Chapter 6:
“You can crash at the empty room down the hall. It’s the last door on the right. Well, not crash but actually stay or live for a couple of days.” Sam pointed once we finished putting away the dishes after dinner. I think I just lost my appetite after what Ashton said. So I stick to a large cup of coffee and some chips.
“I’m sorry Amber, but we really need to follow Ashton.” She said apologetically noticing my sadness and silence. I haven’t talked a single word since Ashton left, all I think about is how to escape here at the pit of the forest in the house of the werewolves. Sam seems nice and all but still she’s a wolf, if I ever get to her bad side I don’t know what could happen to me. She can literally shred me to pieces.
“Is he, ahmm…” I started feeling a lump on my throat caused by not speaking for long. I cleared my throat and tried again. “I mean is he the Alpha here?” I asked.
“No, he is Beta. Jaden is the Alpha and Nico is third in command. But when it comes to decisions Jayden always trust Ashton and lets him lead most of the time.” She answered. So the Alpha is under the Beta’s command, so sweet. Jaden looks friendlier than Ashton. Sigh.
“I’ll go to the room and try to have some rest.” I said anxiously.
I entered the room Sam pointed and switched on the lights. I was surprised to see a huge room with king sized bed at the center covered with light blue drapes. There’s a door which I guess is the bathroom and another for a walk-in closet. If I weren’t held hostage in this place I could have jumped for joy already having my own walk-in closet, which girl didn’t dream of that? I entered the walk-in closet and saw nothing but a crème painted walls and beige painted drawers, a vanity table and a full-length mirror. A knock on the door surprised me and Sam appeared from the door way.
“Hey, I brought some clothes for you, it’s mine and I hope it fits. I’ll ask Nico to take me to the town to do some shopping for you first thing in the morning.” She said. I walk up to her and get the clothes placing them neatly to the bed. “Thank you” I said smiling gratefully. She smiled back and leaves to give me some needed privacy.
I picked the clothes and decided to have a shower. My hair was a mess and I was covered with dirt. After a long shower I put on the clothes that Sam gave and sighed. She gave me shorts, short-shorts, a pink short-shorts to match a pink flowery tank top! Have I ever told you that I don’t do pink? But I guess I didn’t have a choice here. I sighed for the millionth time and got out of the bathroom. The bed was incredibly soft with matching baby blue sheets and pillows with butterfly designs. I was dead tired from all the events of today that I slowly felt my eyes getting heavy and the next thing I know I was out of it and darkness took over.
Birds chirping and trees are thrashing melodically. A ray of light touched my face and it caused me to open my eyes but shut it quickly at the sudden attack of light. I took a deep breath and slowly opened my eyes again blinking a few times to get used to the light. A small clock at the bedside table showed that the time is seven fifteen. I was weirded by the unfamiliar surroundings and remembered yesterday’s events. Oh shoot! And here I am hoping that it was all a dream. A bad dream. I stretched my arms and decided to start the day, my first day with the wolves, great.
I went to the bathroom and washed my face, I saw an unused toothbrush at the sink and brushed my teeth, Sam must’ve put it here. I brushed my hair and tied it into high ponytail and walked out the room. Strong aroma of coffee hits my nose the moment I entered the living room. There I saw the men having coffee and I smell bacon and pancakes from the kitchen. Looks like Sam is cooking for breakfast. How she managed to stay with these men is still a question to me. Ashton must have felt me and he looked straight to my eyes, holding me captured with his gaze and beautiful ocean blue eyes. From his left Jaden looked at me and the others followed.
“Hey little girl, morning,” Jaden greeted and all eyes are on me now. I looked around and saw that all men are looking at me lustfully. My cheeks blushed at their stares but it is not a good feeling. I was scared. Only Nico didn’t look at me the way the others are eye raping me. Ashton must have noticed my fear and he cleared his throat, it looks like he’s warning the other men species but not before he ran his eyes to my body. Is he checking me out now? The guys turned their eyes away and I breathe a sigh of relief. God, boys and their hormones!
“How was your day Amber?” asked Jaden who seems so eager to make a conversation.
“I’m good, like perfectly good. Who could not enjoy being hostage at the house full of wolves?” was my sarcastic reply. This earns a lot of snickers from the boys and Ashton glared at me.
“You should be thankful you’re not dead.” He stated irritation laced his voice.
“Or not served as breakfast instead of bacon.” Nico snickered playfully.
“Oh, why, thank you.” I rolled my eyes at him “Not to mention that I missed an important school day. And my Dad was probably freaking out already calling all the saints he can ask for help to find me.” I said rolling my eyes at him.
“News flash little girl, you being sarcastic and feisty can bring you to early death.” Ashton retort back.
“Stop scaring the girl Ashton, please.” Sam voiced filled the room all of a sudden. She must’ve heard the confrontation from the kitchen. Or I guess werewolves has heightened hearing.
