Pulling my phone out of my pocket, I called Kyle. After the second ring, he answered, "Serena, it's early. Is everything okay?" He says in a sleepy voice. Not really knowing how to tell him what happened to my father, I said "Kyle, I need you to pick me up now, and hurry, I do not have time to explain. I promise to tell you when you get here, and we also have to leave Kyle. Please hurry, I'm freaking out." He responds quickly; "Okay, calm down, I am on my way. We can figure out what to do next when I get there, okay, just get somewhere safe." With a shaky voice I say. "O-okay please hurry Kyle." "I am on my way, I'll be there shortly." He says worriedly. I made my way to the road and took shelter by a tree until he got there.
Within a few minutes, Kyles G Wagon pulls up and I jump in. Kyle wasted no time before he sped off. I am not sure how to put in words what I just experienced. All I could do was put my head down and cry silently. Kyle reached over and grabbed my hand to offer me comfort. When the car came to a stop, I looked up to see that we were at his house. "What are we doing here, we can't stay here," I said while looking at Kyle. "I know babe I'm going to grab my bags, and then we can leave." He says while hoping out of the car. A few minutes later, he jumped back into the car, throwing his bags in the back seat. "Did your parents see you?" I asked, "No, they left for a meeting an hour ago," he replied, pulling out of his driveway. I reached for my pocket to pull out the letter my father gave me and explained to him "We must go to this place; my father gave this to me and said to go here and never come back. This place is supposed to keep me safe." Kyle gave me a confused look and said, "Why did your father tell you to leave? And why this place? Also, how do you know you can trust him? This is your father, Serena." Kyle did make good points. This could be a trap for all we know. I look at Kyle and say, "Kyle, he shifted from a wolf to a human." Kyle looked at me for a good 2 seconds before exploding with laughter, "What are you talking about, do you know how crazy that sounds." He says. "I know that sounds crazy hell maybe I am going crazy, but I swear on my mother's grave that he shifted to a damn wolf." I try to tell him. Beginning to feel frustrated. He paused for a second before responding "okay please explain everything that happened, so I can understand." I shook my head; "I woke up to this loud banging coming from downstairs. So I went to go check to see what was going on. When I got downstairs, I saw this huge wolf 10 times bigger than normal size. I was so scared I didn't know what to do, but I just stood there and closed my eyes thinking that I must be dreaming, then I heard its bones start cracking, and it was howling in pain. Then everything got quiet, so I opened my eyes to see my father standing in front of me with tears rolling down his face." I said, trying to explain to him. Kyle starts shaking his head and sighs "It's not that I don't believe you, Serena, but come on a wolf? We are in Russia. I've never even seen a wolf around here before!" He shouts. "Look, I know it sounds crazy, but you have to trust me. Have I ever lied to you?" I pointed out. "Uh...no." He says quietly. "Okay, so please trust me I'm not lying Kyle." I told him desperately. Needing him to believe him, he sighed; "Okay, OK, I believe you, let me see the note again please?" He asked. "Here you go." I said, handing him the note. "Serena, this address is in f*****g Hamnøy, Norway... Well, it's only a 2-day drive from here. My only question is why here?" He asked. "I don't know. But it has answers about my mom. My father said they would give me all the answers to my questions and tell me everything." I said he looked at me and replied, "Okay then if this is what you want." I nodded. "Oh, I didn't even have time to pack my bag-" I started. But Kyle cuts me off by pointing to the back seat. "I know, I didn't see your bags when I picked you up, so I packed you a few things" He finishes smiling. The long drive gave me time to think. What if it is a trap? There is just so much happening so fast. Am I even making the right decision? I asked myself what happened to my loving dad I once knew when I was young and maybe there is a reason. Anger grew inside of me knowing that someone or something out there caused my once loving, caring father to change into an alcoholic-abusing temperamental man. Remembering the tears in his eyes and feeling as if everything, he said he meant it felt sincere and true. The look in his eyes was like he was truly sorry and loved and cared for me. That's the first time I remember my father looking at me like that in a long time. Thinking about my mom missing her smile and wondering if she wouldn't die if we were a family like we once were. I didn't even realize I was crying until Kyle grabbed my hand. "Are you okay babe?" He asked. More tears started rolling down my face. "Kyle, I believe him. I know you don't understand why I do, and I don't know how else to explain it, but I know the man that shifted from a wolf... That man was the man I remembered when I was just a little girl."
I wiped my tears away as I started again; "The man I wished would come back to me every single day. The man I wanted to be there for me when I lost my momma. I trust that man and if he tells me that this place is safe." I paused, holding up the note my father had given me; "Then I believe him." Kyle looks at me with a serious expression on his face "I know you have been through a lot, Serena, and I'm sorry. I trust you more than anyone in my life." Kyle tells me, giving my hand a small reassuring squeeze. I smiled at him and thanked god I have him as a best friend. " Are you ready for this road trip babe!" He shouted "Hell yes!" I said. Feeling my spirits lift "Babe, we need Tay Tay." Kyle says in a whinny voice. I laughed as I hooked my phone up to the radio and started our Taylor Swift playlist. Jamming out with the windows down, feeling the cool morning air of September wrapped around me like a chilled blanket. The cold didn't bother me. It actually felt calming in a way. After a while on the road, the sun started to go down and the moon came out. Kyle suggested we stop to rest, but I wanted to keep going. The faster we got there, the better. So he pulled over at a gas station and grabbed some gas and snacks. "Kyle, you've been driving all day here, let me drive" I said. "Thanks babe" he replied, yawning and climbing into the passenger seat. I jumped in the car and we continued our road trip. The moon was bright and beautiful, lighting up the night sky. After an hour, Kyle crashed out in the passenger seat softly snoring.
