And the sound echoed louder than it should have.
I sat there.
Frozen.
Trying to process what had just happened.
A part of me wanted to be angry.
Another part of me wanted to run after her.
And another part…
Just felt tired.
“She just wanted to ease the tension,” I whispered to myself, trying to justify it. “That’s all. It’s awkward… everything is awkward…”
But the other voice in my head didn’t agree.
She left you.
Minutes later, I heard movement.
Doors opening.
Closing.
Voices downstairs.
Faint.
Distant.
Then…
Silence again.
I got up slowly and walked to the window.
Carefully pulling the curtain aside.
Peeking.
And there they were.
Colton.
Sean.
Emily.
Security already moving into formation.
Cars waiting.
