I take a moment to clear my throat before taking a deep breath. I give the strings the practice signal and we play together in perfect harmony. My fingers play the intro of my first piece. My eyes close just as the words leave my lips. “I dreamed a dream in time gone by...”
Gasps and whispers begin. “Is she a Broadway singer?” “Oh, my...” “Where did they find this girl?”
The string quartet plays absolutely perfectly. The soft melody of the piano vibrates throughout the ballroom. It is almost ethereal as I sing the long notes.
