14. I am going nuts!

1632 Words
One second my eyes were on Isaac aiming his gun at us, and the next second there was a crash. Confusing? Well, here’s the slow motion: while I was taking in Isaac’s gun with wide eyes, rooted to my spot; and while Alex was going on about something along the lines of ‘Stella’, ‘diaper change’ ‘washroom’ and while everyone else was still on the ice rink, oblivious to everything; Julia was finally able to pull Dylan away from the railing. And, this is what happened next: Dylan, of course, totally lost his balance, slid against the ice rink, flew out of the boundary and crashed straight into Isaac. For a moment, I couldn’t believe my luck. Dylan, the butthead, who put me through the whole ‘girlfriend’ crap, had actually saved us all. Because, now, Isaac along with his gun, was knocked off to the ground. Is it weird that I wanted to hug Dylan? But, whatever. I needed to focus now. I immediately, rushed towards them, sidestepping Alex. “What the hell is going on?” I heard him asking behind me, following my footsteps. But, right now, my eyes were set on one and only one thing: that damned gun. I just had to get to it and get it out of Isaac’s reach. But, before that could happen, a gunshot made me freeze. I turned my head in the direction of ice rink where my friends still were and my eyes landed on a masked man, holding a gun in air. I was sure that if no one had seen what happened between Isaac and Dylan, then, now they knew, because all eyes were on the masked man now. All eyes meaning, my friends because unfortunately for us, there was only a staff member present there apart from us. And, that staff member too disappeared through the cracks. I didn’t blame him. Bad things happened around me. While we were still taking in the scene before us, five more masked men appeared with guns. “I didn’t come alone, sweetheart,” Isaac leered from his position on the ground, groaning and reaching for his own gun. This was it. I was going down and taking others down with me. There was no way; we stood chance against so many men, who had guns on them. “What the hell? She isn’t your sweetheart, psycho!” Alex snarled and before I knew it, he was in front of Isaac, booting his face and kicking the gun far away from him. Then, he offered his free hand to Dylan and helped him up. Just when I was getting my hopes back again, there was another gunshot. My face whipped in the direction of the masked man who had fired the shot and who now yelled at us to, “Stay still.” But, I think he didn’t know that Blake didn’t do still, because, what happened next was, Blake did a brilliant twirl, reached the man, raised his leg and kicked his throat. After that, the whole scene transformed quickly in front of my eyes. Ashton, Cameron, Julia, Blake, Hailey and Millie, got engaged in a full blown battle with the masked men. After a second, Millie was pushed to the sidelines by Ashton and she headed towards us, grumbling under her breath. “Take her,” Alex said, handing Stella to me, “I will help them.” “Wait,” I stopped him, “listen, you guys need to get out of here. I don’t want anyone to get hurt. Here’s what we can do. I will distract them for some time, then-” “Crispy,” Alex cut me off. “What?” I asked, frustrated. This was not the time to talk. He needed to listen to my plan. “We are not leaving you,” he stated, “don’t worry about us. It’s nothing we haven’t seen before.” And, with that, he thrust Stella in my arms and went to the rink. What the hell? What did he just say? And, why were they all putting their lives at stake for me? “Hey, Kris, are you okay?” Millie asked, reaching me. Really? She was asking if I was okay? “Are you okay?” I asked her instead. To that, she scowled in the direction of the rink, “Ashton never lets me be a part of the actual fight. I like contributing my bit, but, he always pushes me to the side. He has no idea of the kind of fabulous techniques I have.” I could only look at her in bewilderment. Okay, these people were amazing, no doubt, but, they were strange. Like, who actually wishes to be involved in a fight? “Look, Stella wants to be a part too,” Millie continued. Now, that she pointed it out, I noticed how Stella was taking a keen interest in everything that was going on, and was actually yelling something in her gibberish language. “She’s saying ‘go get ‘em’” Millie supplied. Wow! Everything had started to give me a headache! A baby was braver than me. I was standing here pathetically, doing nothing, while my friends were fighting off men for me. “Oh my God! What is that smell?” Dylan’s voice came from beside us. Oh, I totally forgot about Dylan! He was the man of the match, after all. Millie rolled her eyes, “That’s Stella’s diaper which needs to be changed. But, these stupid morons had to interrupt.” Just then, my eyes fell on something in the ice rink. Or rather someone. Blake and Hailey were tackling a man to the ground, together, totally oblivious to the two men who were approaching them from behind. “Oh, no! We need to do-” “something,” millie completed my sentence, her eyes glued to the same scene. I was about to rush towards the rink, when Millie held me back, shaking her head. “We won’t be able to take them on our own. We need something, a weapon,” she told me. Dylan chuckled to this, “Why, Millie, did you leave your broomstick, spatula and kitchen rag at home? No worries, there’s Stella’s dirty diaper for you.” I glared at him. What was this i***t talking about? Was he really trying to joke at a time like this? To my surprise, instead of telling him off, Millie hugged him, declaring that he was a ‘genius’. Oh God! I was actually starting to lose my head now! “Come on, we got our weapons,” Millie ushered, handing over Stella to Dylan and taking out her dirty diaper. I scrunched my nose, when she brought it in front of my face, trying to tear it in two. This girl had officially gone nuts! She actually sniffed it slightly, after tearing it up and muttered, “It’s not as good as the kitchen rag but it will do.” Then, she offered one torn up part of the diaper to me. I backed away from that. “Come on, Kris, we don’t have time. Just follow my steps,” she instructed. I turned to look at the men, and sure enough they were gaining on Blake and Hailey. Without thinking much of it now, I took the diaper from her hand and rushed towards the rink with her. Millie signaled me with her eyes to do as she did. So, I did. And, this is what we did. We went towards the masked men from behind and stuffed their faces with the dirty diaper. As soon as this happened, I wanted to gag. And to think that it was not even me, this happened to. I watched in disgust and surprise as the men actually fell to the floor. What the hell? It worked! It actually worked! It was gross, yes, but it did help us! “I told you! I always use only the best weapons,” Millie beamed at me. I squealed and hugged her in happiness and excitement. “It looks like we are done here. Let’s get out before they get back up again!” I heard Cameron’s voice behind me. When I looked around, I saw all of the men, lying on the floor and groaning in pain. So, all of us actually stood a chance against Isaac and his men. At that moment, I wanted to do a lot of things like, thank everyone or make sure that everyone was okay. But, before I could even open my mouth, Alex grabbed my hand, pulling me towards the exit. Everyone else followed after us. When we were outside in the parking lot, that’s when Alex released my hand and that’s when something clicked in my brain. This was not happening again! I couldn’t go back with them. I looked around at everyone, they were all getting ready to get into the cars, completely oblivious to the fact that they were lugging along a deadly girl with them: me. It may seem that I was ungrateful or shady or knocked up in the head but there was only one thing left for me to do. The thing I always did: run. And, I did. I ran away, when no one was looking, when they least expected it…
