Scolding

Memories of her warmth and her blood wetting his palate drew him back from the dream land. He wanted to wake her with a kiss. But when he rolled over she wasn’t there. He wasn’t even in their bedroom. He was in one of the guest rooms. He sat up and looked around. He felt like he had been asleep for hundreds of years and Josey was long gone. Panic and fear set in. He mind-linked with her but did not get an answer. He jumped from the bed and quickly made his way back to their room. The twins were standing outside of her door. When he approached, they stood in front of him. “I apologize to my King but protocol dictates that you are not to be allowed to see the Queen right now.” The twins spoke in sync. “What protocol?” “The one you put in place in case you were to injure the queen, per Lincoln.” Cofer took a step back with his mouth agape, loss for words. “I hurt  . . . What?” “Please talk to Lincoln. We are not  at liberty to disclose details of the events of the previous night.” Cofer’s lip curled up. He hated when the twins talked as if they were one person. To avoid conflict, he mind-linked with Lincoln to meet him in his office. “I’m already here waiting on you, my king.” Lincoln mind-linked back. “If Lincoln is in my office then I must have really f****d up.” cofer said to himself. He turned away from the twins and poofed into his smoke form. He hurried to his office. He was fearful of the conversations to come. When he arrived, he hesitated before turning the door knob. When he walked in, Lincoln was sitting on the arm of his recliner. His position screamed ‘I refuse to sit until we speak.’. “What happened?” he said quietly. “You will want to sit. I need you to stay as calm as possible.” Lincoln said while avoiding eye contact with him and keeping his arms crossed. “Just tell me.” “You lost your s**t. Normally I’m assuming that what you were doing to Josey would’ve been fine, if Sueli was present but she wasn’t. You almost tore her shoulder off and broke her spine and neck.” “Oh s**t. She must …wait..How are the babies?” “They are fine.  Our assumption is that Josey’s actions put you in a mood but also probably pissed you off. What do you think, MY KING?” Lincoln finally made eye contact with Cofer. His  anger came through clearly in his tone. His eyes glowed red as he stared Cofer down. “If you could not kill our queen that would be f*****g great!” Lincoln continued. He had never heard Lincoln talk like that before, nor had he ever shown his fangs towards Cofer. “Well. I can’t say you are wrong. I do remember feeling a combination of confused emotions before my trance. All we can be now is thankful.” “f**k that Cofer! Promise me! Promise our people you will not kill her!” Lincoln yelled then huffed. “Damn it! We are all already on edge after the vision of her fading away and what I saw in that room made me feel like this is it. She’s leaving us. I know you are angry at yourself right now. I know you are trying to play this situation down to keep from hating yourself. BUT I need you.. to.. do…. better. WE need her too!” Cofer looked down. He could feel a tear roll down his cheek. He couldn’t believe Lincoln was scolding him but he wasn’t wrong.  It wasn’t the first time he had almost killed Josey. Lincoln refolded his arms. “Until Sueli wakes and Josey is completely healed, we are invoking protocol 268. Don’t even try to mind-link with her.” He looked at Cofer with a silent stare. “Also we received the decree from Wilshana. I can guess what it is.” Lincoln handed Cofer the official letter. He broke the seal and pulled out the document. “I can’t say I didn’t see this coming” Cofer plopped down back on the sofa. “She’s going to take this pretty hard.” He stared down at the decree, trying to grasp their future. The decree signified the end. Sueli would not get her king and he would be left to embed his mother’s memories in a son he could only hold for his first year. The petty side of him thought, ‘Valin’s winning and he doesn’t even know it.’.   “I’m going back to my room. I will wait for your notification regarding the raising of the protocol.” He needed to get out of the room quickly. He could feel the anger and water works boiling to the top. Valin would get to live happily with his child. He would never know the love that he lost.  Once he reached his room, he slammed the door behind him. He climbed into bed. He had less than three months left with his wife. Cofer laid in the bed staring up at the ceiling.  “Sir, will you be taking dinner in your room?” Lincoln rang out in his head. “I will not be eating until the protocol is raised.” “But sir, that could be two, maybe three days.” “Then so be it.” He would rather starve than eat and casually exist as if his wife wasn’t suffering. —- Almost 4 days passed before Cofer received the notification from Lincoln. He didn’t sleep or eat.  His body moved as fast as it could to get to her side. When he walked in, the conjurer was removing her bandages. Cofer stood quietly by the door waiting for him to complete his tests. “Everything looks good. Stay in bed a few more days. No lovey dovey stuff.”, the conjurer said then laughed like a villain who had just revealed his plans for world domination. He walked around Cofer, who remained unmoved. He was at a loss for words. He was almost too scared to touch her. “Come give me a hug? I missed you.” Her voice sang to him. His bottom lip started to quiver as he searched for the best words to say at that moment. “Don’t apologize either. It's Sueli’s fault and she has spent this morning apologizing profusely. “ Josey continued. Everytime Cofer looked like he was about to speak, Josey spoke over him. “If Sueli and I were together, the s*x at that moment would have been game changing. Your d**k so hard. If my spine didn’t feel like it was cracked, I would’ve rode it while you were unconscious. Then if it remained hard, I planned on sucking it until it went limp.” She always knew what to say or do to get him riled up. He smiled and climbed in the bed next to her.  “I’m sorry. I stink. I haven’t done anything since I wasn’t allowed to see you. No bath, no food, no sleep, those things are irrelevant without…….. you.”  While he talked his eyelids became heavier and heavier until he couldn’t hold them open anymore.  Before he opened his eyes, he could feel the heart beats of his children against his stomach. He reached down and rubbed Josey’s belly. When he rubbed the top, her n****e grazed his hand. He quickly opened his eyes. She was completely naked. He wanted to bite down on her breasts and at least put his fingers inside of her.  “Damn doctor’s orders.”  With the news from Wilshana he definitely had to resume his search for the stone that day or the next. He had a lot of ground to cover and less than two months to do it. He memorized the features of her face while trying to figure out when he was going to drop the bombshell about her banishment. When he got to the small indentations in her cheeks, her eyes opened and she studied him. “Sometimes I wish I couldn’t feel your feelings. It seems to be easier to feel your sorrow than any other emotion.” A tear sat at the edge of Josey’s eye. “You don’t have to tell me. I heard a maid call for Lincoln to accept a delivery from Wilshana. Was I exiled?” She asked as the tear finally escaped the corner of her eye. Cofer just shook his head. He didn’t have the heart to speak. He pressed their faces together and they cried softly.
