Elara woke up burning.
Not from fever. From heat.
Three sources of heat were pressed against her. Hard chests, hard arms, heavy legs thrown over her. She opened her eyes and forgot how to breathe.
She was in the middle of the massive Alpha bed. The black silk sheets were tangled around her bare legs. Kael's royal cape — her only cover last night — had slipped open. Her grey servant dress was torn at the shoulder and chest from yesterday's marking.
And around her... three Alphas sleeping.
Kael was on her right, his ice-blond hair messy, one big hand possessively gripping her waist even in sleep. His face, so cruel yesterday, looked almost peaceful.
Rowan was on her left, his face inches from her neck, nose buried in her scent, his arm locked around her like a cage.
And Jace... Jace had his head on her stomach, using her as a pillow, his arm thrown over her thighs.
Three of the most powerful, feared Alphas in the kingdom, sleeping like children around a servant girl.
Lyra... what do I do? Elara whispered inside.
Her white wolf, Lyra, yawned lazily. Enjoy it. They are warm. And they didn't touch us last night. They kept their word. Good mates.
Good? They kidnapped me! They bit me!
They marked us. They claimed us. Now no one can hurt us. Feel that?
Elara focused. The three golden marks on her neck and collarbone were pulsing, warm. And through them, she could feel... emotions. Not hers. Rage. Possessiveness. Lust. And under it all, a deep, aching fear of losing her.
It was coming from them. Even asleep, their bond was screaming: OURS.
She tried to move. Jace groaned and tightened his grip.
"Don't... run..." he mumbled in sleep, nuzzling her belly. "Stay... Luna..."
Elara's face turned red like fire. "J-Jace! Wake up!"
Her small shout woke all three.
Three pairs of eyes snapped open at the same time. Ice-blue, golden-brown, and dark-grey. All looking at her. All instantly alert, instantly possessive.
Kael sat up first, his hand still on her waist. "Did you sleep?"
"I... I..." Elara pulled the cape tighter. "You promised you wouldn't —"
"We didn't," Rowan said, his voice hoarse from morning. He sat up too, but didn't let her go. "Did we, little mate?"
Jace finally lifted his head from her stomach, his hair messy, a lazy smirk on his lips. "No, but Goddess, it was hard not to. You kept wiggling. Do you know how hard it is to have your Luna wiggling between you in nothing but a torn dress and a cape?"
"JACE!" Kael snapped.
Elara was about to cry from embarrassment when a loud knock hammered on the Alpha Chamber door.
"YOUR HIGHNESSES! EMERGENCY! THE ELDERS ARE DEMANDING TO SEE THE GIRL!"
It was a guard.
Kael's face turned cold again in one second. The gentle Alpha was gone. The Crown Alpha was back.
He stood, his bare chest muscled, covered in battle scars. He pulled on his pants and shirt with fast, angry movements.
"They want to test her," he said.
Rowan stood too, putting on his black shirt. "They won't accept a White Wolf without proof. They will try to provoke her shift in front of the court."
Jace cursed. "If they hurt her —"
"They won't," Kael said, looking at Elara, still trembling on the bed. "Because she will show them."
He walked to the bed, grabbed Elara's chin, and looked deep into her brown eyes — the white glow from last night was gone, but he knew it was inside.
"Listen to me, Elara. Last night you were our little mate. Today, you have to be their Luna. If you show fear, they will kill you. The prophecy says a White Wolf either brings a kingdom to glory or to ruin. The elders are scared."
Elara's hands shook. "I can't... I don't know how to be Luna..."
Rowan knelt in front of her. He took her cold hands in his warm ones. "You don't have to know. Just be you. And if anyone touches you, Lyra will come out. I felt her last night. She is strong. Stronger than us."
He leaned forward and pressed a soft, lingering kiss on her third mark, the one on her collarbone. Elara shivered.
Jace came from behind, pulled her hair to one side, kissed the mark he made. "We will be right behind you. No one will touch a hair on your head. But you need to walk out there yourself. Show them you are ours."
Elara swallowed and nodded.
An hour later, the maids had dressed her. Not in grey servant dress. In a Luna dress. White and silver, tight at the waist, showing off her small figure. Her black hair was combed, her three golden marks glowing on her pale neck, impossible to hide.
When she walked into the council hall again, everyone gasped. She was no longer the dirty servant. She looked like a Queen.
Elder Mason stepped forward, holding a silver chain. A wolf trap.
"We need to test if she is truly a White Wolf, or a demon using tricks. Chain her with wolfsbane silver. If she is White Wolf, she will survive. If she is fake, she will burn."
The hall gasped. Wolfsbane silver burns even Alphas.
Kael growled, his claws coming out. "You dare?"
"I dare!" Mason shouted. "For the kingdom!"
Before anyone could stop him, he threw the chain at Elara.
Jace and Rowan roared and jumped, but they were too far.
The chain hit Elara's wrist. SSSSHHHH! Smoke. Burning flesh. Elara screamed in agony. "AHHHHH!"
But then — the smoke cleared. Her wrist wasn't burned. The silver chain had melted. Melted like wax.
And her eyes turned pure white again.
Lyra was awake. And she was ANGRY.
A huge, powerful wind blew through the hall, slamming Elder Mason into the wall. Elara's white dress fluttered, her hair flew, and a white aura exploded from her body.
YOU DARE CHAIN A QUEEN?
It wasn't Elara's voice. It was Lyra's voice, speaking through her mouth. Ancient, royal, deadly.
Every wolf in the hall fell to their knees again, heads bowed, whining.
Kael, Jace, and Rowan didn't bow. They stood behind her, their eyes full of pride, lust, and absolute obsession.
Kael stepped forward, grabbed the melted silver from the floor, and threw it at Elder Mason's feet.
"She survived," Kael said, his voice deadly calm. "She is White Wolf. She is Luna. And she is our mate. From today, any word against her is treason. Punishable by death."
He turned, picked up Elara — whose eyes were slowly turning brown again, exhausted — and carried her out, bridal style.
Rowan looked at the court, his voice quiet but terrifying: "And clean this hall. It smells like fear."
Jace just winked at the kneeling Lady Seraphina, who was crying with jealousy, and said: "Better luck next life, Seraphina."
Back in the Alpha Chamber, Elara collapsed into Kael's arms, shaking. "I... I thought I would die..."
"You will never die," Kael whispered, holding her tight, kissing her hair over and over. "Not while we breathe."
Rowan brought water. Jace wiped her tears.
For the first time, Elara didn't push them away. She leaned into their warmth.
And deep inside, Lyra whispered: See? We are home.
