Friday, as I battled weekend traffic, butterflies fluttered in my stomach as I headed out to meet Martin. It seemed traffic parted for me so I could not use it as an excuse to delay the final note to the end of our song. Pulling up to his apartment, I sat in the parking lot for a few minutes, steeling myself. As I unlocked the apartment door, Martin sat sitting silently flicking channels. It was a repeat of some many Fridays past, only this time I felt no sense of homecoming. Without a word, I put the engagement ring on the coffee table.