“I’m fine, I’m not scared at all. Actually, I’m enjoying my stay here thank you very much.” I said to her, now where is my brain again? Why isn’t it functioning correctly? Way to push away the only friend that I could have.
“I’m really sorry Amber. We will find a way to let you go sooner.” She said.
“She’s not acting very nice so how could I trust her? So she’s prolonging her stay here as long as she’s stubborn and disrespectful to us.” Ashton grumbled.
“Do you at least have a tv here?” I asked changing the topic. Better act normal and accept my fate than to push someone else’s button. And when I say someone, I mean some cranky, grumpy, deadly human wolf.
“Of course we do! Let me take you to the theater room.” Jaden said excitedly.
“So wolves know about tv huh? But not internet, that’s pretty cool.” I said returning his friendly gesture. I heard Ashton scoffed and I saw him walking out of the room. So, what is his problem now? It is very clear that he hates me so what’s wrong with me being friendly to Jaden?
“Of course we know about internet, we just don’t use it for socializing with other people. We use it most for information and study.” He said. I smiled at him at least he is real friendly making conversations with me and not threatening to kill me anytime. “Here we go” he said opening a door and gesturing for me to enter first, such a gentleman.
The theater room consists of a huge wide screen TV, a stand full of game CDs and movies, a surround theater speakers and Wii attached to the TV. “Wow, so you really have a life huh?” I said grinning at Jaden.
“Well, sorta.” He replied back. “So what do you wanna watch?” he asked.
“I want to play COD!” I said enthusiastically,
“You serious?” he asked disbelievingly.
“Of course I am! Why not have fun when I have it right in front of me?”
“Oh, okay. But I’m warning you don’t cry if I won and kicked your sorry ass.” He challenged.
“You wish!” I said, and the game is on!
.
.
.
One hour and thirty minutes later.
“I’m going to kill you! You little evil!” Jaden shouted at the top of his voice. Well, that’s what he get after challenging me. He keeps on losing for the past eight rounds.
The door bursts open and the other guys filled the room in fighting stance.
“Is there any problem Alpha?”
“Is it a rogue?”
“Do we have an enemy?”
“Are we being attacked?”
“Wow, your guys must be very protective of you. Want to ask help Alpha loser?” I teased. He turned up his brows at me and faced the guys.
“No, we were just playing COD that’s all.” He said calmly. The guys relaxed and became interested with the game.
“Just so you know, your Alpha here keep on losing against your hostage little girl for eight consecutive rounds.” I stated proudly.
“No way!”
“That’s impossible!”
“She can’t be that good!”
“That’s hot!”
Okay I don’t like the last comment. I saw Nico smiling like i***t mocking Jaden. “Did you know that Alpha Jaden never lose at this game?” he asked waving the case of COD in front of him. “Well, only Ashton beats him.” He continued.
“So the grumpy old guy knows how to play?” I asked. Their eyes all bulged out of its socket and in three, two, one…everyone is laughing rolling on the floor. Did I say something worth dying for? It was like they’re having a panic attack, but they are just laughing uncontrollably.
“That. Was. Gold!” Said Max in between laughs. Max can have fun too, news flash!
“What the hell is happening here?” boomed an angry voice, and Ashton appeared from the door. He took in the sight questionably. His fellow werewolves are on the floor laughing like dying dogs and his Alpha was like crying trying to calm his breath.
“Oh nothing, just Alpha loser can’t win a game and some silly joke you don’t ever want to hear. Ever.” I answered for them. They all stopped laughing and started to stand and fix their stance.
“And what was that?” he asked. He really had a thick skull huh? I won’t tell ‘cause I don’t wanna die yet.
“Nothing, just nothing I swear” answered Jaden still breathing heavily.
“We were just amazed of how Amber beats Jaden at COD multiple times” Max followed.
“Yeah, that’s right.” Nico followed.
“Hey, whose side are you guys?” Jaden complained.
“Sorry Alpha but I think they are with the winning side, and that is with me.” I said proudly. I heard some snickers and some uttered ‘burn’.
“Pft, whatever.” Jaden scoffed.
“Enough already, what are you kids?” whined Ashton. Yeah, whined. He just jealous he’s not having fun just like us.
“I’m sorry” I said not wanting to be on his bad side. Not this early.
“Whatever.” He said. “Peter, Jake, Paul, make a shift at the patrol I need more fighters there. Max, Nico and Dan go to the human town and mind link me once you get there then I’ll give you some instructions. Jaden and I will stay at the house to do the training.” He commanded sternly. The guys followed suit and I was left with Ashton and Jaden.
“and as for you, stay home, do whatever but stay out of our way you get it?” he said to me like talking to a five year old.
“Like I have a choice” I frowned.
