Chapter 3: An Unexpected Interview

Three days later, Lin Youran received a call from an unfamiliar number.
"May I speak with Miss Lin Youran? This is Human Resources at Ross Group. The application you submitted for the Executive Assistant position has passed the initial screening. Please come to our headquarters for an interview today at 3 PM."
She was stunned. Ross Group? That top-tier Manhattan real estate empire? When had she ever submitted an application there?
"Excuse me... I think there's a mistake. I didn't..."
"Your resume was recommended by an internal employee. We're not at liberty to disclose specifics," the voice on the other end interrupted. "May I ask if you can come?"
Lin Youran was silent for two seconds. An executive assistant position at Ross Group would pay three times what she made delivering food, plus comprehensive insurance and training opportunities.
"I can come."
She rummaged through her wardrobe and found a decent white blouse and black trousers—bought three years ago when she first arrived in America, now a little tight. She tied her hair into a low ponytail with a simple black elastic, applied light makeup, and stepped out in a pair of worn black high heels.
Ross Group's headquarters were in midtown Manhattan, a fully glass-curtain-walled skyscraper with various luxury cars parked out front. Lin Youran stood at the base of the building, took a deep breath, and pushed open the heavy glass door.
The receptionist took her up to the 38th floor and knocked on a conference room door.
"Come in."
That voice... sounded a bit familiar.
As the door opened, Lin Youran saw the man sitting at the head of the table.
Alexander Ross. Now impeccably dressed in a suit, his hair neatly combed back, revealing a handsome face that was hard to look away from. He held her resume in his hand, and those blue eyes held a playful smile.
"Fancy meeting you again, delivery girl."
