The next morning was utterly sunny, not a cloud was above my head over the sky. Anyone would say it was a splendorous day, and it was, even though I have wanted all night for it to be a cloud, even stormy, day.
My sister left early for her job. Today she wasn't meant to work, but she received a call from her boss, something about they wanting her to move somewhere else, I don't know, but even when she told me it was a great chance we both know there's less than 10% of probability for her to have it cause normally they don't use to send people to different places.
I spent grand part of my day working in a special project that I must deliver for next Wednesday, I prepared dinner for my sister and when I was done I headed to my room to read a bit. Sun was covered by clouds and the sound of thunder was heard at distance. After a while I heard the doorbell, I went down wondering who could be cause, of course, my sister had a set of keys.
I smile widely after opening the door, noticing Kay is at the other side, this time with a different jacket.
"Hey" I greeted her.
"Hi"
"I didn't thought you'd show up" she chuckles at my words.
"I didn't thought it either"
I invite her to come in and she did, stopping at our living room but I wasn't feeling like sitting on our sofa, so I told her to follow me upstairs. Once in we sat on my bed. She asked me if I was working on something as she noticed the pile of notebooks and papers over my table.
"Yes, I just finish a history project" she raised her eyebrows when she heard the word.
"History huh? You like it?"
"I do but I'm not good for telling it or even learn it in a proper way. My notes in the subject are not very good" she nodded "I see" she answered looking at my room not losing detail of its 'decoration', admiring every mineral and stone I had in it.
"You keep lots of fossils"
"Yeah, I like them a lot, they're my personal collection. You see the way other people collects cards or spoons? This is mine" She nodded, understanding.
"It's nice"
I excused myself making my way to the bathroom but in my way back to the room, I slump down with the floor carpet falling face first not having chance to interpose my hands. As I got up from the floor I felt blood dripping down my lip as my teeth had cut it. I wipe it out as I complain for my 'poor reflexes' and get back to my room, not knowing that it would keep on bleeding for a wile. But what happened when I entered the place I'd have never thought it might be possible.
"I thought you've gone to sleep but I then realized I was in your room so my previous assumption was wrong..." She hushed as she turned to face me. I was one, maybe to steps away from her. And I saw her factions as if air had been pulled out of her lungs.
She licked her lips just as someone would do when it's very thirsty. Her sight is over my eyes but she tries desperately to look anywhere else and it seems to me as if she has trouble breathing.
"Kay, are you ok?"
Before I can say anything else she pushes me against the wall grabbing my wrists with one hand over my head, her face and body merely inches away from mine. I could feel her breath against me as she opens her mouth and I noticed her fangs, knowing I've ever seen them before. She gently reaches my face with her free hand and lowers it to my neck placing it,finally, over my shoulder.
I see her eyes and something in them makes me feel fear but I know that's completely irrational, I know Kay wouldn't hurt me, but even, this scares me a bit.
Her breath is uneven.
Being so close now and looking at her it's more than obvious she's acting weird again, struggling with something, it seems to me she suffers.
Making an effort she closes her mouth and her jaw is tensed. She closes her eyes.
"No..." She barely whispers and puts both her hands on the wall, over my head. I wanted to know what was happening and I try to move.
"Just...don't" She whispers again.
Still eyes closed, she rests her forehead against mine, before getting her face down, letting out a sigh.
She handles to get more distance between us, now that she's not as close as she used to, I feel I know how to breath again.
"I...I'm sorry. Forgive me, Lauren. I should have never come..." Her face is up but her sight is on the floor. Even though I can see her eyes are reddish around her green iris.
"...not even into your life" I couldn't understand why she was saying all of that and when I stop trying to, I saw her turn and reach for the door.
"No, please don't go"
Just as she was opening it I pushed it close and stand between her and the door.
"What just happened?" She wouldn't look me in the eyes. I hold her face and make her see me.
"Kay, you can tell me, it's fine...tell me what's going on.
Your eyes are reddish, your breath isn't normal..."
I got closer to her and grabbed her arm.
"...and I can tell you're fighting with something I don't understand. Are you sick? Is that it?"
She chuckles sadly. Looking aside.
"It would be easier if I'll be. Forgive me. If there's someone I would ever keep a secret it would be you. But even if I'll tell you, you wouldn't see me as you do now. I couldn't bare that"
"You can't know that, Kay. No matter what you'd tell me or anyone, for that matter,..." I took a deep breath before telling her what I had only kept to myself "...my feelings towards you won't change"
Her reaction is spontaneous and turns slowly to face me.
"Your feelings? No, Lauren... You don't know what you're saying. You don't know what I am"
"Then explain me" she leaded me to seat on my bed while she stood up.
"I'm a monster"
