The next day Adaline and lil jimmy now known as James sat down to talk. about his education. although he said that he would like to go back to school, she told him that she didn't think that it was a good idea. he would be an easy target at the local high school. They argued about this briefly, but she told him that she wouldn't budge on her decision. so reluctantly he agreed to start a home schooling curriculum.
James had always been a smart kid who soaked up information like a sponge. he actually enjoyed his studies and got very good grades. He had already skipped a grade and was on track to graduate almost two full years early.
He studied long and hard. his father had always told him that he wouldn't get anywhere without an education. and since he always wanted to please his father he strived to get good grades. Every year he was at the top of his class. schoolwork always seemed to come easy to him, and he learned quickly that good grades meant a pretty penny when it came to report card times.
James and Adaline fell into a routine with her working and him delving into his schoolwork deeply. But it wasn't long before Adaline started to notice that James was starting to drift away. it was almost as if his mind was preoccupied in his thoughts. he didn't talk much and he spent a lot of time in his room away from her. even though she was curious to what was going on with him, she was careful not to invade his privacy.
James thought about his family often. his heart still felt heavy laden with pain and anguish. he missed his family terribly and he could often be heard crying himself to sleep.
He watched the news religiously to see if there were any updates on his family's murders. and so far there had only been one lead, a partial palm print found on the side of the security panel at the back of the house. with that the police had come up with a name.
