Northwest of Corozal D awn was just breaking over the Caribbean when Sergeant Emmet Rea finished his final checks and signaled for the eight-man patrol to head west. On point was Staff Sergeant Fabian Castillo, introduced at the patrol briefing as one of the senior local NCOs assigned to Operation Martillo from the 2nd Battalion of the Belize Defense Forces. Rea backed him up in the formation carrying a radio and a GPS to keep them on track toward their objective which was about ten clicks northwest of the base camp. There were two BDF troopers following Rea, then Shake, Mike, and one more local soldier.
