Chapter 58

FERNO ANDILET Aleera's birthday was coming, yet I still didn't know what to give her. Should I buy her thousands of scrunchies? But she didn't use to fixing he hair. She was always like an old hag. Should I get her new apparel? But she had so many clothes in her wardrobe; I didn't know this because I had already seen her closet, but because I was aware her family had a clothing business. "I can't think of any," I told Gandor, who was facing the mirror; however, he didn't answer me because he was busy fixing his face. "Hey! Are you even listening?" I asked him. Gandor turned his gaze at me. "Are you talking to me?" he answered me with a question as he lifted his brows. "I've been mouthing here for how many minutes, yet you don't know it's you I am talking with?" He chuckled. "Sorry, I'm just amazed by my face, that's why your words aren't registering in my mind." Gandor was back to being a human face again. Every time he would see his look in the mirror, he wouldn't stop grinning. He wouldn't even talk to me even when he could hear me because his attention was all set to himself. I couldn't blame him anyway because he was gorgeous in his human look. I just didn't like it when he wasn't responding right to me— like this time. I was wasting my saliva for this dragon who had no intention of talking with me. With my frowned face, I planned to leave Gandor. However, I stopped walking away when he called me, saying, "You should give her the thing she doesn't have that she badly wanted." I turned around and looked directly at Gandor. "But I don't know that thing." I went back to my seat and crossed my arms. "She seems to have everything." "You should think clearly of it, well." I placed my hand at my lower chin and had taken time to brainstorm. I knew I was right to assume that she almost had everything; it didn't seem that she was still looking for a material thing in this world. Aleera was also full of love— either from her family or friends. She was rich academically as well, even though sometimes she was telling me she wasn't learning anything. She was prosperous in life, in money, food, clothes, in all of her necessities. If there was still a thing she was asking for, then what must be it? I didn't know. "Should I just ask her what gift she wants to receive?" I inquired to Gandor, who was still confronting the mirror. "That's the only choice I could pick of this time." "That's a big no," Gandor said. "If you ask her, she will not be surprised anymore. Then, your gift is complete nonsense. You should think of the best gift, I'm telling you." "But what if she doesn't like the thing I'm giving her?" "I don't think so Aleera is like that. You're always telling me of her, saying she's always grateful even in the smallest thing. Then, it's for sure that whatever you give her, it will be so much appreciated." I came to think of it again. Indeed, I used to tell Gandor stories about Aleera. I did not lie when I told him that girl was always grateful. Aleera was the kind of person who wouldn't let the time pass that she hadn't thanked the person who did a simple act for her. She would always say appreciative words to show how much she was happy with a person's little effort. There was some point that she would thank someone even if it was not applicable, and it was somehow annoying me. I didn't like sometimes the kindness that Aleera was showing the world. I warned her one day about it, but she just got mad at me. How would she always live in the light? It was boring. "Do you think she likes food?" I asked Gandor, but he just laughed at me. "Don't tell me you're going to give her food as a gift?" "Is it bad?" Again, Gandor laughed out loud. "Stupid dumb son of a b***h you are, Ferno. Don't you remember that you're going to attend a party? That means, on that day, Aleera will be having so many foods on their tables. There's no use of giving her one for she won't eat it, after all." "But, what if it's her favorite?" "Cut it," he said. "Your idea is so bad." I left Gandor, and just went to my room to think of other ideas. I couldn't do well when he was in front of me because all he would do was to chuckle in every of my opinion. I got so irritated because he wasn't helping in any way. Hours had passed but I still didn't have a final plan. I wanted to talk to Aleera's best friend, Ferelith, but I didn't know how to contact her. No one was going to help me if not her. On the next morning, when I arrived in Ragwarths, I immediately asked Aleera's classmate if they have Ferelith's contact number, but no one was responding to me. Everyone was still avoiding me, so I tried asking their teacher; she gave me what I was asking her, luckily. When I already know Ferelith's number, I abruptly did the best thing to reach her— to call her on the telephone. I thought she wasn't going to answer because minutes had passed, yet it was still ringing; but after some time, she raised the telephone. "Hello. Who is this?" she asked. When I told her it was me, I heard deep breathing on the next line. I thought she was going to end the call, but she just spoke again. "What do you want from me?" "Can you assist me on thinking of the best gift for Aleera on her upcoming birthday?" I asked her directly. "I know it's only you who can help me." A wide smile touched my lip when Ferelith agreed about it; however, she said we would only be talking for minutes because she had a class to attend. I had no choice but to concur with her statement. It wasn't a problem to me though because she would only be explaining what would and should I do. I had taken time listening to her until she was finally done speaking; but what she had told me just made me look dumbfounded. Was she even serious about that?
