CHAPTER 12: THE MORNING AFTER

1143 Words

The floor plans were already spread across the table when I came out. Mason and Owen were leaning over them together, voices low, pointing at something near the corner of the page. Harper was at the small stove making coffee with the kind of focus that meant she was thinking about seventeen other things simultaneously. The cabin smelled like pine and morning and something warm that I didn't have a name for yet. Mason looked up when I walked in. Just for a second, just long enough. Then back down at the plans. My face did something I was very glad nobody was looking at. "Coffee." Harper held a mug out without turning around. "Thank you." "You slept." "I did." "Good." A sideways glance brief and knowing. "You needed it." "Harper." "I'm not saying anything." "You're about to."
