Lia began to count each step she took until she would then see the sun peak out over the tarnished buildings. She would have preferred to be alone in this moment, as those who were around were truly up to no good. Whether it was obtaining nose candy or arranging for s****l companionship, none of it would help her escape these circumstances. There, in the unsettling and decrepit underbelly of the otherwise prosperous city, Lia fell her phone ring in her pocket. “Mom.” the name read over and she seemed stunned in this moment. Having grown up with a loving and caring mother, her first instinct was to confess to her. But she knew nothing good would come of it and so she placed the call to voicemail. However, her mother was persistent and didn’t cease until her daughter picked up the phone.
