CHAPTER 10 Leeanne is in a great mood on Monday. The day after the party, she had no hangover like some of us, fuelled by lack of sleep. She chatters on happily and pushes a small cardboard box on my desk. “We were so sorry not to meet Jeff. You should at least bring those home to him.” I open the box. There’s a scone and two slices of cake, one lemon, the other chocolate. “He’s becoming a bit of an enigma. Everybody’s talking about him. I swear people are googling any famous Jeffs just to figure out who he is. Maybe he goes by Jeffrey or Geoffrey spelt the other way or he uses a stage name…” She carries on. I stare at the contents of the box. Jeff doesn’t like scones, so I’ll eat that one. Jeff is not home, and he won’t eat any of it. I’ll eat the cake too. He doesn’t even have a swe
