~Chapter 7~ Promises.

1064 Words
I had absolutely nothing to worry about, as long as Daniel was with me. The two weeks were now coming to an end, and I grew sadder, as the thought of it came to mind. I didn't want this 'honeymoon like' phase with Daniel, to be over. Laura now walked around on her toes. She was now watching my every move. Many times she'd just sit there, watching me and Lana converse about things- and then her interest grew when it was about Daniel. Lana just dropped by a few times and left to sleep over at Paulo's place, leaving me alone with Laura. I didn't know if she was my roommates anymore, because she was barely around. I didn't like the idea of being alone with Laura, we literally had nothing in common. Turns out she only came to Quezon because she needed money from dad, and he gave her the option to come see me and spend some time with me, only then will he give her the money. Typical Laura. It was two days until Daniel leaves for the United States, and I was preparing to go to see Daniel today. I brushed my hair up, wore make up. I picked a beautiful red dress to wear today, since red was his favorite color. I was home alone with Laura, and we basically were minding our businesses. "Don't expect too much... " Laura breaks the silence, her head concentrated on her laptop. What does she mean by that? "What do you mean, I don't understand?" I hoped this wasn't about Daniel. "Daniel... " Laura not now. "He leaves in two days, you shouldn't expect too much from him, once he leaves." I was disgusted. How did she even find this out? She must have eavesdropped on my conversation with Lana. "And who do you think you are to tell me what to expect and what not to expect from my MAN?!" I was furious now. She stands up and walks up to me. "That's just men, Luna, they are not to be trusted." "Are you the one to talk?" I gave her this inquisitive look. "I don't... I don't mean to intrude in your personal business, but, you're my sister. As hard as it is to believe, I want what's best for you. You and Daniel are two worlds apart - you don't fit into his world." Again with this theory, can she give it a rest?! "Laura, you have no right -" "I know... " She throws her arms in the air, meaning her hands are off. "But, because you're my sister, I'd tell you. He's not the perfect man you want. Think of it, would he go there, and spend an whole year without you, and not find someone else?" She was talking gibberish, I know Daniel. As I walked out of the house, I couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions. I was excited to see Daniel, but Laura's words kept echoing in my mind. I pushed the thoughts aside and focused on the present moment. I was going to see Daniel, and that's all that mattered. I arrived at the designated meeting spot, and Daniel was already there, waiting for me. He smiled as he saw me, and my heart skipped a beat. He looked handsome, as always, and his eyes sparkled with excitement. "Hey, beautiful," he said, as he pulled me into a hug. "You look stunning today." I blushed, feeling a little self-conscious about the red dress. But Daniel's compliment made me feel more confident. "Thanks," I said, smiling up at him. "You don't look so bad yourself." Daniel chuckled and held out his hand. "Shall we?" he asked, gesturing to the car. I nodded, and we got into the car. Daniel started driving, and I couldn't help but notice how effortlessly he navigated the roads. He was a skilled driver, and I felt safe with him behind the wheel. As we drove, Daniel chatted about his day, telling me about his meetings and projects. I listened intently, asking questions and making supportive noises. But despite my efforts, I couldn't shake off the feeling of sadness that had settled in my chest. Daniel noticed my mood and asked me if everything was okay. I brushed it off, telling him I was just tired. But he wasn't convinced. "Luna, what's wrong?" he asked, his voice soft with concern. "You're not yourself today." I sighed, feeling a lump form in my throat. I didn't want to ruin the day by talking about Laura's hurtful words. But Daniel's persistence wore me down. "It's just... Laura said something to me earlier," I admitted, feeling a little vulnerable. Daniel's expression turned serious. "What did she say?" he asked, his voice low and even. I hesitated, unsure of how to repeat Laura's words. But Daniel's gentle prodding encouraged me to continue. "She said that I shouldn't expect too much from you, that you'd leave and find someone else," I said, feeling a little ashamed. Daniel's face darkened, and he gripped the steering wheel tightly. "That's not true," he said, his voice firm. "I would never do that to you, Luna. You're the only one I want." I felt a wave of relief wash over me, and I smiled weakly. "I know," I said. "I'm sorry, I just... it's hard not to think about it, especially with you leaving in two days." Daniel's expression softened, and he reached out to take my hand. "I know it's hard," he said. "But I promise you, Luna, I will come back for you. I'll finish my project in the States, and then I'll return to the Philippines, just for you." My heart skipped a beat at his words. "Really?" I asked, feeling a surge of hope. Daniel nodded, his eyes locked on mine. "Yes, really," he said. "And when I come back, I want to marry you, Luna. I want to spend the rest of my life with you." I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. No one had ever said anything so romantic to me before. No one, but Daniel. I didn't know what to say, so I just sat there, staring at Daniel in shock. Daniel smiled, seeming to enjoy my reaction. "So, what do you say, Luna?" he asked, his voice low and husky. "Will you wait for me?"
