798 Words
Alicia, Lucas, and the others barely had time to catch their breath after the "Purifiers" left. And then, these man in black came at them like a pack of ravenous wolves. Lillian's face turned as white as a sheet. She instinctively ducked behind Alicia, muttering, "Where the heck did these guys come from?" Isabella quickly stepped in front of Lucas, her eyes fixed on the man in black, and shouted, "Who are you? What do you want?" But the man in black remained silent, acting like well - oiled machines as they charged straight at them. Lucas, gritting his teeth against the pain of his wound, said, "Never mind who they are. Just fight!" With that, he forced himself forward and threw a punch at one of the man in black. Alicia was frantic. Her eyes darted around, looking for a weapon. Spotting an iron rod on the ground, she quickly picked it up and swung it at a man in black. Rosalind, huddled in the corner, held her camera tightly. Her palms were so sweaty that the camera almost slipped. She was torn. "Should I go up and help? What if I get hurt? But everyone else is fighting..." By now, the man in black were engaged with Lucas and Isabella. These guys were no pushovers. Lucas, already injured, was starting to struggle. One of the man in black saw an opening and kicked Lucas right in his wounded area. Lucas let out a muffled groan and nearly fell. "Brother!" Isabella cried out. Filled with anger, she lunged at the man in black, throwing punches left and right. But there were too many of them. Isabella soon found herself grabbed by the arm by one of the man in black, unable to move. Alicia, seeing this, rushed over with the iron rod and brought it down hard on the head of the man in black holding Isabella. The man in black yelped in pain and released Isabella. Isabella shot Alicia a grateful look and shouted,"Let's stick together!" The two stood back - to - back, eyeing the man in black warily. Just when the situation seemed hopeless, Lillian suddenly yelled, "Look over there!" Everyone turned to see a car speeding into the courtyard and coming to a halt. Out stepped none other than Edward Thompson, Alicia's business rival. Edward had a smug grin on his face. He sauntered forward and drawled, "Alicia, I knew you'd get yourself into a mess. But it's turned out to be a golden opportunity for me." Alicia was so angry that she could almost spit. "Edward, it's you again! What's your connection with these man in black?" Edward shrugged nonchalantly. "Connection? I hired them. They're here to take care of you once and for all." Lucas glared at Edward. "You despicable coward, always hiding in the shadows, plotting!" Edward sneered. "Well, it's survival of the fittest. And right now, you're all going down." With a wave of his hand, he signaled the man in black to attack again. Alicia and the others fought with all their might, but the man in black's assault was relentless. They were slowly being pushed to the brink. Suddenly, Alicia noticed Edward whispering something to one of the man in black. A thought flashed through her mind. Were there cracks in their alliance? Just then, Rosalind, who had been hiding in the corner, suddenly burst out. She held her camera high and shouted, "Stop! I've recorded everything. If you hurt us, these pictures will be all over the place!" The man in black hesitated for a moment, a flicker of doubt in their eyes. Edward's face darkened. "Don't listen to her. Keep going!" But the man in black seemed hesitant, and their attacks became less fierce. Alicia took the chance and used the iron rod to knock down one of the man in black. Lucas and Isabella also regained their momentum, and for a moment, the situation stabilized. Then, out of the blue, a police car came screeching into the courtyard, its siren blaring. Everyone froze. Nobody knew if the cops were friend or foe. The police got out, led by a stern - looking middle - aged officer. He surveyed the chaotic scene and barked, "Stop this right now! What's going on here?" Edward, quick as a fox, immediately changed his tune. Pointing at Alicia and the others, he said, "Officer, these are dangerous people. They were trying to harm me and my men." Alicia was both shocked and enraged. "You're lying through your teeth! You're the one who hired these thugs to attack us." The officer frowned, looking from Alicia to Edward. "Quiet! You're all coming with me to the station to sort this out." Alicia and the others were led away by the police, filled with worry.
