Gustave Mackenzie's POV I couldn't stand her presence. So I left for Austin that night. My private jet was already waiting for me on the tarmac. I called my father; I needed an excuse to escape. "Dad, I'll travel first," I told him. "I'll get everything ready to receive you." I was lying. It was all to get away from that crazy woman who inhabited my family like a poisonous shadow. I've stayed as far away from her as possible. And now, finally, I feel like I'm back in control. One more week, I think. Just one more week and I'll be safe. I'm grateful that the jet the others are traveling on belongs to my brother's father-in-law. I don't intend to share even the air with her. When I land in Austin, I go straight to my apartment. My bodyguards are already waiting for me.
