Darkness didn’t fall this time, It pressed in heavier than ever.
The shattered lights left only fragments of glowfaint, dying sparks from the ceiling, casting broken shadows across the café.
Jamie staggered back, breath uneven, hand still trembling from the shattered cup.
Something inside them was still moving.
Still… awake.
The knocking beneath the floor grew louder.
Not random.
Rhythmic and a sense of it been intentional.
Knock.
Knock.
Knock.
Lara grabbed a knife from under the counter.
“Okay nope. That is not normal even for us.” she finally realized.
Alex didn’t respond.
Their eyes were locked on Jamie.
Watching and calculating every move.
“What did you see?” Alex asked.
Jamie swallowed, making things relieved.
Their voice came out thinner than they expected.
“…Blood.”
The word hung heavy.
“Not spilled,” Jamie continued slowly.
“Placed.”
The twins flinched sending Lia’s grip on Leo tightened.
“Stop,” she whispered.
But Jamie couldn’t.
“Symbols,” Jamie said, voice distant now.
“Carved into the floor. People on their knees. Crying. Begging.”
Leo shook his head rapidly.
“No no no ”
“They were calling something,” Jamie whispered.
“And it answered.”
The knocking beneath the floor.
Matched Jamie’s heartbeat now.
Knock.
Knock.
Knock.
Lara looked at Alex.
“Tell me this isn’t what I think it is.”
Alex didn’t answer, making the entire situation worse than it is.
Because it was.
The twins stepped forward.
Slow and unsteady.
“You weren’t supposed to see that,” Lia said.
Jamie looked at them.
“You were there.”
Silence broke in once more.
Leo’s voice cracked
“We’re still there.”
The air shifted making a senxe of the café… listening to every words.
Lara frowned.
“…What does that even mean?”
The twins turned toward the center of the room.
The exact spot where they had been standing since they arrived.
“Here,” Lia said softly.
Leo nodded.
“This is where it happened.”
The knocking grew louder.
Directly beneath their feet.
Alex moved fast.
“Everyone back”
It was already too late for anyone else to take a move.
The floor cracked.
A thin line split across the wood.
Darkness seeped through it.
Not shadow.
Something deeper.
The twins didn’t move.
“They told us it would be quick,” Lia said.
Her voice wasn’t a child’s anymore.
It was layered.
Echoing.
“They said we were chosen,” Leo added.
Jamie’s breath caught.
The crack widened once more .
“Chosen for what?” Lara demanded.
The twins looked at her together at once.
“To open the door.”
The café trembled.
The crack split wider revealing something beneath.
Not dirt.
Not foundation.
A symbol.
Carved deep.
Ancient.
Still pulsing faintly
As if it had never stopped.
Jamie staggered forward slightly.
Drawn to what it's in front of her.
Alex grabbed their arm harder than he thought.
“Don’t.” he said as a warning.
Jamie didn’t look away.
“I’ve seen this before.” she looked insane while letting out those words.
Alex’s grip tightened.
“That’s not possible.”
Jamie shook their head.
“It is.”
The symbol pulsed once.
And suddenly,
The café shifted again.
Not a vision this time.
Not memory.
Reality hit them all hard this time.
The walls darkened thicker than the last ones .
Paint peeling back into something older.
Something stained.
The tables
Gone.
Replaced.
With figures.
Dozens of them.
Kneeling.
Frozen.
Mid-prayer.
Mid-scream.
Lara staggered back.
“…No way.”
Alex didn’t move.
But their breathing changed.
Because they remembered this version.
The real one.
The twins stepped forward.
Into the center.
Into the past.
“They told us not to look up,” Lia said.
“But we did anyway,” Leo added.
The kneeling figures began to whisper.
Low.
Unintelligible.
The symbol beneath them burned brighter making it as the only source of light in The entire room.
Jamie stepped forward again.
This time
Alex couldn’t stop them.
“You didn’t open it,” Jamie said softly.
Looking at the twins.
They shook their heads.
Tears falling now uncontrollably .
“No,” Lia whispered.
“It opened us,” Leo said.
The whispering stopped.
All at once.
Silence dropped.
Heavy and crushing the entire room once more .
Then
Every kneeling figure slowly lifted their head.
At the same time.
Eyes empty.
Mouths open.
And they all spoke.
In one voice.
“IT REMEMBERS YOU.”
Jamie froze, confusion covered everyones mind as the words sinked in.
The symbol flared
Blinding.
And something moved beneath it.
Not knocking anymore.
Pushing.
Trying to break through.
Alex pulled Jamie back with every strength left.
“NOW!”
The vision shattered.
The café snapped back.
Tables. Walls. Lights still broken.
But the crack in the floor was the only thing that remained.
Real than ever, the feeling of what happened can be felt.
The symbol still glowing faintly beneath it.
The twins collapsed.
Lara rushed forward, catching them.
“Hey HEY stay with me ”
Their eyes fluttered.
Fading.
“We tried to close it…” Lia whispered weakly.
“But it needs a key,” Leo added.
Jamie stepped closer.
Heart pounding.
“…What key?”
The twins looked at them.
One last time.
And whispered
“You.”
The lights flickered again.
And from the crack
Something whispered back.
Not loud.
Not clear.
But it could be heard close to under thier feets.
“...finally…”
Alex turned.
Blade already in hand again.
But this time
There was nothing to strike.
Because whatever was down there
Was no longer just beneath the café.
It was waking up.
