CHAPTER 3: THE BLOOD VELVET CONTRACT

1288 Words
The rain outside the tinted glass of the executive limousine lashed against the windows like a torrent of broken needles, blurring the neon lights of the city into long, crimson smears. Inside, the heavy, quiet hum of the engine was completely swallowed by a suffocating, charged silence that made the air feel as thick as velvet. I sat pressed firmly against the cold leather seat, every single muscle in my body coiled tight like a spring under extreme tension. The white-hot agony in my swollen left ankle was throbbing relentlessly, a sharp, rhythmic pulse that echoed the violent beating of my heart. I had fought through knife wounds and shattered bones in the shadows, but maintaining a calm, unbothered expression while sitting inches away from the most powerful man in the city was a different kind of torture entirely. Across from me sat Alexander Vance. He had discarded his tailored suit jacket onto the plush leather beside him, leaving him in a crisp white shirt with the top buttons undone and the sleeves rolled up to his forearms. It revealed structured muscle, pale skin, and dark, aristocratic veins tracing down to his long, broad hands. He didn't look like a corporate CEO negotiating a contract anymore. In the dim, amber interior lights of the vehicle, he looked like a dangerous predator who had successfully cornered his prey in a gilded cage. "Put your foot up," Alexander commanded, his low, gravelly baritone cutting through the quiet like a sharp blade. It was not a polite request; it was an absolute order. "I am perfectly capable of handling a minor injury, Mr. Vance," I replied immediately, forcing my voice into an icy wall of unyielding professionalism despite the cold sweat prickling my back. Before I could draw another breath to reinforce my refusal, Alexander leaned forward. His long arm shot out across the small space, his heavy, warm hand wrapping around my calf with an iron grip that brooked no resistance whatsoever. With effortless, terrifying strength, he lifted my leg, resting my injured ankle directly over his clad thigh. My pulse spiked into pure chaos. The sheer physical proximity was overwhelming—the rich scent of his cedarwood cologne, expensive leather, and clean rain instantly filling the enclosed space. "You're a terrible liar, Eliana," Alexander murmured, his dark, impenetrable eyes fixing onto mine as his large fingers slowly reached for the delicate strap of my high heel. Unbuckling the shoe with practiced, deliberate ease, he slid it off my foot, letting it drop to the carpeted floorboards below. My breath hitched sharply in my throat as his long, cool fingers lightly brushed against the bare skin of my arch, moving up with agonizing slowness to the beige compression bandage wrapped around my joint. "Stay still," he ordered softly, his voice dropping into a dangerously quiet whisper that sent a violent, electric shiver cascading straight down my spine. He began unrolling the tight bandage, his broad thumb pressing with precise, firm pressure directly against the swollen bone to test the damage. A sharp gasp escaped my parted lips despite my iron control, and my fingers dug deep into the expensive leather seat beside me as a wave of heat washed over my skin. Alexander didn't pull away. Instead, he leaned even closer, his broad chest almost brushing against my knee. His dark eyes flicked up from my bare skin to my face, meticulously scanning my parted lips, my flushed cheeks, and the raw, dangerous vulnerability I was trying desperately to hide behind my corporate mask. "Dante Russell isn't a man who forgets a face, Eliana," Alexander said, his thumbs beginning to massage the strained tendons around my ankle with an agonizingly slow, rhythmic touch that made my skin burn from the inside out. "He smelled danger on you today in my office. He looked at you like a man who had just found a missing piece of a very bloody, very dark puzzle." "He doesn't know anything," I rasped out, my chest heaving as I struggled to keep my voice steady under the intoxicating weight of his touch. "He was merely attempting to intimidate your staff." "He was hunting," Alexander corrected coldly, his eyes darkening. He reached into his leather inner pocket, pulling out a sleek, heavy black folder, and tossed it onto the seat between us. "Which is precisely why you are going to sign this." I forced my eyes away from his hands and looked down at the gold-embossed lettering on the heavy parchment. OFFICIAL CLASSIFIED ENGAGEMENT & PROTECTION AGREEMENT. My eyes widened slightly in silent shock. "What is this?" "A classified marriage contract," Alexander purred, leaning in until his shadow completely engulfed me. His hand finally left my ankle, sliding slowly up the curve of my leg to rest on the leather headrest behind my head, trapping me completely between the door and his massive, imposing frame. The intense heat radiating off his body was suffocating. "As my officially declared fiancée, you will be shielded under the full military, financial, and legal jurisdiction of the Vance Empire. Dante cannot touch you, interrogate you, or claim you without declaring an all-out, bloody war against my family name." "And my public identity?" I challenged, my heart hammering like a wild bird against my ribs. "I will not have my face plastered across tabloid pages and televised broadcasts for the entire underworld—and the syndicate—to track." A faint, dark smirk touched the corner of Alexander’s sharp lips. He reached out, his index finger slowly tracing the sharp, trembling contour of my jawline, leaving a trail of pure fire on my skin. "Your public profile will be strictly classified and encrypted," he whispered, his thumb resting against the sensitive corner of my lower lip, causing a sudden jolt of electricity to shoot through my blood. "To the press and the mafia world, you will remain my elusive, protected shadow. No public photos. No unmonitored appearances. You keep your freedom, your theatrical makeup disguises, and your private life... but on paper, to the rest of the world, you belong to me." My mind raced at lightning speed through the tactical possibilities. A classified marriage. It gave me the ultimate shield against Dante's terrifying obsession, kept my secret assassin identity and my VTuber streams completely invisible under his corporate umbrella, and most importantly, it granted me high-level clearance to enter the Vance family’s private, heavily guarded estates—where his uncle, my ultimate target, resided. It was a deal signed in the dark, but it was the exact key I needed to complete my blood debt and wipe out my past. "And what do you get out of this, Alexander?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper, leaning subtly into the danger of his space. Alexander lowered his head until his lips were mere inches from my ear, his warm, steady breath fanning against my skin, sending goosebumps rippling across my body. "I get absolute control over my domain," he growled softly into my neck, his hand sliding down my arm to clasp mine, forcing a heavy gold fountain pen into my trembling fingers. "And I get to keep my sharp little secretary exactly where I can see her." He guided my hand down to the signature line at the bottom of the heavy parchment. With my breath held tight in my chest and my pulse raging like an absolute wildfire, I pressed the tip of the pen to the paper and signed my name into the dark velvet night.
