For a second…
I didn’t know how to feel.
The words were still hanging in the air.
Heavy.
Sharp.
Unapologetic.
This is the girl my son is willing to destroy everything for.
My chest tightened.
My fingers curled slightly at my sides.
And before I could even process it…
“Dad.”
Colton’s voice cut through the tension instantly.
Firm.
Controlled.
But there was something underneath it.
Something… dangerous.
“I won’t take that,” he continued, stepping slightly closer to me. “You invited her here to meet her. Not to throw words.”
The room stilled.
No one spoke.
His father didn’t react immediately.
