Lady Eugenia was in the library, reading a copy of Pride and Prejudice, when Wolcott, their butler, came looking for her.
“Sir John has just arrived to speak with Sir Henry,” he informed her. “Sir Henry asked if you’d be so kind as to join them.”
“Of course.” She had some difficulty getting out of the chair, and Wolcott was obliged to help her. “Thank you. Where are they?”
“They’re in Sir Henry’s study, milady.”
“Thank you,” she said again and smiled. She waddled down the hallway. With a short time to go before the birth of her second child, she was feeling decidedly huge.
Sir Henry looked up when she paused in the doorway and gave her the smile he reserved for her alone. “Ah. There you are, my love.”
