Jack’s hand brushed against mine, barely. Softly. Like the universe was holding its breath. We were walking through the almost-finished office space... the one he’d practically gifted me like it was no big deal, like people casually handed out entire launch pads for your career just because they believed in your slightly unhinged ambition and thought you deserved to shine. The glass walls still smelled new, the lighting hadn’t been installed yet, and half the floor was covered in protective wrap. But I didn’t care. It was beautiful. Stark and promising and quietly humming with possibility. And he looked at me like i was the view. “It’s almost ready,” he said, voice low and quiet like it was meant only for me. “Just like you.” I made a weird sound... half laugh, half cough, all panic...
