Alexander didn’t walk in immediately. The car engine had gone quiet minutes ago, but he remained seated, his gaze fixed on the restaurant just across the street. The soft glow of lights spilled through the glass windows, warm and inviting, a sharp contrast to the tension coiled tightly in his chest. He had found her. That should have been enough. But it wasn’t. Because now that he was here. Now that the distance between them had narrowed to something physical. He realized something he hadn’t considered before. He didn’t know what he was walking into. His fingers tightened slightly against the steering wheel as his eyes scanned the interior through the glass. And then. He saw her. Amelia. Seated by the window. Calm. Relaxed. Smiling. The sight hit harder than he expected.
