Imprisonment

Once inside Cresa the six were taken to the castle which was made of a dark, almost black stone. Arcaena, Celaena, and Shael were taken to one cell inside the dungeons. Theoden, Wyn, and Ayred were taken to another deeper in. The girls sat in silence for awhile, until a guard approached their cell "You, blondie, come with us." the man said. Celaena spoke "Which one? There are two of us." she said with a surprising amount of sarcasm. The guard entered and grabbed Arcaena, the other two girls began to protest until Arcaena shook her head no. She allowed them to lead her away. He took her up a large wooden staircase and into the castle proper, they entered a long hallway that was made of the same stone as the outside of the castle and wooden supports. The guard pushed her into what appeared to be the throne room. Inside sat the man with black hair and eyes "So I take it you're the king." Arcaena said. The man laughed "No, but close. I am Lord Bastian, though I hate the title." he said. Arcaena rolled her eyes "Why am I here?" she asked. Bastian approached her and touched her face, she tried to pull away but he grabbed her arm and held tight "You have been a thorn in my side since Asisari, I want to know how you defeated me, and killed one of my men in Ancestor wood." he whispered through gritted teeth. Arcaena finally managed to shake his grip "Magic." she said in the most condescending tone she could muster. Anger grew in Bastian's eyes "Obviously, but I've seen elvish magic before. That was different, more powerful." he said. Arcaena did not respond, Bastian moved closer to her again "I've killed your life mate; you have nothing left among the elves except pain and loneliness. Join me, with your power we could end this war in a matter of weeks." he said a cold smile growing on his face. Rage grew inside Arcaena "Never!" she spit out the word. Bastian returned her rage "Then you can rot alone in my dungeons for the rest of your days!" he yelled. The guard returned and took Arcaena away, he pushed her into a cell on the bottom floor of the dungeons leaving her alone. As she sat in silence she replayed Ailwin's death in her mind, she hadn't realized she killed one of the men that attacked them. She fell asleep running the events over in her head. When she woke she had no idea how much time had passed as there were no windows in her cell. With no way to tell Arcaena's mind turned to escape. She now knew most of this castle was made of wood, she just needed to use her magic to start a fire. Her only problem was she was still untrained and the only time her magic came out was when she felt extreme emotions. Arcaena did everything she could to summon her power, but nothing worked. She sat defeated wishing she had found the time to train with the elders before they were captured. Back upstairs Celaena and Shael were finding a way to communicate with the boys, they passed notes between each other through a vent in the floor. Two days passed this way until the guards came to each of their cells, they took Celaena leaving Shael alone, and Ayred from the boy's cell. A few minutes passed before the others heard Celaena's screaming echoing down the hallway, if Ayred screamed it was drowned out by Celaena. Theoden's moss green eyes began glowing, he did everything in his power to break out of his cell and get to his life mate. He tired himself out trying, he did manage to damage the bars of the cell before his magic and body gave out. A few hours later Celaena and Ayred were returned to their cells. Celaena fell into Shael's arms, her hair was a mess, the nails on each of her fingers were missing "What did they do to you?!" Shael asked. Tears streamed down Celaena's face, she couldn't bring herself to speak. Shael held her there for the rest of the night.
